Just thinking about this place gets me wistful and misty eyed. Three years of raucous teenage living were spent here.
- Mr. Hanrahan's math classes in the newly installed outside portable, which was pretty much the epitome of lawlessness, the poor man quite unable to control any of us. His car (which we believed he called home) was taken for a joyride by a student.
- Mike leaving his chicken lunch in his locker for three weeks resulted in a biohazardous hallway, and his later sabotage of a secret compartment in the gym is yet to be found a decade later, as far as we know!
- Hiding inside the school from the Troll during recess. Pretty sure her vehement patrolling the halls was to keep students from discovering the excessive use of cocaine in the teacher's lounge. Or not.
- The joyous seeds of rock band dreaming, using Mr. Melling's music room to play Metallica and Megadeth and Silverchair after school. He will forever be our mentor!
- Spring mornings with the home ec. room's door open to offset the crushing inanity of the class.
- Cutting class to go see Godzilla in 1998 (I know, but we were not discerning cineastes like today), then leaving after our triumphant Grade 9 talent show (Offspring's "Pretty Fly for a White Guy", "With Or Without You") to watch The Matrix. History is born!
- The glory that is Mr. Dawood!
- Our then-feared illnesses from asbestos nearly validated by the subsequent deaths of three teachers since we graduated.
- Grad party at Lake Bonavista, later grad party at some house. Aah, youth!
That said, the school is a window-less pit, where students moved in one direction between classes. I would still like to return and see the Class of '99 poster, and reminisce about good days. read more
