Had car in for suspension service, after initial book-in there was no communication for 48 hours after repeated voicemails left. Had to go down in person just to get any sort of update. Wife went in for a test drive and wanted leave when they started the high pressure sales tactics, but she agreed to view the finance options. Weirdly enough she required a deposit to see the finance options - it was a four thousand dollar deposit. Similar to another review here, the deposit was non refundable due to their excuse "Oh but we had to take the add down so that's lost revenue." Since they had us hooped for the four thousand, we got the vehicle. It had issues. No windshield washer fluid cap and the door alarm beeping while driving. When I phoned about it they said they'd cover the cost of the parts but we'd have to pay labor. The product you sold us didn't even work, and you're acting like your doing us a good deed. I wanted to exchange the vehicle as they had suckered us in to the "St James Advantage - No hassle exchange within seven days!". Turns out that's bull, as it is a hassle to exchange the vehicle. They gave us some crap about "Oh it won't be a direct exchange we have to put the ad back up yada-yada". So even though we paid for the "St James Advantage" (which cost $1200) for NO HASSLE exchange, we got hassle. Manager of the dealership was rude and terrible to deal with and is the type of person that gives dealerships a bad rap. It's amazing shady operations like this are in business. I bought a Audi Q3 2016 for $19,000 not even three months ago and they said it had an oil change when I bought it. I didn't buy it with warranty because of course the warranty that they advertise does not cover a 2016 car apparently they tell you that right before you buy it that only covers 2018 up. so, of course I bought the car and there was some ticking after about a month and I didn't even think it could possibly be the oil until the oil low light came on after 658 km and now they won't even take a look to see if it's leaking even though I don't have a warranty I'd say that's pretty bad service. I wouldn't buy used or a new car here anymore just because they're nice doesn't mean that they're reliable. The service department is supposed to be horrible anyway so I'll take it somewhere else but if it's something major they should be accountable for what they've done they shouldn't be allowed to sell lemons. If my car is leaking now, it was leaking then so I'm taking it to a dealer this week and then we'll find out what's wrong with it hopefully it but we'll see. They definitely knew about it from their reactions. read more

I was dealing with Mariana. She's a really nice and cooperating sales person. Explained everything and went above and beyond. They asked me for a $1000 deposit. Which I made(with even asking if it was negotiable) where as it's their job to ensure to take a deposit from customer which is not a big chunk. I selected a car and agreed to the pricing they offerred. But things changed first I had some personal issues coming up due to which I had to change my mind. Plus If I was looking at a new vehicle. It was costing me around same money. Long story short, they refused to gave me my deposit back. I was dealing with their Sales Manager, he declined it by giving an excuse that they have to remove the car from the listing, they already ordered parts for remote control( which I asked them to install in car). $1000 is a lot of money for a deposit and if it is non-refundable they need to mention before proceeding with transaction and situations change and people change their mind. I found manager to be rude and least cooperative. Whereas experience with Mariana and Finance Manager Leo was good so far. When I asked them for the deposit refund they clearly declined by giving an excuse they installed the remote start or ordered parts. Whereas no where in transaction I was being mentioned that it is not refundable and I think it's their job to charge least amount of deposit from consumers as I just realized deposits are non-negotiable. I want their management to look up to this issue and find me a solution. read more

In 2015 I bought my first car from this dealership and I was pretty happy with everything. I had no problems and never felt like I was being sold in one direction or another. The people were great and I recommended a few friends/family to go here to buy their next car. Last summer I was interested in selling my car and I decided to check in with St James VW to see what they would offer. Well not only did they really lowball and made it seem like they were doing me a favour, but after I told them it was way to low and clearly not a viable offer - the salesman began to tell me how "they would be lucky if they made $500 off my car on the resale". A month later I got a call from the a manager admitting that they had indeed lowballed me quite a bit, but that they would actually sell the car for around $1500 more than they claimed - meaning they would be profiting much more than they had expressed to me. Now, don't get me wrong - there is absolutely nothing wrong with making money. But when I called them out on it and demanded a fair price, they didn't even bother to respond. The floor manager and the salesman who I was talking with were just so dishonest and sleazy about the whole experience, I am forever turned off from this dealership. They left such a bad taste in my mouth. I wish it was different because before all of this, I actually really enjoyed this place. read more

