Just got shouted at for putting in 10p's in the machine when I'm not supposed to. There are no…read moresigns to let me know about this. This lady shouted across the room "What do you think you're doing?" in a questionable tone. Then told me not to put 10p's in the machine. I did apologise! But she huffed and cursed because I'm dumb enough to put 10p's in these machines. I did not know about this as it is not signposted ANYWHERE. Well I know better now and I also know where my business is welcome. There was no need to be rude and that situation could have been dealt with amicably without such hostility. I do not wish this treatment upon anybody. And yet, no apologies from the people who work there. Rude, rude, rude.

If your feeling really lazy, a service wash is glorious. We did a months worth service wash for £15.90 and with a wash and dry costing around 2 quid in electricity plus the powder plus the machine costs, for the sheer bulk you can get done, I think its worth it. Also, I like the fact that its all done in one big go, none of this unloading and loading again. If I did have a big family, I can't imagine anything more convenient than doing one giant wash off. And if you live alone, just go once a month, means you will have to get lots more clothes to last you, which is always a good thing.

I recommend using the Bramber House Laundrette during the early morning hours. It opens at 8:30am,…read moreand nearly every machine is free for the first hour and a bit...Afterwards, it may be difficult to find a prime seating spot (one where you can see when your machine's 'Add Softener' light turns on.) Washers take £3 and driers are £1 per 30 minutes. I can usually do a full load on £4 total. The laundrette does offer a drop off service, if you'd rather not sit and wait around. For £6, your laundry is washed, dried and very professionally folded. A nice treat, although the hours of pick-up and drop-off are fairly rigid. Though a couple of magazines are strewn about, it's definitely a bring-your-own-entertainment type venue. There are a few outlets for those with laptops, or a book is always an easy choice. Also helpful: there are small boxes of laundry soap and softener on sale for 70p each, in case you forget, and the laundrette is just a few steps away from the Bramber Coffee House.

I never had any problems using this little launderette on campus. Maybe times have changed and…read moremore students are using it these days, but I found it a nice place to sit and chill for an hour or so while my washing was...you know, washing. Admittedly it is not the best place to do your reading, what with the whirring noises and everything, but I always like the way people tried! I did it too. I'd sit there poised, with reading on lap and highlighter in hand...and then I'd inevitably get distracted, checking out other people's washing, or eavesdropping on their conversations! So maybe this launderette is best used as place to sit and natter while you do your washing! The location is convenient- right in the middle of all of the residences (except Stanmer, who have their own launderette anyway!). If you're trusting you can sit outside and wait, but beware of people who impatiently shove your wet clothing on the floor, to get to your machine!! It might well happen...

I will admit I tried to put off coming here for as long as possible, I didn't want to pay to wash my clothes. But I've ran out of everything I had to wear so here I am! I'm not sure whether it's a bargain in terms of price, but to use a 7.5kg load machine it's £4.80. Cycle take 30 mins. The massive dryers are 20p per 2 mins or £1 for 10, which is good as they are huge and get super hot so you can put loads of clothes in. The lady who works here greeted me in a friendly manner when I arrived, then the gentleman that works here let me use the 'staff only' dryer when my washing was finished as all the other dryers were in use. How kind! I'll probably be here a few times over the next few weeks.

Though not as exciting as pubs, clubs and restaurants, laundrettes are a common sight in Brighton and Hove. This is due to the large number of flat conversions, which are often without plumbing for washing machines. Alas, a laundrette is a necessity. Bubbles is nothing unique in terms of price (£4.20 per machine cycle - around £1-2 for drying) but it does benefit from a constant attendant on site, which means you can ask for assistance when needed and also feel comfortable leaving your clothes in the machine if you need to pop next door to the shop. Bubbles also offers service washes and has decent opening hours, which means you can feel safe in the knowledge that there'll always be time to keep your clothes smelling fine.
