Thought it had a different name, first Saint Andrew's Church, then Greyfriars Church. So, I checked the marked skyline visual I had taken a picture of and a map I had and realized I had veered off in a direction I had not meant to, and, aha! it was St George's Church of Scotland, which was entirely off of the visual I had taken a picture of because it was too far north. One of the morals of my July 2019 heritage travel trip to Scotland, take pictures of everything if unsure of where one is. Also, if one has a map and thinks one might be lost, better to check early and correct course. The church is still in use and holds service. The outside is visible from afar, which is part of how I ended up visiting it. I followed the tall steeple tip and ended up here... just not on my map/visual. The grounds were well maintained and informational bulletins on the premises provide church information.

The drive to the Abby is picturesque, along the rolling hills and tucked away in a quaint village - the roads not changed much since the village was founded, narrow and harrowing if there's any traffic. The walls of the former monastery rise up from the verdant hills towards the sky, ruins now, but once, they would have been grand. For 4.50 you get to spend as much time as you like, roaming through the well preserved old gal, there are signs that tell you about her bones, and her history. Listen to the pigeons who roost in her eves and flutter back and forth. Occasionally some sound like Monks speaking their prayers - or perhaps that is just an echo from the past coming back to your ears. Either way, The Sweetheart Abby tells the tale of a woman, lost, who had her husband's heart embalmbed, so that when SHE died, she could be buried holding onto it. Love is eternal they say. Behind the old Church is a vast and dated graveyard. Pay attention walking amidst the stones. The ground is moist and the soil can be loose. It is said that the stones may falter. Tread lightly lest you be the next resident among the stones.

You just have to stop here, trust me, it is beautiful! So much love, from the people who take care of the church, a church this old, you find no neglect anywhere! Just a perfect size church for this little England village! I took plenty of photos inside, but sadly, I did not take a photo of the church from the outside. (Why? There was a person in front of me and he was just standing there, so I said, I'll take it later, instead I took a photo of the sign, and left without taking the church!) The church bell tower at exactly 2:30pm, made one big CLANG! That bells reminds me of our church, in my province. It would be nice to experience what it was like to attend a small village church, the church that William Wordsworth worshiped when he was alive. The bridge, & the water under the bridge flowed exactly like the bridge, even the trees above the hill, everything there are SO MUCH like my memories of the ones by my house!

It has a lovely walking path, benches to rest your feet for a moment and beautiful scenery. This location is a must-see for all visitors to Grasmere.
