You just have to stop here, trust me, it is beautiful! So much love, from the people who take care of the church, a church this old, you find no neglect anywhere! Just a perfect size church for this little England village! I took plenty of photos inside, but sadly, I did not take a photo of the church from the outside. (Why? There was a person in front of me and he was just standing there, so I said, I'll take it later, instead I took a photo of the sign, and left without taking the church!) The church bell tower at exactly 2:30pm, made one big CLANG! That bells reminds me of our church, in my province. It would be nice to experience what it was like to attend a small village church, the church that William Wordsworth worshiped when he was alive. The bridge, & the water under the bridge flowed exactly like the bridge, even the trees above the hill, everything there are SO MUCH like my memories of the ones by my house!

It has a lovely walking path, benches to rest your feet for a moment and beautiful scenery. This location is a must-see for all visitors to Grasmere. The church itself is beautiful, and definitely worth a visit. I didn't have the opportunity to attend a service, though I wish I could have.

Free Grace Baptist Church is a warm Christian Community led by Pastor Steve Wood. They have an…read moreoutreach/information stall in the Indoor Market each Thursday. Initially I met the pastor at the stall. He, and other members of the congregation who ran the stall were very supportive when I was low, ill and cheerful. They invited me to their harvest festival, lunch afterwards, picked me up and took me home after. Whilst I disagree with some of the views held by some of the people around me here, their warmth and acceptance shines through.

Dundrennan Abbey is situated on…read morethe A711, 6.5 miles SE of Kirkcudbright The abbey is constructed of local freestone ashlar during the late 12th century which makes it unuals as most scottish abbeys are made of the much lighter sandstone. It is still accessed by the decorated west door, although it is no more than a restored archway set in a much-repaired wall of the church. With the exception of the church transepts, and the entrance arches to the Chapter House, very little remains standing to any height at Dundrennan. However, much of the foundation masonry is visible, including the column bases along the length of the nave, giving an accurate indication of how the site was laid out. Admission is not to expensive at just under £3 so if you like this sort of thing it is worth a visit.

Its most famous connection is to Fletcher Christian (the Bounty mutineer), who was Christened in the church, and his father has a table tomb in the graveyard. Also notable are members of poet William Wordsworth's family (Wordsworth lived 2 km down the road in Cockermouth). His son John was Vicar of St. Bridget's Church for 40 years. The graveyard is quite stunning, with more than 700 monuments. The interior is also beautiful with painted plasterwork and timber work ceilings by William Butterfield, a famed architect of the mid to late 1800s. The ceilings, much of which was recently restored, are unlike any that I have seen in England's churches. The first time I visited was in 1983, the year I lived in Brigham. I must say that when I recently returned, the church looked even more beautiful and well-kept as I remember.

There is a kitchen on each floor. The center is available for hire for private events such as family or children's parties, and community activities. A photographic society, the Wildlife trust lectures, Guides, Mothers and Toddlers, and Weight Watchers are held here. Services are held in the Parish Centre on a Thursday at 10.00am.
