Tear. Childhood memories.
I grew up in Tommy More, and went to grammar school there from K-8. The school has since closed and morphed into a charter school, but the church is still there, to the best of my knowledge. I haven't been there in years, but from what I recall, services accomplished what all Catholic masses should-- build you up (G-d loves you!), knock you down (...even if you are a sinner), and top it off with some good ol' guilt. Keeps 'em coming back, Sunday after Sunday.. and holy days of obligation, too, if you know what's good for you.
In all seriousness, I miss attending church there. It's a beautiful structure and very old fashioned.. stained glass windows, gorgeous old fixtures.. this is your grandmother's church, and is nothing like the more modern ones seen nowadays. As with any parish you grow up in, it's hard to say about the priests and nuns any longer, as they neighborhood (and the Catholic Church as a whole) has changed quite a bit over the years. read more
