This church is home for me. This is the church I grew up at since, even before kindergarten and…read moreuntil moving away during college. This is the catholic church I compare all churches to everywhere in the world. I went through catechism here and grew up with the same priest pretty much all my life. The deacon has always been the same as well. Father Tim Pelk has been a steadfast figure in this church. I have never been able to find a church that felt more at home and comfortable and warm as this church to me. I've never come across a better priest and father Tim Pelk either. I was baptized here, had my reconciliation, confirmation and was married here. This is to me what a catholic church should look like and be like. That should be the blueprint for other churches. Unfortunately this church is a half hour away from me now and it's too hard to get to every Sunday. I still do make it here every once in a while for the holidays.

This church is massive. It definitely deserves the name of a shrine…read more The altar is in the center of the church and the pews all jet out from every end of this central altar. You can definitely see the altar at any seat in the building, even upstairs on the balcony. The only difficulty is if you're not facing the main altar, as the priest often will face out one way. The church is the most beautiful during Christmas. It's always well decorated and filled with poinsettias and Garland, streamers and lights everywhere. The other downside of this church is that it's so massively huge, but it does not feel warm and welcoming. I will often go to this church for Easter and Christmas, because if it's close proximity to my house. For regular Sunday visits I will often go to other smaller churches, that feel more comfortable and cozy. Still every time I'm inside of this church in a few, I'm always struck and in all of the interior design and structure of this Shrine.

The first was today and it warmed my heart to see 40 folks digging into mermaid stew, kale salad, butternut squash soup, roasted root veggies, tea, etc like the good old days. Russell Street was the church she was raised in, so I have been up here many times for various occasions. My aunt still goes here, and so whenever there is a special event, she persuades us to come out. It's a smaller church than the one I attend now, and you can tell it is a family based church. Everyone knows everyone here. It's definitely one of those old contemporary churches that "senior citizens" love.
