There's ample parking with a ramp from the parking lot to the sidewalk/entrance. The congregation is bigger than I thought it would be from the outside, maybe around 50-75 people. There were a good number of children with a wide age range. After the worship, the children went to Sunday School, I enjoyed the bluegrassy worship music. Everyone has their own sermon preference. It seems like there are two pastors. The younger pastor gave the sermon. It was on Paul's advice for how to live, specifically examining Philippians 3. Everything is wheelchair accessible, including the restrooms that have a spacious accessible stall. The worship area is also accessible with detachable single seats, which I prefer to permanent seats that cannot be moved for wheelchairs. They even had chairs already removed for wheelchairs on both sides of the back rows. I can't remember if there were parking spaces specifically designed for people with disabilities, although it could have been hidden by the snow. They did do a good job at clearing the snow, but some spaces had some icy snow. The parking spaces directly in front of the door and ramp were all open, even though we came literally a few seconds before the service started. The people generally seemed nice. They had a reception after the service with snacks, tea, and coffee. It was a nice time for the kids to run around and for the adults to mingle. I can't speak on Fierce Church as I have never attend there. I do not know the paster or his wife, or the other leaders of the church. I will say after moving many times one thing that I do notice is you can tell a lot form a church by there website and there social media. Seeing an active Mens and Women's is very important next is a good kids ministry , and a college ministry as well. There are lot of church that forget that group and that is when a lot of young adults need the extra college group that can help as they transition into adulthood and are balancing school, work, and keeping a relationship with Christ. Titles are also very import as the bible speaks on this and as Christians we need to hold churches accountable and speak the truth in love and kindness. I have seen that on there leadership page that they have women listed as pastors, "A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet" (1 Timothy 2:11-12). I have seen women that are in charge of kids/Teens use the name director or ministry leader instead of a pastor. As I have said I can not speak on there sermons as I have not attend with the New Pastor but just seeing this issue on the leadership I am not one to jump to visit this new church.

I have been attending Torch of Faith since July 2012 (back in the days when Torch was at the Regal…read moreCinema). Prior to attending this church, I've tried other churches and just never felt connected. The very first service I went I felt welcomed and Pastor Carter's message was spot on with what I needed to hear. Since then, I have given my life to Christ, been baptized and have made real friends, friends that have helped me go through life's trials. I wish I could scream from the rooftops how much I love this church and how it has helped me discover who Jesus is. If you're looking for a church that will accept you for who are are, have sermons that you can understand and apply it to every day life AND has an amazing place for kids to go, I encourage you to try Torch of Faith.

Two services on Sunday offers some flexibility with your schedule. Worship is contemporary and has some variety in instrumentation, worship leaders, and occasional choirs. Still, the worship is primarily piano-driven. Lakeland offers a chance to meet with the pastor or an elder right after the service (not exactly weekly, but often enough). We waited several weeks before attending one of these "Meet Lakeland" lunches, ourselves. They serve lunch and take time to get to know you while helping you learn more about the church, it's roots, available ministries, serving opportunities, etc. My wife and I believe it is important to serve in church. There are opportunities around every corner--women's ministry, men's ministry, children's ministry, community events, service projects, outreach, and more. It is easy to "plug in" and get involved. There is an emphasis on home Bible studies, and we would highly recommend finding one. We joined a group that meets on a weekly basis, ranging from 10-20 attendees. We always have a wonderful time of fellowship and sharing. There are other things to consider: worship nights, where they combine with other area churches; an excellent Alpha program for new believers; an annual "county fair" with a massive box maze that fills a gymnasium (it has to be seen to be believed); financial seminars; open mic nights; a movie discussion group that meets on a monthly basis to watch and discuss current movies; concerts; and so much more--seriously! They also have a prayer room in an offsite location where you can sign up to go alone or with a group to have a quiet time. Our young-adult daughter was attending another church. After visiting several times with us, she decided to make Lakeland her home. She got involved with the young adult's ministry and has never looked back. She has made many close friends, is growing in her relationship with the Lord, and is loving life. BOTTOM LINE: Lakeland Church is welcoming and casual, has excellent teaching, is family-oriented, and has plenty of ministries and ways to get involved. Highly recommended! Come for a visit...or two...or three...or... (you get the idea!).
