How we wish Egremont offered 6th grade. Our second son continues to attend Egremont School and will continue to do so until he graduates. With this review we aim to express our heartfelt appreciation to Tina Struve - Egremont's Principal. Ms. Struve not only leads with exceptional skill but also with compassion and dedication. We are forever grateful to Ms. Struve, faculty, security, and assistive personnel for creating a nurturing and secure environment where my sons have thrived academically and socially. Throughout the years we have formed lasting friendships that go beyond the school setting. We confidently recommend Egremont School to anyone seeking excellent elementary education for their children. Egremont's specialty classes are wonderful, my sons especially like technology, art, music, and musical theater. Egremont welcomes you as parents and families to be extremely involved in your children's elementary school years. As a family we can't wait to join the festivities: Camping Under the Stars, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Holiday Celebrations. This year as we were in quarantine due to covid I was really impressed with how well the teachers were able to accommodate our students and meet them where they were at via online zoom and classroom sessions. This parcel is far more than vacant land--it is part of the historic birthplace of Granada Hills. The remaining historic structures have been allowed to deteriorate over the years, and it is heartbreaking to watch such an important piece of our community's history continue to decline. This is also not the first time this property has been at the center of controversial development proposals. For decades, the community has raised concerns about projects that would intensify use of this site despite its location in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone and the surrounding evacuation challenges. Many residents believe these concerns deserve far more consideration than they have received. As a neighbor, I have found Heritage Christian School to be largely unresponsive to the community's longstanding concerns about the property's condition and future. Instead of working with residents to preserve this historic site and find a solution that benefits Granada Hills, the property continues to be marketed for increasingly intensive development. This land represents an important chapter in our community's history. It deserves thoughtful stewardship, preservation where possible, and a future that respects both public safety and the heritage of Granada Hills--not another proposal that divides the community. I hope Heritage Christian School reconsiders its approach and becomes a better partner to the neighborhood it has been part of for so many years.

A lot of you were horrible to me, not physically thankfully. I got a lot of verbal racism and got threatened by another student at least once. For the 'crime' of my ethnicity and being a little 'weird'. I forgive you of course, you were kids too and your racist sentiments probably were just echoing your parents. You probably didn't know any better. I just hope that if you have kids now, that you teach them to be kind to their peers and not ostracize them for being 'weird' or an ethnicity that gets singled out on the news or whatever. The staff was old and very 'kids will be kids' and did not care, or my bullies would lie and twist the truth to pin it on me. I still liked my teachers, though. I'm pretty sure none of them are still working here so I can't say how the school is now.

The second thing I noticed was their great security. From the outside you can not see the kids unless you are definitely on school campus. Upon meeting the director, Phyllis Schneider, and listening to their "mission statement" I knew they would be a perfect fit for us. Seven months in I still feel their philosophies are an extension of what we do at home. Learning happens through experiences and play, not sessions and lessons(boring to a toddler). At this age I feel it's important to make learning fun so the child will want to continue the process. That's what SM does. Their policies may feel stringent to some: no candy, no juice, no sweets, not even on birthdays. There is a protocol to dropping your child off and saying goodbye which is set to ease the children without mom and dad and establish a routine. To me, all this has been such a relief. There is a system in plan and a strong director to execute it. Without a strong director there is no strong program. I took Phyllis' STEP parenting class. It was amazing. It's made my relationship with my child much much better. Phyllis is strong but she also gives us parents the tools to be strong parents with happy toddlers/children. I've seen my child blossom at SM. There are days I see it from the time I drop her off to when I pick her up. The teachers are kind, helpful and attentive. The couple of times we've had bumps or bruises (bc kids will be kids) the teachers have a report ready and can tell me how it happened. I've never felt that my child is not looked after. We've really enjoyed the faculty and families at St. Mel Preschool.

my son has been here since he was 18 months old. prior to him, my niece attended the school until…read moreshe graduated out. all i can say is although there are others who have a different opinion about this place, i would highly recommend it. if you take the time to interact with the staff and understand how they function, they are quite caring about the kids...know all their little mannerisms and behaviors and do keep in constant contact with you and allow you to do the same. my son loves all of his teachers as he has graduated to the next room each year and he has learned a lot in preparation for kinder. they have been flexible and accommodating to myself and other parents who work full time and try our best to get to the childrens events on time. my son has graduated out of this school as of this month, and to the very end, he has always been comforted for nap time when he has requested a teacher to do so. as parents we each have our own version of expectations and starter set does what they can to make both parents and children comfortable while upholding their own standards and policies.
