My daughter received braces and prior to…read moreher first appointment, the procedure was processed through my insurance company and I was given a remaining balance, which I paid in full prior to her first appointment. Last November of 2023, I switched jobs and this resulted in a change to my insurance provider. I did not realize that this would be an issue, assuming the procedure had already been paid in full. Apparently, my previous insurance provider was making monthly payments to the dentist. I was not aware that this was a normal part of the insurance process. In August of 2024, I was contacted by Smile with Style to inform me that they had not received the remaining payments from my insurance provider. This was a full 8 months since their last payment. My daughter was scheduled for two more follow-up appointments before the removal of her braces. The office told me that they needed to be paid in full before her last appointment. I asked why they had not contacted me when the payments stopped and their answer was "well, there is a lag in the process." I asked if they were receiving monthly payments and the payments stopped how long would it take to absorb this so called "lag." Once again, I received a response that was not adequate and not based in factual data. I told them had they informed me even 6 months prior, I could have arranged a payment plan that did not require me to pay over $800 in two months. As I became more frustrated with their responses, they stated the following "We will not remove the braces while their is an outstanding balance and if you cannot pay by your daughter's last appointment, we will just have to leave the braces on her teeth." They would penalize a child for a mistake in which they were at least partially if not fully responsible. I do not recommend giving this business any of your hard earned money. I'm sure there are numerous ethically responsible orthodontist in the area other than this reprehensible company.
