Once he took the tour of Trinity he was sold and told Mom and I there was no reason to visit St. Xavier!!! First time visiting St. X, I had heard that the St. X campus was quite impressive and indeed it is. Although I didn't have an opportunity of touring the entire campus it's easy to see that their infrastructure is massive. Very fortunate that Louisville offers a wide selection of fine schools throughout the city.

This review is for the annual fish fry…read more The set up is somewhat confusing, there is a line that you stand in to get food and pay, but then there is another line that had no payment at the end so what was that food? I never found out. Then there is a whole other table for drinks where you have to buy a ticket for, which didn't concern me because I just had water. I got the fish with rye bread and tartar sauce. My side was mac and cheese and I tried a couple of my friends fries. Everything was hot and fresh although taste was lacking. The fish was pretty bland and the mac and cheese was so yummy looking in the pan, very thick and cheesy, but it hardened in my bowl and was pretty flat overall. Also we got there early which was a good idea because 5 minutes after we sat down a huge wave of people arrived and the dining room filled up to capacity. If you are in the area this isnt one bad, but for me I am still on the hunt for a better fry.

Southern high school is a magnet career high school in the Jefferson county public schools system…read morelocated off Preston Highway in the Okolona area of Louisville Kentucky. This purple and white wearing institution has a mascot of "Trojans" and was built in 1951. At one point southern was considered to have one of the top machine tool and die programs in the whole area. Being an alumni of southern graduating in the class of 2002 I can say that in my 4 years there I produced some great memories, met some life long friends (including my current wife) and had a really good time. I was pretty active in my time at a southern as I played 3 sports (football, wrestling, and track) and was involved in a various of clubs such as beta club and national honors society. During my time frame at the school the graduating classes were in the several hundreds. So in my 4 years being involved in all those activities with essentially 7 different graduating classes I probably interacted with close to a thousand different people. Like any school Southern is a place that you will get what you put into it. It's not considered a school for high academic excellence. But it is achievable. I feel like I made the most out of my time at the school and because of that I have long lasting memories and a better overall reaction to my time at the school. The school itself is quite large. Has two gymnasiums attached to the school, a large newly (built in the 90s I believe) renovated automotive department and 3 stories/floors full of classrooms. Well 4 floors if you count that historic and borderline mythical 4th floor that is gated off. I'm not sure about today's students but back in my day for several years there was all kinds of crazy rumors of what was up there. From a swimming pool, to a teachers smoking lounge there was all kinds of crazy and wild rumors. I've actually been up there. It's literally maybe 1-2 classrooms (it's been 20 years so some details escape me) full of old school supplies and a ladder that pops you up to the flat rooftop. And No! There isn't a pool up there. As stated already I enjoyed my time at the school. I'm not sure southern will ever be noted for a long list of famous alumni (super bowl mvp Phil Simms) and will never be a place you send a kid strictly to achieve a higher education. But the opportunity can be created. I'm personally fortunate enough to send my kids to private schools to try and set them up for higher education with better resources. However as stated, there are kids who don't take advantage of those programs. So it really does depend on the individual to make the most of there academic situation. I'll end this review the same way the former long time principal and principal during my time Jerry Keepers use to end his morning announcements. "Have a great Southern Day".

There is a separate area for drinks, you cannot buy them in the main line. I am normally very devout in my order of fish, it has not ever changed the whole time I have been going to these, but there was something called Spicy fish on the menu that was just too intriguing to pass up. And I am glad I ordered it because it was great. A slightly spicy, big piece of flaky fish. Really nice. It was too "wet" to eat with bread but that is OK, less carbs right? haha I also had the Mac and cheese, which was very creamy and a nice size portion, as well as a piece of cheese pizza which was good. The one thing I thought was hilarious is at the front they had some kind of game where a ton of children were playing. It was basically roulette (they spun a wheel and you put a marker down on what number you thought the wheel would land on) and all I could think was that it was odd that they would teach children gambling inside of a church, but hey, its not my church so LOL

Plenty of parking at and near the gymnasium where dine in meals are served, as well as designated takeout lines which were well marked. Drive thru service is available and is roped off in a dedicated area accessible from Mercer Avenue. I ordered a fish filet and opted to forgo the choice of white or rye bread. I initially chose green beans and Cole slaw, but opted for rice pilaf when I realized it was a vinegar slaw. I also received a hush puppy, which was quite tasty. The fish filet was flakey and seasoned well, albeit a bit salty and a tad browner than preferred. Rice pilaf ended up being abandoned after a few bites since it was bland and mushy. Green beans were predictably fine. Self-service with automated hand towel napkin dispenser and also large gallon pump dispensers for ketchup and tartar sauce. Great idea! Drink service is a separate line at a concession window. Soda, tea, and water were $1. Beer, sangria, and margaritas were also available at a separate concession window. Gym dine-in was very large and well organized with plenty of tables and chairs in rows. Centralized garbage cans and recycling containers. Noise level was very loud and opted not to participate in raffles since we couldn't hear and so missed out on purchasing tickets this week. Cake wheels and other fundraising games of chance were set up near entrance. Security guard on duty (off-duty LEO) at exit.
