Students are taught so well in Spanish, that they will be fluent or at least nearly fluent upon completion of this course. It is also great that the class sizes are small (usually fewer than 20 students per class) which enhances learning. The teachers genuinely care about the students' education. One of the greatest strengths of this school are their peers. It is clear that the other students have parents that care about their child's education which encourages the students to come to school ready to learn. The school is also very firm about bully prevention. Overall, we were very happy with this school. BI

Sure they are fairly new and from time to time may have a hiccup but so does other schools. I found the teachers are very educated and diverse. The class sizes are good and they offer after school help for students who need to get caught up. My child is not even in high-school yet and is taking courses I took in college. It is very fast pace learning environment so kids will need to be strong in education thus the entrance exam. I understand everyone has a different experience but in the area of education, qualifications, and communication they are top class. Because they are new, they do not have athletic sports yet, but this school is about a STEM education not athletics. If you are looking for athletes or athletic scholarships keep looking but if you want a college prep and quality education for your child then check them out.

The New Century School is a great concept but is hampered by the admissions office…read more The school grounds is spacious for city standards. The separate gym building provides space for birthday parties. They have a indoor climbing apparatus (a somewhat dangerous one), bounce house, and large gym blocks. The space is open and a good size space for birthday parties for smaller kids. For the school itself, the main flaw is the New Century admissions process. It lacks structure, there is one person in charge. The person in charge, DS, is "disingenuous" as described by the first review. Since she alone runs the visits, the applicants are selected based off of her own personal evaluations and thus, her preferences and biases. Determining which 1-2 year old is more qualified than the next seems like a great skill, until its clear she does not look below the surface. Great space for a school, needs new administration, and the administration needs oversight.

The kids spend a ton of time outside which is fantastic for little brains and bodies! As a teacher, I was impressed with the solid foundational skills my daughter received in her early years (2-5yo). That's why we are going back! Advice: Not every school is for every kid. Find the place you are comfortable with and that matches your style of parenting. Ask to visit places you're interested in and sit in the rooms.

Horrible LIterally…read moreone of the worst middle schools I've ever been to. Lansdowne middle school does not care about the students there, nor what happens at that school. The students there are blatantly disrespectful to not only other peers but the teachers as well, every period the students were out of control, yelling at each other, yelling at the teachers and never doing their work. The students there never listen to any instructions that are told and it makes it hard to learn when people refuse to follow simple instructions. Students are not disciplined at this school so students feel the need to do or say whatever they want with no consequence. Another huge problem at this school is that if you bring light to certain situations such as bullying, catcalling and sexual/physical assault they don't care. They'll bring more sympathy to the attacker rather than the victim of the situation. They are also sexist, they will watch a girl get assaulted and when the girl fights back in defense she gets in trouble instead of the boy who attacked her. Teachers will see someone get assaulted and won't report it. Schools also don't care about the staff that work there. My sister worked in my middle school as a teacher's assistant and got treated horribly by the students, specifically the 8th graders who don't care about being disrespectful. Not only was she treated like crap by staff but was also catcalled and sexually harrassed by boys in that school, when she brought light to the school they said they "couldn't" do anything because it wasn't on school grounds even though it wasn't even far from the school, it was literally near the school, but when a fight happens that's not on school grounds they'll suspend the students without no hesitation. Bullying is also a big problem in this school, a lot of kids get bullied for no reason and nothing is done about it. They claim they'll "handle" the situation but they never do,they just pretend like nothing ever happened and move on. I got bullied so bad I had to switch schools near the end of the school year because they continue to do nothing. The school also feels like a jail. There are no windows, just a brick school with no light except from lamps, no sunlight no nothing. This school also allows anyone to be a substitute teacher, it's like they don't even interview people, they'll just hire people just for the sake of having a substitute in the school. The substitutes there are just so unprofessional. Many substitutes would be racist with using racist remarks and micro-aggressions towards students of color, yelling at students for no reason, cursing and being on the phone the whole period and not even paying attention to the students, just being unprofessional the whole time they're there just to get a check. Can't forget that the middle and high school allows a child predator to be a math teacher and teach minors who sexually abused an actor in 1992. Even with the school being fully aware of it they don't do anything about it. Many students have complained about this teacher and how they're uncomfortable with having him as a teacher knowing his history of being a child predator but the school continues to sympathize with him. Even with proof they continue to put their students in danger by allowing criminals in the school, this shows that the school doesn't care about the safety of their students and even staff. This school is literally one of the worst schools that you can ever allow your child to attend.
