Another first to review on the Isle of Wight. I came here for Sunday lunch with my Aunt and her friends. I am giving this spot an extra star for the views--sweeping, and complete with a rainbow after the showers and storms that had come through earlier. I believe this spot recently was refreshed and it shows, as the interior was quite warm and not at all drafty. Each of us ordered a different meal and in fact had difficulty narrowing down the options as there was both a menu and blackboard of specials on the back wall from which to choose. I went with the fish cakes which were substantial and presented with greens. The others opted to have starters, but I did not, seeing as how this was my first time at the restaurant and I did not know what to expect in terms of the portions. I will say that the Carlsberg beers ordered by one of my dining companions were HUGE and this was the first time that I've ever seen black pudding (apparently a delicacy) served with Brie as an accompaniment. The ingredients were fresh and the presentation was excellent, though it was odd to see a galvanized steel bucket filled with cutlery and condiments placed at the table. The service was a bit indifferent, though I suppose that is to be expected as the Sunday lunch crowd was picking up by the time we had put in our orders. read more
