The public school did not have reasonable student-teacher ratios given the needs of the class. We knew that we needed to find a safe, inclusive space for our child. We found that and so much more in ArtsCalibre. Their unique approach to education nurtures creativity, individuality, and academic growth. Our gifted child has flourished here--a love for learning rekindled and they now have confidence as an artist AND in mathematics. The balance between arts and academics is exceptional, fostering both imagination and critical thinking. We can't recommend ArtsCalibre Academy highly enough!"

First and foremost - this school has a very big comunications problem - this is between head…read moremistress and her staff, head mistress and parents and effectively due to this parents and teachers. Emails sent out are unclear, teachers are confused as to what's happening ( and they will tell you that) so not professional on that front at all. In addition, be warned as they may happen to you : my shy, innocent and introverted natured daughter was subjected to blame by the unapproachable looking head mistress. She was unfairly dismissed from attending the school based on petite reasons like ( ready for this ) .. spilling juice ! which in actual fact she didn't even do! I had geared my daughter for over a year to attend this preschool - which my son had just finished attending ( preschool) and now she is utterly distort as to why she can't go there! my daughter is one who takes time to adjust and accustom to people and places and I had prepared her for this school - only to be told in July ( when I had already paid!) that she can't go because reasons like ' she split juice on the table!'. Furious I am forsure, but very upset for my daughters as to what's going on as I have to (1) find another preschool in the middle of the summer beak and (2) try and make her feel accustomed and familiar to another preschool. I hope no one goes through this - especially over juice ! The actually teachers here are nice , but if you ever encounter or see the head mistress - she can make it the worst experience for you! so it can't really be over juice ... so Why did she do this ? We ( friends that went to the same school and I ) believe the reason is : its all about the dollars and cents, my daughter was signed up for doing a 2 day programme Monday and Wednesday ( which was agreed on ) and I'm very sure she filled this spot with some one who wanted Monday / Wednesday and Friday - the extra day and money greed just gave her a pile of petite incorrect reasons to hurt my daughter and gain her a bad reputation. So sad .

When I first started to look for preschools in Langford I was disappointed to find that there weren't many options, most places I found were day cares trying to pass themselves off as a preschool. Pussywillow is not a daycare, the curriculum is strictly that of a school and the staff have targets and objectives (along with lots of fun, play, and free time) for the children to strive to so that that are well prepared for Kindergarden. I've ven spoken to Kindergarden teachers who can tell if they child went to Pussywillow simply by how they are doing not only academically but also emotionally as well. I would recommend this preschool to anyone, the staff are warm and welcoming and genuinely care about each child that goes there.

Sadly not wide eyed from the eagerness of learning but from fear. For many it's their first time away from their primary caregiver or it's their first day in a Canadian school or it's their first day away from an unhealthy and unstable home life. Some children wonder what scary and uncertainty awaits them in this big and new home away from home. At the end of their first year these children are vastly different. These children walk straighter and more confident because they finally feel seen, heard and acknowledged for the first time in their short existence. For each child right along with the family is welcomed, embraced and supported. Far too many parents feel all this for the very first time in their lives. This is what awaits you at George Jay elementary if you are willing to let them in. I gave them 4/5 stars simply becasuse they are still working at getting the place more wheelchair accessible not only for students but for their staff as well. It's a start!

It was a big transition for her - first time at boarding school and a much more rigorous academic environment. She felt supported and adapted quickly. It is a well-rounded school set in one of the most stunning environments - everyone who visits makes the comment that it's like Hogwarts...I say it's like a West Coast Hogwarts. The teachers are readily available and the school provides ample time for studying. Even with a demanding hockey schedule, our daughter is doing well. We feel very fortunate that we were able to access this amazing school through their generous financial aid. I wanted to leave a review (something I rarely do), because I often use Siri while driving to SLS to gauge how long the drive to Shawnigan will take me from Victoria...and I'm tired of Siri saying "Shawnigan Lake School with 1-star on Yelp?" While I have no doubt the reviewer from 2018 didn't like their experience...our daughter loves it and worked hard to make the team and to be accepted into the school. Of course, not all students (or adults for that matter!) are motivated and community-minded. But our experience has shown that the vast majority of the students are supportive and are driven in academics, arts and athletics. I can't recommend SLS enough - we are thrilled our daughter is able to experience this exceptional community!
