Another beautiful church, and what a great day to discover it! I had read a small message in the regular church bulletin about a new priest ordination happening in late June. I had never had the privilege of experiencing one, so off we went...Me, the old Catholic and my husband the skeptical, old Jewish dude.
He comes with me because is has an insatiable curiosity about all things religious and this was one of the best days he could've even come with me.
St. Joseph is a very beautiful church, very modern, wide open and with great acoustics. There are restrooms in the back of the church, a crying room for the parents with noisy kids and plenty of parking.
This day, three young priests were being ordained and I had hoped that we might get to see what we used to call in the old days "a high mass." The mass exceeded my expectations! There were about 60-75 priests from different orders in attendance, several nuns and an amazing crew of gentlemen (mostly older) wearing their full Knights of Columbus regalia. Seriously? They looked like admirals from an old Spanish navy, complete with swords.
One of the young priests had family from Peru and the other had family from Africa.
The choir was lovely, the air was on (nice and cool) and there were plenty of missals and song books for everyone. It was about a 2 hour event, maybe a little more but St. Joseph's did a great job hosting the event. read more
