It's meant to be enclosed by private property that has tall grass. I personally feel more comfortable with my dog being fenced in on the off chance he sees or hears something and bolts. But my dog isn't under 20 lbs so that's a bummer. I suppose if no smaller pups are using it, that we could play in there until another pup comes.

I encountered some pretty nice humans here, as well as their pups. Enjoyed some nice conversations with strangers or just walked alone. So much space for dogs to run free. Water jugs were at both ends of the park but were both empty on all of our visits, so bring water for your furry friend. The rules say no digging, but there are some decent sized holes under the picnic tables where the dogs have tried to find a cool place to lay down. Lots of trees, well maintained, bags and buckets for doggy doo. On one occasion there were gunshots at a nearby shooting range that kind of spooked my pups so just be aware. Otherwise, our dogs were so excited to hop in the car and know they were coming here. You can also walk the trails, but it's a hike from the campground and our pup was tired out just walking to the park. Plenty of parking, though traffic can get heavy entering if arriving when the nearby dump opens.

First off, parking is a breeze and there are multiple entrances depending on the direction you are coming. Secondly, this DP is filled with water jugs and is fully stocked and reliant on patrons like you and volunteers to keep the grounds clean and running. Lastly, the entire space is massive with varying terrains ranging from sand to wood-chips to wooden docks to pavement to grass. The robust options for shade or sun are endless. We were able to see a wide variety of birds flying overhead on our most recent visit. I highly recommend Rice Creek Off-Leash DP to anyone with or without a dog. The grounds are absolutely stunning!!

This is a great park for dogs who love to run fast, like our corgi, or dogs who just like to sniff, pee on every blade of grass, and wander along. I love that the park is a fully fenced 4-acre hilly woodland place and even if a dog runs away, they can't get out and will find you eventually. There's no open or standing water, so your pooch won't get wet and stinky for your ride home. Spring and fall are my favorite times here because these woods get buggy in summer; that's when I switch to the park on Flying Cloud. It's smaller, just over an acre, but more open (wear sunscreen!) and there is agility equipment for both the large dog side and the little dog side. It's hilarious to watch my doxie "leap" over the 4" hurdle!

What is nice is that there is enough space for the owner to get some exercise in too. Instead of sitting on a bench or staring at your dog, you can actually go for nice loop around the park. There is also a variety in terrain in the park. There is a nice wooded section and a nice little open meadow type area. It is nice too because it is so large your dog doesn't feel cramped. Even when it is busy your dog has plenty of space to make itself comfortable. Our dog needs some time to warm up and play, and small dog parks could be overwhelming. Here though there is plenty of room for her to feel not cornered. The park is very well maintained too. People did a great job of cleaning up after their dogs and there is a lot of water stops. 98/100

And most of the people and dogs are super friendly…read more I had a couple of wonky experiences...I don't recommend this park for small dogs that don't play well with any other dog or doesn't play well with big dogs. There are A LOT of big dogs that visit here and there's no designated area for small dogs. If your dog is aggressive (big or small), also not a good spot to bring your dog. I've had one small dog that ran up to me and tried to bite my ankles. And another small pooch that didn't want to play and tried to bite my dog. Not cool and not the right place for your dog.

It's 27 (roughly) acres, all fenced in of tall grass, trees, some water, and walking trails. My dog and I used to spend hours here, it was a sanity saver when she was a puppy, bring her here in the morning for an hour or two and she'd be good and worn out so I could actually get something done in the afternoon. So details about the park, it does cost money, $5/day or $35/year. The year runs out on Dec 31. If you buy a $35 pass Dec 30, you'll need to get a new Jan 1. That said, you pay to *park* there. So if you walk in, it's free. There's a parking lot just down the hill for the bike paths, it's tiny, but it'll fit a few cars. Park there, walk up the hill to the park, and it's free! Do not, I repeat, do not get caught parking in the dog park lot without a permit. It is a *huge* fine, like over $100 fine (luckily I do not know this from personal experience, but from others who got caught). And it is pretty regularly checked for non-permit cars. There is a small dog section of the park that people are picky about being for small dogs, but it is rarely used. There are also free bags at the entrance, and unfortunately it's where the only garbage can is too. So sometimes there's issues of people not picking up the poop on the other end of the park because they don't want to carry it back to the entrance. The regulars are super nice and I met many good friends this way, as did my dog. If you go a mile further down the road from the dog park you'll find Lake Zumbra, which is a public boat access. Dogs are welcome, but must be leashed. The park ranger regularly patrols down here too to make sure dogs are actually leashed. I would just go swimming with my dog, we both loved it. Often I would leave the leash on her, but not always hold it, if you hear a truck coming down the dirt road, grab the leash and pretend like you've always been holding it. (shh)

We checked out the large dog park and my understanding is that there is a smaller one next door. Both parks contain agility courses should your dog enjoy that and it's also what makes this park unique. In addition, there is a large common space with a gazebo type shelter for owners to sit and free water for the doggies. Down the hill you will find two paths where one leads to water (don't worry dogs can't get in as there is a fence) and a giant uphill climb and the other is a more flat circular loop. I enjoyed all the wildlife, the greenery and the open space. My doggies enjoyed it too! Parking is excellent!

In 2025, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency reported lead levels exceeding the federal air-quality standard in January, February, and March. (MPCA report and monitoring data⁠) The dog park and its lake are adjacent to the industrial facility and its drainage infrastructure, raising reasonable questions about potential exposure to lead and other contaminants. The City of Eagan has conducted soil testing at Thresher Fields and the dog park, reporting lead levels of 25.0 and 27.1 mg/kg, respectively, which the city said were below the EPA's residential soil threshold for concern. (City of Eagan soil-testing update⁠) However, soil results from sampled locations do not establish the safety of every area of the park, the lake water, or lake sediment. I encourage dog owners to review the available data and ask whether the lake and surrounding drainage areas have been tested before deciding whether to let their dogs play or swim there.
