Fantastic experience so far, I've been working with a Dr virtually for over a year now. My Dr spends the full 1/2 hour with me and I'm doing really well these days. :-) Please don't let location be your barrier to exploring mental health care. Virtual care can work just as well!

There was no sense of urgency or concern from the moment I called to make an appointment until the experience I had with the appointed psychiatrist. I was met with confrontation at the best of times and complete aggression at the worst. At this point, it seems structural because it was consistent. When making the appointment, I informed her that I was in crisis and needed to get in as soon as possible. However, I was met with impatience, a lack of empathy, and disregard for me as a human being. It felt like she didn't understand the field she was working in or how to deal with people in that situation. I wasn't a perfect human; I was confrontational as well. So, I just want to note that. However, when I realized that this wasn't helping, I could only see the structural incompetence happening in this practice. The psychiatrist was extremely confrontational and seemed to have no understanding of how to converse with a patient or build any form of trust. This is a very vulnerable time for someone to come in, and I was met with being talked over and kept asking, "Can I talk now?" or "Can I talk now?" or "What I said that's not what I said when I repeated what she had said that offended me." She seemed more concerned in proving her rightness than in understanding my perspective. I don't know, but this seems pretty structural at this point with this practice. I've never had an experience like this at a mental health facility in my life. And I worry about keeping this a secret because I do feel more of an obligation to warn anyone who might be in a more vulnerable situation. There could be fatal consequences if they reached out and experienced what I experienced. And I really hope that I can help somebody by sharing my experience.
