I just moved to Kirkwood last week and had to drop by City Hall in order to setup my utilities and obtain an occupancy permit. Upon arrival, I was immediately pointed in the right direction by a pleasant lady who just happened to see me standing there confused. Between her, the woman who helped me with the occupancy permit, and the woman who helped me setup my utilities, I could not be any happier with their customer service. First rate all around. On top of that, I was in and out of the building with everything I needed within 10-15 minutes and was warmly welcomed to Kirkwood by everyone I spoke with. This experience was so fast, so easy, and I wish all governmental operations functioned in this fashion.

Did you know our local fire department is dually trained as firefighters and EMT. It's amazing to see all of the compartments and equipment they contain to handle any situation. We enjoyed seeing several varieties of police vehicles and equipment. Cars, jeeps, a tanker and a robot. A K-9 officer was onsite as well. The inside of a crime lab van was interesting and full of various supplies used for investigations. We got to go inside and tour the dispatch center and the jail. Unfortunately we missed Safety Town. The day also included lunch and ice cream treats from 2 great food trucks. Popcorn, water and face painting were also available. It was hot but a great day learning about those who protect and serve our community. The mayor along with board members and council members were there mingling and answering questions.

I was frustrated when I was transferred to a voicemail and had to wait for someone to return my call. I am a very impatient person, so this was quite the annoyance. To my surprise, I received a call back within an hour from Tara Garrow. Not only was she helpful, but she answered all questions I had! It is often said that you can tell if someone is smiling over the phone when they speak..... well she was smiling and was one of the most helpful and pleasant young ladies I have spoken to in quite some time. When I received a call about scheduling the vaccine, I had the pleasure of speaking wiht Ms. Garrow for a second time. Let me say she was just as pleasant and helpful as she was initially. Amazing work Ms. Garrow! Amazing Work! Sincerely, Grateful Jefferson County Resident

The director of the Camp could not be less helpful or kind and caring. Essentially in a nutshell paying for unorganized chaos and to have your child belittled, made to feel inadequate and worried to attend other camps or activities in fear of being treated the same. 1000% would not recommend this camp to my worst enemy! The Fairview Heights police station is on Bunkum Rd in between the Fire House and the Library…read more It's not everyday I walk into the police station; at least not for me. When I think of the police station, I see myself walking into a building full of officers at their desk doing paperwork, drinking coffee and hauling in criminals (apparently I've seen too many crime shows). Well to my surprise that wasn't the case. I actually walked into this large hallway, extremely quiet.. wasn't too sure what to do. To the right is the window for the records department, to the left, a window to dispatch. On the windows there's a sign "Dispatch can not hear through the window. Please pick up phone to your right for police services". Okay! An officer answered the line, I explained I needed to make a police report. She took my name, number, address and said she would send a officer to me. Wait.. what?!? I'm in the lobby! If I knew I could just call and have a officer come to me to make a report, I would've! Instead she sent a officer to come and take my report in the lobby. While waiting I was able to observe the bulletin board with helpful information to citizens in Fairview Heights. There's a MedReturn drug collection unit, where you can drop off unwanted prescription. If you need a gun lock, just ask, they will provide 1 free of charge. Better safe then sorry! Even though it looks empty, there are people there behind those dark mirror windows. At the end of the day... if I had to go back I would, by I'm hoping I don't need too!
