I am so happy with our choice- all the teachers genuinely care about the students, and are very well matched at each grade level. Since it's only 2s, 3s, and 4s, it's a small environment where everyone gets to know one another. They have music class each week and do lots of nice projects and activities. Honestly cannot day enough good things! If I HAD to find a negative, the school day for the 2 year olds is 9:00-11:15, which is age appropriate, but goes by very quickly if you are running errands, etc.

We did that and he qualified for some help. The day we found out he qualified for early intervention we told The Clifton Little School. The very next day we got a letter in his cubby to set up a meeting. The director "J", told me that he was a hazard and that they wanted him out of the school... he wasn't a hazard, he is active and not a robot. She made it sound like my son was a problem child and said he needed a "special school" that can handle him. Meanwhile the daily reports I got from his teacher where all good and positive. We found another school, a nice normal day care that just wants the best for the children in their school, it's the Allwood Play and Learn if anyone what's to know and they get 5 stars from me. The owner is absolutely involved, not just a check writer and she cares about our kids. The Clifton Little School was such a big let down for us, they know how to promote themselves with having Channel 12 News there for their Halloween Parade but what they don't tell anyone is their dirty secret that if your child needs a little extra help they will kick your child out of their school. My child isn't the only one this has happen to. Talking to the director of the school she makes it sound like they have a perfect school, they don't!! Don't take my word for it. I met Marcia Royce some years back when my girlfriend's children attended The Key Institute and I…read moreassisted her with transporting them. Last week I enrolled my son in the Key Institute and was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! Upon entering we were immediately taken aback by the intense smell of DOG. My son's allergies immediately started acting up and after I left, she told him to stop sniffing. Prior to agreeing to enrollment, Ms. Royce told me that all of her assistants had Masters Degrees. She said she would teach my son study skills as well as work with him on his math which is why he was there! My eighth grade son was "tutored" by a tenth grade student who did NOTHING with him. She had my son pull up his math work from school (which were already completed and had the answers) on his phone and he redid the problems. When I picked him up I asked her what grade she was in and she told me. I asked her how my son did with math and she responded, "good; he knew everything I gave him". Ms. Royce gave my son some papers to read about study skills while she interrupted him and told him random stories and yelled at the other student who was there. There were NO materials there and Ms. Royce actually asked me to purchase same from Barnes and Nobles to give to her so that she can use them with my son. Ms. Royce consistently called me by my son's name and asked my son, "and what is your name?" She told me one price prior to us going and a second price once we were there and yet a third price when I opened my wallet to pay her. She did not come downstairs until one of her Assistants went to get her and prior to that we heard her loudly talking baby talk ( I assumed to her dog as she told me she had one upstairs). As she made her way downstairs where we were she continued in that way of talking as she closed the door and told the dog to "stay there now". Ms. Royce made inappropriate comments and remarks to my son ( who is African American). She told him that he shouldn't eat sugar because it's bad for his brain, but that he should eat watermelon. She chuckled immediately after she made this comment. She told him that he should read books and she mentioned " like books about Martin Luther King". When my son shared that he wants to have a baseball career but he wants to complete college first, she remarked, "Just as long as you don't kneel during the National Anthem". When I paid her, she said she would give me my change when I returned to pick up my son. She did not, nor did she even mention owing me change. I know that she has had a very good reputation in the past but I just think it's time for her to hand over the reins. She definitely appears to be senile. When I called her to advise her that my son would not be returning and why, she confirmed all that she said to my son but said, "so what? What's wrong with that?". She told me that her Assistants with Masters Degrees no longer worked there and one passed away. According to her, the tenth grader was "temporary" and she knows a Teacher in the Yorktown School District who she could ask to come to the institute to teach my son. Ms. Royce did not remember talking the baby talk nor did she remember that her Assistant had to go upstairs to get her to come downstairs. She was adamant that she did so on her own and just as adamant that she wasn't talking baby talk. Ms. Royce really needs to consider either closing up shop or turning The Key Institute into capable hands because hers no longer are!

They had several teachers that were great throughout but a few of the new teachers were nothing but subpar. My daughter became ill one day and her teacher ignored her raised hand for 10 minutes before allowing her to go to the nurse... alone! The school is on the 4th floor... what if she fell. She mentioned she was not feeling well to the guidance counselor as well, who also sent her downstairs. They tried to call me but I missed the initial call. The nurse eventually told her she could either sit in the main office or return to class. Return to class?! The school is on the 4th floor! What happens if she falls?! She ended up having a virus and out for several days. I tried to call to complain and the parent coordinator lied about the principal leaving town. My husband ended up walking in without an appointment to find him there and made them talk to him. I also filed a 311 complaint. The algebra teacher was inexperienced and failed thesem of teaching.
