Zion United Church of Christ (UCC) in Perry Hall is a wonderful place to worship. The…read morecongregation is very friendly and welcoming no matter who you are. The congregation loves to be active in the community and has many community events throughout the year, including but not limited to, Monster Bash, Peach Festival, Strawberry Festival, Caroling during Christmas, and Sour Beef dinners . Zion UCC is very focused on missions (as the UCC tends to be mission oriented). It really makes you feel great that you can help others in so many different ways. Pastor Courtney is very relatable and is always striving to reach out to the congregation in new and inspiring ways during the services. She's also very welcoming of constructive feedback. Her sermons touch on the scripture AND relates to modern day living/ struggles, even current events. She really makes you think and inspires at the same time! Music tends to be on the more traditional side, but there are occasions where more modern music is sung/ played. There's a nice blend of tradition and modern worship. Personally, being on the more spiritual side, I feel right at home! I would recommend Zion UCC to everyone of all ages, no matter who or where you are on life's journey!

Today's Lenten homily was inspiring and interesting, motivating me to research the transfiguration painting by Fra Angelico. This high Mass delighted all the senses, from the ornate beauty of the sanctuary to the traditional hymns to the incense. The church is very large and incredibly appealing. There is plenty of parking along the street or in adjacent free lots. The priest is hip, even hosting a Tuesday night book club!

Very beautiful church on lovely old grounds. The choir is a professional choir of about 15 or so,…read moreextremely beautiful music and organ. The service is what some people refer to as "high" but actually all the beauty seems to make it all the more personal in this space. The congregation is usually about 20 - 30 people, but sometimes gets to double those numbers. It's very peaceful, and solemn with shafts of sunglight beaming onto the altar space. St. Johns worships in a true Anglican style, and so much feels like of another time - until the Rector, Father Parker shares the sermon just standing in the aisle and just talks to the people, quite friendly and sort of personally connected. Some of us talked about being very moved by the sermon, and then with all the beautiful vestments and music it's quite compelling. Dont be fooled by the luxury of it all, it's quite intimate. I would say the service is focused, but not so serious that one leaves without a great feeling and a good message. The people there are very nice, and friendly. It has become my church, so perhaps I'm more biased now, but these were my impressions about 15 minutes after my first time at St. Johns.