In my 40 years of driving experience, I have never met car dealers who so closely live up to their bad reputation. If you enjoy super high pressure and manipulation, being bombarded with unwanted emails, phone calls and texts even after Unsubscribing and telling them to stop---contact St. James Volkswagen. They actually used an alternate phone number to bypass my blocks! One time, they did a hangup. It took two notices telling them I was calling police for harrassment, to get them to leave me alone. It got to the point of being scary. Two salesmen contacted me SIX TIMES IN ONE DAY. All uselessly, because while they have the energy to harass, they are too self absorbed to provide a link to the vehicle. Or even a description. I didn't even know which car they were talking about! They apparently think a customer inquires about one car we see on the Net, then sit back and wait for them. They are very special, you know. Honest to God, they sent me a photo of a lump under a tablecloth AND then their dealership logo several times in reference to "the vehicle." When I finally figured out which vehicle, it was too bad. It was the one I most preferred in my searches. But there is no way I would buy from St. James Volkswagen. My God, if they behave this way now, I'd be afraid to meet them. I had a $500.00 gift card from the TDI scandal. St James Volkswagen contacted me and offered to cash the card and issue a in house credit as the card had an expiry date. I tried to use it today only to be told it had expired and was no longer available, a letter stating that had been sent out several months earlier. I really enjoyed the service I received at St. James VW. Plus, I don't give out 5 stars that often in my reviews so this place obviously impressed me. The service was knowledgeable, laid back, friendly and above all professional. I know a lot of companies claim that but many do not follow through. I never felt pressured to buy anything so they get top marks for that. They wanted my business but they didn't hassle me - very fine line but they achieved it. From beginning to end, I had a great car buying experience here and I am loving my new VW!!!! Hello, German engineering! I worked with Bryan R. and would definitely recommend him. My friend also bought a car from here and had a great experience with another sales person though I can't remember the name of that guy. I think St. James has a pretty good rep as friends and coworkers all seemed to direct me to St. James over Autohaus. Btw, this place has a car rental agency as well - never knew that but my friend rented from here and said the rates were reasonable. Dealing with St. James Volkswagen/St James Audi has always been difficult and disappointing but this time it is just that much worse...It goes all the way up to the top. I'm probably going to have to call Visa now to dispute a claim since the dealership won't do the right thing and issue me a refund that I requested last week. Background: I recently bought out my car after the lease ran out. I wanted extended warranty so I spoke with Mike, the finance manager. He told me I had to get an inspection done in order to get a warranty on my car so I went through that process. I asked what the cost of the warranty was and he showed me different prices. He explained that if I bought a warranty, I wouldn't have to pay for the inspection and I agreed since I was certain that I would buy the warranty he showed me. After the inspection, the price of the warranty quoted was nearly $1000 higher than the price he quoted the time before! I asked him why the price he quoted was no longer available and he said it is what it is - if I didn't like it, I could just pay $230 for the inspection I didn't need without the warranty! I didn't have any options at the time so I bought the warranty and decided to shop around; the warranty had a 60 day cancellation window. I found much better prices online and found out that the warranty Audi sells is from a 3rd party anyways so you're always better off going to those companies directly instead of through Audi. I called Mike to cancel the warranty but he refused unless I paid for the inspection. I reminded him that he had failed to honour the price he quoted so it wasn't fair to expect me to hold up my end of the deal either. I asked to speak with the manager of the dealership but Mike said the general manager was too busy and didn't forward my request. I waited until later that day and tried calling the switchboard and asking for the manager myself. Mark was transferred to the call in less than 20 seconds. I explained to Mark the experience I recently had with Mike (it's never been good but this time was undeniably rotten). I also let him know about how I had been frequently disappointed with the dealership over the past and was Mark seemed to take my feedback to heart (and it wasn't all bad, there were a few people who definitely stood out there as exceptional) and said he would take care of things for me. When he called me back, however, he was demanding now that I paid for the dealership cost of the inspection - $160 so he wouldn't be out of pocket for the ordeal...pardon me? I have to pay for his finance manager's deceitful behaviour so he can break even?! It's also very difficult to believe that he paid $160 to his staff for an inspection - I'm guessing he is charging me the rate for his garage and still making a profit from the problem his staff caused. I can't believe, after hearing that his manager was playing sneaky games to increase his commission and denying me the right to speak to the owner, the most important thing on his mind was his out of pocket expense for the inspection I was duped into having. At no time did Mark even offer me the original price of the warranty that I was quoted either. If any of my staff told a customer that the couldn't speak to me, that would be grounds for immediate dismissal - that is completely unacceptable. Mark finally agreed to refund the warranty after I told him I could just call Visa and have it done anyways since they were violating the terms of the agreement - not great customer service, making me fight for a basic right, but I was happy to at least get my money back...only he didn't refund the warranty! He took my info down and it still hasn't posted