The public library holds such a special place in my heart. I've visited a few times and I'm always so impressed by their selection and how kind and helpful the staff is. I absolutely love libraries. I don't know what there isn't to love- mass amounts of books, computer access, a quiet spot, resources galore, passport photos, events- I could go on! The Buder Branch is located super close to my house which is one of the many reasons why I love my neighborhood. It's always clean and the staff is always attentive and helpful. They have a huge selection of books throughout the entire system stl library system- so if this location doesn't have one, another location probably does. You can request it and they will send it over in the matter of a couple of days. I come here sometimes to get out of my house for a change of scenery. Lots of places to work where you have the ability to be focused and unbothered. I also got my passport photo and application for renewal here which is super helpful. So thankful for this neighborhood gem! read more

I've been working from this location for a few hours at a time while a family member goes to medical treatments up the street. It had been nice. There is lots of seating including tables and small rooms you can use. Overall it's a fairly quiet environment and one whole floor is a "quiet floor". The wi-fi is strong and stays connected well. The employees are helpful and friendly. This library does have 2 floors and a lower level... which I don't love. There is an elevator if you prefer or stairs. There are books and book displays on both upper levels and it's nicely arranged. The lower level is a computer lab - I'm not really sure how that works but they have signs up when it is "open". read more

Can't believe I haven't put in my two cents for this library branch because it's been lovely! The Buder Branch isn't close to my house but I've been here several times. The desk folks have always been helpful. The space is open and welcoming and I've worked comfortably and quietly in this location. read more

We LOVE coming to Buder. The third floor is dedicated to kids, and it is so inviting, with the friendliest librarians. My daughter and I come almost every Thursday to their Baby Bookworms program, and she loves spending time there with other kids. Miss Kate who read the stories is fantastic, even with our rowdy toddlers running around taking her books haha. There are tons of toys for the kiddos to play with, coloring sheets, you name it. read more

This is a great library to have in the neighborhood! There are three floors and a basement. The basement has classrooms and meeting spaces (and free classes for the community like GED prep and learning spreadsheets and other computer skills), the first floor is mostly fiction, the second floor is non fiction, and the third floor is for kids and young adults. The third floor is the most fun! There's a space for littles with lots of board books. There are tables where volunteers can help kids with homework after school. There is a teen lounge area. I love hanging out on this floor even though I'm an adult (and my child is 4 months and can't read on her own yet). The staff is usually pretty friendly and helpful. On the first floor main checkout desk, there are always multiple employees so I've never had to wait in line for more than 1-2 minutes. One thing that is really convenient about the library system overall is that you can request any book or DVD and it'll be delivered to the location you choose to pick up. Also, with your free library card, you have access to Overdrive, which allows you to listen to audiobooks for free. Yay for the library's physical space and online content! read more

The library is so critical to community. First off, it's FREE. Browsing and finding a book to check out or requesting one you want online to pick up is the main service the library offers. They also have community classes and events, such as kids reading time or a knitting group. They also have free internet access and a limited amount of free printing. There is ample parking at this location and all the librarians I have worked with have been so pleasant and helpful. This is my absolute favorite part about my neighborhood. read more

I think I visit Buder nowadays more than I visit Schlafly, and it's mainly because of the parking lot. It's one of the newer branches. The basement has a computer lab that is usually open if it's not booked for the GED or ESL classes. First floor consists of CDs, DVDs, and fiction. The second floor is made up of a quiet area, nonfiction, and more computers. The third floor is the children's area. I rhapsodize about the library in my Central Branch review, so you can go there to read all about why I love the library. Regarding this branch: Pros: Big and spacious with nice lighting. A big selection of stuff. A parking lot! Although people just randomly back out nilly-willy, so just be careful. Nice seating. Great hours. Cons: Computers are almost always booked. Private rooms aren't really private because the tops aren't enclosed, so you can hear everyone around you amplified. Patrons have no idea of personal space...I was studying at a table, left for a second, and when I came back, someone had made themselves at home across from me even though there were other tables available. Um, ok... No self check out. Xerox machines 15 cents a copy. read more

Key things to remember are that you get up to 200 pages of free computer print outs every month; you can check out a ton of books; there are lots of computers for free public use; and there is a really good selection of books here. It's a really good deal. Plenty of parking and right by a Hampton bus stop, Schnucks, Target, eateries, etc. These are my caveats: you have to book a computer in advance (206-6702) because they're almost always full; there's no way of printing things in color, faxing, scanning, or using CD-roms; fines really add up; and while alot of the staff can be nice, alot of them are overworked and can be frosty or indifferent. read more

I will admit I am a complete and utter nerd, I love libraries. And the Buder library is no exception. It has ample parking, 3 floors plus a basement, great study/work space, friendly staff, and my favorite lots and lots of books!! There are times when I just need to get out of my office to get work done and Buder is my go-to place. I have never had trouble finding a quiet place to hole myself up with my laptop and get work done. And when I need breaks I just cruise the isles looking for gems of books I may have previously missed. One more than one occasion staff and the children's librarians have taken their time to search for resources that have been miss-shelved or are waiting to be returned to their shelves. They have been very helpful and willing to go above and beyond to help me with my research. Also they have a great selection of audio books and eBooks- which I take advantage of on a regular basis! read more

I love this library! I can always find the latest travel guides, the space is very appealing and you always run into a neighbor or two.

Manager was extremely rude during the solar eclipse. Made people wait for almost the entire event without glasses while his staff kept coming outside looking up with them on and pointing "ooh and wow ". Man was obnoxious when we asked why he wouldn't give us the promised glasses. He said it wasn't time yet. Seriously. read more

Outstanding branch of the St Louis city library, one of the top two or three out of them. The selection of nonfiction and fiction is usually very good compared to other branches. CD selection is so so but you obviously can request anything in the system. Video game selection is strong. The quiet work rooms on floor 2 are exceptionally soundproofed. Biographies and local history is a very strong element of the on site collection. Parking is convenient, and the lines are very short for checkouts. read more

I believe this branch has three floors, though I ever only go on the main floor, so I'm not entirely sure. My son and I spend a lot of time at this library as it is very close to our house and we're both book worms. I love that they have an entire floor for children and young adults. As a teacher and mother to a now 1st grader, we are often found on the third floor. The librarians are also so helpful and fun to talk to. They are almost always able to make excellent recommendations and are very patient with both me and my son (yes, I require just as much patience when it comes to books). They offer tons of free activities for kids and I love the online accessibility of SLPL. read more

Civic duty obligates a 3-star and for us bibliophiles, libraries are still great places, but Buder Library in my neck of the woods needs to police a few items to make visits more enjoyable: First, there is room for slightly larger computer tables. I know libraries are mini experiments in socialism out of necessity, but really, when typing up a resume or report, I dont need to smell the foul urine-smell of the bag-lady on my left nor hear the off-key humming of the pimply-faced teen ager downloading tunes to my right! Also, lets make sure the security guards are taking peeks in the rest rooms once in a while - occasionally there is a creep or two loitering in there! Finally, the young kid playing guitar outside the library door needs to head down to Soulard or CWE - Libraries are not places for you to try out bad music in hopes of getting tips of some chic's phone number, dude, really. read more
