This is the Byzantine Catholic Monastery, also called Holy Transfiguration Monastery. Holy Transfiguration Monastery is the place to go for Prayer and communion with God Almighty. This Church signifies the importance of prayer. One can do this in peace and quietness, in this Church's tranquil atmosphere, submitting your whole body and mind to Our Lord Jesus Christ. For a believing Christian or any one who is looking to find the Spirit, seeking God, may very well be lead to his or her destination in the process. There is a calmness around this traditional church which follows Byzantine Rite. I and my family attended this church for 27 years. My children grew up in this church. How I and my family ended up here is another whole story, and keep it for another time. We being ancient Syrian Catholic and Syrian Orthodox Christians (St.Thomas Christians), felt so at home at this Church. The Divine Liturgy here, is similar to our Church (Syrian Rite) back in Kerala, India. and we just planted our roots here as we felt so at home. The Divine Liturgy is similar to Greek Orthodox, if you are not familiar with Syrian Rite. This is a very small congregation and there are usually six or seven monks. The Congregation and the Clergy are all very friendly and welcoming. There is always food after the Divine Liturgy. I always enjoyed the few minutes of peaceful quiet meditational prayer after the service. I always felt the presence of God, and awesome stillness. After the Divine liturgy, there is potluck in the cafeteria, where everybody is invited. This is a time you enjoy fellowship with the monks and the congregation. One will be surprised to see sometimes people from other parts of the country visiting to be here for retreats or just to spend a day or few days to participate in Prayer and in The Divine Liturgy. When the kids were younger, we used to go for hikes after the potluck. Good old times! God bless the monks here, who have dedicated their lives to pray for the world, and the congregation, including the occasional and constant visitors. Dolly Z.