to my account. I waited a couple of days and decided to call back. He didn't return my call so I called again and now he is out of town for over a week and Mike, the finance manager said he wasn't told anything about the situation so he's not going to refund it either. It's unfortunate that they care so little about customers. I'm definitely going to be buying more cars in the future so now they are inadvertently giving up all of that business! Why don't companies realize it's on their repeat business where they become established? If you need a Volkswagen, go to Autohaus on Pembina. St James has terrible management and they don't stand up for their customers. I know it's not the end of the world and it's not going to ruin my day, I'm just surprised by companies that don't understand that bad customer service is so detrimental to their business. I hope that they take heed and pay closer attention to the feedback they receive from so-called "valued customers". I will also post a follow up if they do anything to change my opinion of them. [FYI - I've been a longstanding customer at St James being responsible for the purchase of 6 vehicles through them over the past 13 years. Service is truly terrible. Especially Monty . He is one of the rudest people I have dealt with. I have had had nothing but issues with my vehicle and unfortunately had to deal with service as too often. I live 200 km from the dealership so each time I have to get service I have to take an entire day off of work to drop it off. I have had to take so much holiday time off for service. After almost weekly calls that I had to take my car in for inspection, I made an appointment to take it in. My wife and I booked a day off and took the car in, I was met by Monty which the first thing he said was there was only one person allowed in due to Covid restrictions and if there was an issue I could reschedule an appointment (take another day each of precious holiday time each). I said it was okay but I would need a shuttle for us. He told me they couldn't shuttle both of us. I had to cancel the appointment and waste, yet again, 2 holiday days and 4 hours of driving. They never mentioned anything about only one person when I booked the appointment. What a terrible service department, and overall owner's experience. The service manager Ron is good though. Would like to rate with 0 stars. Interaction with service department just cost them the sale of a new VW. Explained the issue I have been having with my VW since new and has been reported twice to other VW service centres. Explained that I was driving across country and needed service asap, rep was rude and carefree about my issue and said the soonest appointment to even look at the issue was in 10 days. Told him that this interaction would cost my business with them and would not be buying another VW, he did not care and hung up the phone. Took my Tiguan 2013 to fix, finding out that I needed 7000 worth of work.... considering trading the car the sales associate wanted to give me a 1000 dollars ! Yes only a 1000 dollars and the car has only 130k . Same cars are selling for about 12-14k and with all the work needed to be done there was still 7000 worth that was just not considered. I feel insulted and they just wanted to take advantage and make money. I'm sorry but I don't recommend to buy used cars from Volkswagen in Winnipeg... and I don't feel like I would like to buy want to buy a Volkswagen in general... I have bought 2 cars. Same experience... even my older one they gave me 3000 for it , a golf. When I mentioned that the sales manager at st. James just said oh I can give you 3000! Lol people need to be aware, specially international people that are being taken advantage of... my husband and I will be purchasing new vehicle but won't be from them! read more

I would not buy another vehicle from St James VW under any circumstances. Their Service Dept is totally incompetent and not at all interested in what the customer really thinks. They require an appointment for an oil change and want the car for 4 hours, and this is totally unaceptable, especailly for people who live out of town. I tried last week to get in contact with a Service writer and was told they only had one working and he was serviceing 3 customers, no offer for a return call and would not transfer me to anyone who who could tell me if the current problem I had was serious enough to continue driving. I talked to the Salesmen (Guy Delise) who is very good on his follow up and he passed my concern off to the Service Manager who took 4 1/2 hours to get back to me. Shows his concern for "Customer Service" I took a chance and drove home and it all turned out ok but this is the final straw in a long line of "screw ups" ONe time they said my 09 Jetta wagon needed a computer update and 5 days later and two shipments from Mexico they decided it did not need the update after all. This thing is not even off warranty and it will be traded off asap. I called the other VW dealer and got right through to a CSR person immediately who gave me the info I needed and an appointment (at my convience) to do a check on the car before the warranty runs out and from there it is going to another manufacturers (anyone) to be traded off. Took my 2008 GTI to St James VW to get looked at. It had a problem stuttering and power loss while accelerating. The service dept. couldn't find anything wrong with the car but suggested I do the DSG and Engine oil changes. DSG was $400.00 and Regular was $130.00. After the changes were done there was no difference as the car still stuttered and suffered power loss. I took the car to Euro Mart on Salter St and they found my turbo was missing bolts and was leaking boost. St James VW was absolutely incompetent and clearly came off as trying to take advantage of me charging me for a service I did not need (The DSG I did need). Stay away from this place! read more
