There really is no substitute for Standard Auto Wreckers. The only other option would be to hit the road and head out of the city, likely hours of driving involved. Even though they are in the city, close to the Toronto zoo, they are a full-fledged wrecker. The lot is well organized and quite clean considering. Of course you need to wear shoes, not sandals, but walking around I did not get the sense that it was any more dangerous than walking around downtown Toronto. Checking in, they want your info, I guess to keep track in case you go missing? After that, the let you freely walk around in the yard which is organized into domestic and import sections. I'm not sure if there are sub-sections, but I did see some variety within the import section. The wrecks are labeled on the body with paint as to what model and year they are, and each wreck is parked with room around it to work, and as well they are standing on 3 wheel rims, one laid flat, and one on edge which raises the wreck high enough to get underneath. Great idea! I was looking for a car antenna to use for my custom project and found a couple that were perfect for my ideas. They charged me $9 for the two items so quite reasonable. Even if I could find something like this on Amazon I know they would be charging $30 or $40 for one of them new. The bonus is that one of Canada's best and largest National Urban Wilderness Parks is right beside the yard. Just drive north to Steeles and turn right and at the bottom of the hill turn right again on Reesor Road and a quick left into the parking lot where you can see a large Canadian flag on a flagpole. Ordered a used transmission paid with tax and core fees almost 1000$.Transmission they sent was no good,for that I had to pay mechanic 400$.Standard auto wreckers said that's my problem.new transmission sent put in truck less than 100km third gear drive doesn't work.put in report with customer care,no response for five days.Tried to sort out with Chris not helpful told me my mechanic was no good(Reliance auto mechanics in Brampton one accredited shop with great reputation)Then told me to bring transmission somewhere else for diagnosing issue more money out of my product,and him saying he still might not be able to help. Highly Wouldn't Recommend. This place scammed me. I buy a 2015 range rover engine for almost 8000$. Just 2 months and the engine is not working at all. I did contact them and talk to the manager and supervisor and they are telling me the warranty only covers for 60 days and they can't help me. When I buy engine the sale person promised me this will cover for 90 days and now they are changing their words. Some of the things that are shit pieces are extremely Overpriced! And it's f**ed up staff thinks you're cheap by refusing to buy it! Some stuff is priced really well! The main issue I had was one female there that works at the cashier's desk that has the most bitter salty attitude I've seen! She needs to get off her BS high horse! couple times I've warred her about her BS attitude already. Their website is a joke! And their always driving those huge dump trucks 24/7 which make shit load of annoying noises! This week they caught on fire! And they don't make it clear that their closed! I have saved a lot of money by pulling my own parts at Standard Auto Wreckers. For instance, GM dealer quoted me over $200 for a driver side mirror (part only) and $400 for the trunk motor (part and labour). I paid $30 for the mirror and $14 for the trunk motor. It took just a few bolts and a small amount of time. Since then I have stockpiled a bunch of parts just in case. Prices have been more than fair. Remember it is a salvage yard. They buy scrapped cars when available and the car part you want may be picked by other customers, but if the part is on the car you can learn how to remove it. Regarding $60 free parts day. Rules are clearly listed BEFORE you pay. Yesterday I got front headlight assemblies, 2 throttle bodies and another trunk actuator. 5 items for a total of $60 or $12 for each item. Absolute IDIOTS. Like another person said, they will promise you the world but they will NOT deliver. I paid around $150 for a part for my car last Wednesday July 20th, its now been a week and FINALLY they found where my part was. I have been calling everyday since I ordered the part trying to get this sorted out but they had zero answers for me, everytime they would just say oh wow I will look into why it is not here and give you a call back, I NEVER received a call between those 7 days. FINALLY the part came in on Wednesday July 27th, only to drive all the way down there and its the WRONG PART.......needless to say I got my money back, and will never ever be dealing with these people again. read more

I phoned in requiring about a single part. The single part literally is part of a bigger system (door). I did not need the door, just a particular part. I was rudely spoken to and hung up on by Kyle. The manager took my call, then irritated me to the point of fustration. Whomever owns this business must change the business attitude around. I was willing to have a licensed mechanic come with me just to switch a door panel. (Nothing is wrong with the part I have, except for the colour) I will research who owns this business, and will not provide business to any of your affiliate companies again. These guys get no stars. They sold me a Subaru turbo engine that they advertised as grade A and in good working condition with less that 120,000km on it. From the very beginning after installation the engine has been burning 1 liter of oil for every 1000km that I drive. There are no external oil leaks on the engine as noted by the Subaru dealership. Some guy named Chris at the company has offered to refund me for the engine, but he is negating responsibility for the $1400 in installation labour that his company is responsible for due to selling a defective engine falsely advertised as being grade A and in good working condition. It looks like this company doesn't care if they sell you garbage with fraudulent claims of good condition, nor do they mind you losing large amounts of money due to their false claims. There are many other scrap yards run by people with integrity who can be trusted. Don't put your faith in this shady American company. They have no compunction. Carefully read every review by the others who have detailed their problems with this company. Some person claiming to be the owner responds with some disingenuous apology such as "I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience" or "It's unfortunate.." but it's an empty response in an attempt to create a facade of responsibility that costs them nothing as they continue to rip off customers, even after all of these bad reviews. I will be warning the thousands in the Subaru clubs and those that I go to rallies with to NEVER go to any of this company's location anywhere in the continent. Through my testimonial and the testimonials of other victims of this company we will save other good people from suffering the same fate. I have purchased a part online and picked it up and that was an OK experience. But this "FREE PARTS" Saturdays is a TOTAL SCAM. Not only do you have to pay $50 to enter the yard..AN ENTRANCE FEE.. I use the term yard mighty loosely... really a disaster zone...and see if they even have the vehicle you are looking for plus then you need to remove the part yourself... providing you can even get to the part if the car is 7 feet in the air. So what happens if you don't find your vehicle or part... THEY KEEP YOUR $50 and give you a store credit... They do not inventory their vehicles... how hard can this be really?? !! I am not even sure that you can use this store credit to come back another Saturday to troll around again. If you want to waste a perfectly nice Saturday morning trolling around a crap hole and cough up $50 for it then this is the place for you. What some people do is come on the Friday.... pay NOTHING to get in... Remove the part they need and then hide it somewhere... easy enough... then come back on Saturday and pick it up.. IF and ONLY IF you are savvy is the 'FREE PARTS" day a bargain... It is completely buyer beware for these scams. I would guestimate that at least 200 people cough up their $50 to buy a part ... so they are clearing 10 grand in ENTRANCE FEES... BUYER BEWARE IS ALL I CAN SUGGEST... read more
