We adored our time here! Drift wood beach was so unique and beautiful. I saw a family ride horses…read morethrough it and if we come back I'm going to figure out how to get to do that! Haha. The seemingly endless sidewalk to circle the island or become immersed in the forest or stroll by the historic district were enchanting! We were lucky enough to see the turtle sanctuary, see some surgery being performed, and even the release of some turtles back to the ocean! It was a special stay and we truly would love to come back.

Jekyll Island: A Beautiful Nowhere…read more Let's start with the facts. Jekyll Island is gorgeous. Postcard-level gorgeous. If you're into palm trees, slightly ominous marshland, and skies that look like they're about to film a Nicholas Sparks movie, this place is for you. The Vibe: The historical district is stunning. Seriously. I half-expected a ghost in a hoop skirt to appear and offer me a glass of mint julep. But once you finish whispering "wow" at the old buildings and the Spanish moss, a strange feeling hits you... boredom. Beautiful, well-landscaped boredom. For Families? Perfect. Kids? Bring them. They'll love it. There's enough open space for them to run around and maybe learn a little history if that's your thing. For Lovers? Surprisingly... yes. If you and your significant other want quiet, privacy, and zero distractions, Jekyll is your spot. Want to disappear from the world and have deep talks about life while staring into the ocean? You got it. Want to cheat in peace and not get recognized? This place is not a Coldplay concert; no one will find you here. For Party People? Absolutely not. If you're looking to party, dance, go wild, or even just see a stranger under 50 doing something mildly questionable, keep driving. Jekyll is where excitement comes to retire. The Hotel: I stayed at the Holiday Inn. It was great in a "this-is-definitely-not-a-five-star" kind of way. Clean room, ocean view, no bugs doing parkour on the bathroom mirror. But make no mistake, this was a luxury motel at best with beach access. They say it's a resort, but your expectations should hover somewhere between "summer training barracks" and "bougie rest stop." Amenities: There's a Starbucks on the island if you feel like leaning into your basic side. It's right by the roundabout, because of course it is. Nothing screams 'island escape' like iced coffee in a paper cup near a traffic circle. The Toll: Yes, there's a toll. Ten dollars to get on the island. That's not a metaphor. You will literally pay to enter. By the time you read this, inflation might've nudged it up to fifteen. But if you're paying for privacy and to avoid humanity, it's arguably cheaper than therapy. Final Thoughts: Jekyll Island is like dating someone really attractive who has no hobbies. You'll enjoy the view for a while... then start wondering why you came. Would I go again? Yeah! but only if I had kids, a book to finish, or a secret I needed to bury.

The abandoned Jekyll Island Amphitheater was our last stop before leaving Jekyll over the weekend…read more We got there around 2ish, and there was one other pair exploring the area. To echo the previous review, this place feels so eerie. I've been to several abandoned or run down places in several different countries, in fact, my husband and I purposely seek these out! This one was one of the most creepy ones. It wasn't the fact that there was graffiti or that we went the back way up the hill, dropping us at the top of the stand, it was the energy. It was deeply unsettling. I agree, this is not kid friendly. But if you're into things that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand tall, this place is it.

I'd never have known about the Amphitheater if I hadn't taken my son to the Fire House and talked…read morewith the firefighters about the island. It's right near the fire house, but you'd never have a clue if you didn't get directions to head up the unmarked sandy road into a canopy of trees near the greenhouse nursery store. From there, you see where parking used to be, and the path to the theater is apparent. There are a bunch of azaleas in this wooded area, which were beginning to bloom in early March when I was there. It seemed like a network of a few paths around the area, but I dared not get lost, and headed straight to the theater. It's a bit spooky. I didn't know what I was sensing, animals, lurking humans, or supernatural (or all three). It's not a long walk, but a bit of a walk to the actual amphitheater, past an old ticket stand, and up a hill to the aluminum bleachers. This is NOT child friendly, and may even be a little unsafe. Metal is rusting and falling apart. Spraypaint graffiti decorates a few spots, which is random on Jekyll Island. It looks more like rebel teen artist than any real street cred tags. It was definitely artistic and interesting to me. I wanted to sit a while, but it wasn't safe for my son. There is a body of water behind the stage, and more wooded area. There's a projection/sound booth at the top of the theater. When I first arrived, the door to it was open, a few minutes later it was fully closed. There was no wind. It was VERY weird. I got the heck outta there. Jekyllisland.com actually invites visitors to explore the amphitheater, and has this to say about the place: "The amphitheater, which once hosted Valdosta State University theater performances, among others, closed in 2005. Revitalization of the amphitheater is on the Jekyll Island Authority's planning horizon. Driving north on Stable Road, turn right on the dirt road just past the firehouse, then keep to the right to find a green archway. From there it's a short hike to the amphitheater and pond."

Racist to Melenated Indigenous Americans. The issue I have is it depends on your background/culture…read moreand if you know people. I know nobody out here. When I connect with people, minority or not; they are rude. I also was called the n word, Nov 2024 first day I arrived in Brunswick, GA. A lot of sun down town personas in Brunswick, GA, be careful please. If you exp racism out here, other minorities won't care and will even cosign the racism. The minorities are cliche and only fool with people they know or go way back with, no new friends. I am also disabled and they are evil to disabled minorities down here. Will be moving in Jan can't take it here anymore. Only pro is the beautiful palm trees: which helps my ptsd, anxiety, and depression.

Our small city is lucky enough to have two tourist attractions Jekyll Island and St Simons island they both have hosts and hosts of great restaurants and shops not to mention the hotels and scenic views of the beaches, beautiful moss hanging from old oak trees, beautiful ocean life, bridges, peers etc. yeah I grew up in the small town of Brunswick Ga. I went to Glynn Academy High School and frequented the Weenie Wee Wagon a little shack with Amazing food I highly recommend if you ever visit Brunswick Ga to try this place and order the Pork chop sandwich it looks ugly but it tastes beautiful lol. I loved going to Jekyll Island to the Summer Waves water park with my family and walking on the Jekyll island beach ahhh the memories :) I remember waking up early in the summer time on Saturday morning and we all piled up in the van with mom and dad and went to(I know this sounds funny but) The Massengale Beach on St Simons Island and had a blast all day long man the memories are really starting to flow now thinking about my dads famous bbq's on that beach. The laughter and enjoying family. I miss my home town but I don't want to move back I'm to use to Houston Tx now lol. But we will defiantly buy a home or have one built there as a nice vacation home. So if you ever go to Brunswick Ga these are the places I recommend going too. I hope this review was helpful have a great day.:)
