Visiting is free of charge, naturally, and the church will be open to visitors during the day. Photography is also allowed, and free. The church is located at the heart of the so-called "cathedral district" - no surprises there - but be aware that it is quite a walk away from the train station, less so from the main bus depot. This is a small but very nice church which looks quite impressive on the outside and is rather stylish inside, although there are no spectacular artworks or artefacts to be found here (except maybe the grave slab of the famous painter Joseph Wright of Derby, whose works you can find a-plenty at the warmly recommended local art gallery, which is less than a 10 minute walk from this place - and some impressive metalwork). However, the cathedral exudes a warm and comforting atmosphere that will certainly appeal to regular church-goers. Staff are very nice and forthcoming, too. See my photos for reference.

It is a Grade I listed building, designated in 1952. It was built between 1530 and 725 before becoming a Cathedral in 1927, with a recent renovation between 2015 and 2016. A pretty minor Cathedral, which isn't overly impressive other than the clock tower. Nothing too outstanding and while it is impressive as with any Cathedral, it lacks that special unique feeling with it being too minor or ordinary. I do feel the lighting could be better to make it stand out more at night, which they seem to have stopped? 2*

While nobody knows for sure why the spire is twisted and leaning to one side, it certainly adds significant amusing character to the city centre, which is otherwise your typical smallish English Midlands town. This Anglican church dates back to the 13th century, though most it was finished a century later, including that comical spire. New painted windows were added as late as 1984. The inside of the church is very characteristic of many in England, and not particularly spectacular. There is a line of wooden tablets attached to the walls that illustrate the martyrdom of Christ. Entry to the church is free, and you're welcome to take photos.

It is "crooked" for two reasons. First is the twist, which was apparently by design. The second is that back in those days, there weren't too many skilled craftsmen. The Black Death killed lots of people, donchaknow. I didn't go in, I just stopped to take pictures. So I can't tell you what the inside looks like or how the services are.

The church is particularly well-decorated and well-equipped with smart rooms which support a large range of mid-week community activities. It's an unashamedly evangelical church with a strong emphasis on the Bible. It tends to be quite busy on a Sunday morning but that means there are always people around to talk to. All in all, a friendly church with an unusual background -- definitely worth a visit.
