Built in 1925-26, this stadium has become one of the symbols of Milan. Its real name is Stadio "Giuseppe Meazza" (in honor to soccer player Giuseppe Meazza) but it's known worldwide as Stadio "San Siro", which is the name of the neighborhood where it's located. Said to be the largest stadium in Italy and one of the largest in Europe, it's home of two soccer teams currently in Serie A: Milan and Inter. It is reachable via public transportation but keep in mind that when either of these teams play at home, the stadium is always full, and consequently both buses and metro are packed as well. We went to see an Inter game a couple of months ago, and let me tell you: a sardine in a can has more room than what I had in the metro! Same story if you want to get a drink or a snack at half time: 100 years ago they couldn't foresee that those corridors would be too small for all those people. However, the atmosphere inside the stadium is amazing; it's so special that is difficult to explain: you just have to experience it, even if you are not a fan. I only regret not having been able to go to the stadium way before the game (or on another day): I would have loved to make a tour inside, above all because there have been talks for the last few years about demolishing this stadium, and build a new one in another place. read more

We went to the stadium for Bruno Mars' European tour since most of his shows are held in stadiums. From the parking lot, there's a bit of a walk just to reach the entrance. Unfortunately, accessibility was one of the biggest disappointments. Someone in our group had mobility issues, and there didn't seem to be an elevator to help people get to the upper levels. Climbing all those stairs was exhausting and extremely difficult. Another issue was the restroom setup. Bathrooms were only located on certain sides of the stadium, so the lines were very long. Some were shared, while others were separate for men and women. I also didn't notice any signs directing people to accessible restrooms. What really stood out was that some entrances were blocked, forcing guests with mobility issues to walk all the way around the stadium. It honestly felt like accessibility wasn't a priority. The concession setup was confusing. You had to pay first, get a receipt, and then take that receipt to different stations for drinks, popcorn, or other food. With so many people carrying drinks, receipts were getting wet and damaged. It just wasn't an efficient system. On the positive side, there were lots of food trucks outside with a good variety of options, and I thought that was a nice touch. I also noticed many people sitting outside the stadium enjoying the music for free, which created a fun atmosphere. Overall, while the concert itself was amazing, this was probably my least favorite stadium experience because of the accessibility challenges, restroom layout, and concession system. read more

One of the world's most iconic stadiums, San Siro is shared by AC Milan and Inter Milan, fierce city rivals share the same stadium, this is a concept I've always found rather amusing, as you would never see a similar concept happen in the UK (in the modern era), just imagine Manchester City and Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton, or Arsenal and Tottenham sharing a stadium! The shop inside the stadium is divided into two sides, one having all the latest gear from AC Milan, and the other side having the gear from Inter Milan, they've divided this area reasonably well, and I like the cardboard cutouts of certain players, including Edin Dzeko, who I have fond memories of back when the Bosnian played for Manchester City. The stadium is located 5 km from Milan city centre, the number 16 tram does go right outside which is handy. With a capacity of 80,018, this is the largest football stadium in Italy, which is around 10,000 higher than Stadio Olimpio, in Rome, which is the second highest. I do think the state of the stadium has become old and sad, it originally opened in 1926, and the modern-day San Siro is a bit of a dump and has certainly seen better days, it's not a surprise to me at the rumours of this place being demolished and rebuilt after the 2026 Olympics. The stadium is virtually crumbling, and I dislike the concrete columns, hopefully, a new arena will shortly follow. A stadium with historical importance in Italian football, easy enough to get to, but sadly on its' last legs and it feels like it hasn't been renovated or had money spent on it in years. 3* read more

In the beginning .. Stadio Giuseppe Meazza aka The San Siro (the district it is located in) is one of the European temples of football and I was lucky enough to be around when the Derby Della Madonnina was taking place this weekend. This is when the two clubs that share this stadium, A.C.Milan and Internazionale, get to play each other. It first opened in 1926 with a game between them which Inter won 6-3 and 21 years later Inter became tenants alongside AC. Over the years it has progressed from 35,000 capacity to 85,700 after renovation was carried out to prepare for the 1990 FIFA World Cup finals. Let me just make it clear that I am first and foremost a footie fan and my team is Everton .. so eat it. I have been to all the English Premier league stadia bar Wigan (shock) and have done most of the European grounds when given half a chance but the San Siro was missing from my bouquet list. I can check it off now and also give my wallet CPR as the Inter v AC game last night was sold out so I took a chance and bought a tout ticket at a ridiculous price and wangled my way in. Something about a snowy Milano night and 80,000+ people crammed into tiny seats, in what is essentially a cold concrete box, does nothing to take away from the heat generated by the wall of noise and an electric atmosphere. For anyone who has not experienced one of the major European Football matches then it is impossible to describe apart from to say you will not know what hit you and you will wonder why no one ever told you about it. Don't come here expecting fine dining as that is just not going to occur in the area of the stadium where the real football fans are. Just feed off the atmosphere, you will be sated. FTR the 208th Derby della Madonnina ended with honours even 1-1 although AC were by far the better team. who knew ... in 1980 the San Siro Stadium held its first ever music concert. Meh. This stadium was cool since all the merchandise and food trucks were outside but the stadium was poorly laid out. We had to walk like 10 flights of stairs to get to the 200 level. But we had awesome seats for the AC Milan game and they won! Top Tip: TAKE TOILET ROLL. better yet try to not go the toilet at all here! It's just a hole in the ground, no paper, no soap- really disappointing. We sat in the red section. The only way to get a drink or food in the stadium is by the men who carry things around their necks- it's overpriced and below average. It being February- another tip- wear as much clothes as possible- better yet take a blanket (plenty had them) it was freezing. Game was ok. read more

I have been here twice, once for the Milan vs Inter Derby and once for a league game Inter vs Udinese in 2002. Its a funny place really, lumped up in the North of Milan in an industrial park, next to a horse racing track. The space age exterior is let down by pretty basic facilities inside. I would probably give this 3 stars but for the atmosphere for one of the games mentioned above; Champions League semi final between Inter and Milan. I went with a friend arriving an hour before kick off to watch the stadium fill up, however the place was already full and rocking and we had to watch from the stairs as there were way too many people in there already/ It was a crap game I think it was 0:0 but a brilliant night watching the singing, flags, fireworks, daredevil songmasters, and experiencing the deafening roar of the crowd as the game ebbed and flowed. read more

A grand old stadium in a football city. hopefully since 2005 some of the facilities have been updated. I'd heard about Italian toilets before but was quite surprised to find them so basic in such a stadium. read more
