I thought Belfast's fashionistas would have chosen a more opulent venue but once I entered the Life Church i was blown away by what was on offer. Firstly the location is amazing, about a five minute walk from GV Street Station and opposite a car park it couldn't have been any more accessible if it tried. To get into life church you must first walk under an arch, today the arch was beautifully decorated with fairly lights creating a lovely ambiance on entry. Once inside the venue was much more spacious than I expected although the low roof and exposed beams make it a more intimate feeling. Today we were watching a presentation and the sound carried perfectly. I believe that Fashion week had decorated the venue, and they did a great job. This is somewhere I had previously not been but I am very impressed by what I have seen.

That said, I've established before that my middle name is indecisive, so I'm sure you're not surprised. Love it or loathe it, you have to admit that the Tabernacle is totally breathtaking, and for me, it was incredibly overwhelming... Imagine five dozy teens jammed into the one car, speeding up the motorway, desperately trying to find the turnoff a mere five minutes before the church service begins. [And blast...we missed it.] Cue elaborate plan to somehow get us all back on track towards our destination. The now sweaty, agitated teens manage to somehow evaluate the situation agreeably, and eventually land in the church car park, fifteen minutes late. All of a fluster, the five teens leap out of the car and make a mad dash for the church building. (To say that the Tabernacle is humongous is really an understatement. I've never seen anything quite like it.) People are still rapidly coming in in their droves - unequivocal mayhem. Front foyer is incredible, and the massive gold fountain in the front foyer is really far too elaborate, representing the extent of the church's extravagant ornateness. Welcomed by a series of ushers, the five teens are quickly introduced to their seats on the balcony, staring in awe at the numerous people around them and on the floor below. The choir is magnificent; the band play well; the preacher is all 'hell, fire and damnation', and exceedingly scary; communion is passed around in an elaborate bowl and cup holder, and the service is over. That's honestly how it felt, so overwhelmed was I by the whole experience. The visit was not a negative one, but I am absolutely certain I could not attend Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle every week. It is far too extensive and formidable for my liking. Beautiful church though, and an experience that I didn't forget in a hurry, and one you should try.

I'm not a church goer, but I would be sorely tempted to attend the Sunday service at Donegore. I…read morehad such an amazing day here recently. On a little day of exploration excursions I happened across this beautiful old church on a sunny afternoon. I've talked before about how there's something intriguing about graveyards, so it was to my delight there were some fascinating headstones here. I noticed a heartbreaking stone in memory of a young sailor (David Atcheson 914-382 fire man who died age 22 on 26th March 1920 aboard the HMS Pembroke... I thought his memory should live on) Continuing on, I climbed the steps of the impressive looking plot of Samuel Ferguson, who I discovered was 'Keeper of Public Records' - a very important role back in those days as well as President of the Royal Irish Academy. After my curiosity was satisfied, I descended down the steps and was surprised to see a group of four people standing on the path, one of the group; an elderly man, enquired if I was interested in Ferguson, I admitted I was only having a nosy but the gent seemed disheartened so I decided to pry a little further asking about the mysterious man. Well, I was informed of his history and influence, a short life story if you will. It transpired the group were in the middle of a poetry reading of Ferguson's work (He was a poet/author/translator amongst other things) and I was invited to join their group. The gent briefly cleared his throat and began reciting one of Ferguson's odes. As he was doing so the two ladies of the group began to sing 'The Lark in the Air' (which Ferguson wrote!) Now, maybe you had to be there, but it was one of the purest moments I've ever experienced. I will never forget standing there at this mans grave, being read one of his poems and simultaneously being sung one of his songs, which was carried by the gentle breeze through the churchyard over the breathtaking Irish countryside all the way down to Lough Neagh. It was truly beyond words. After this amazing experience we carried on for a snoop around the grounds, as we did so we were greeted by the 'watchman' of the church who enquired if we would like a quick tour around. The whole place was so beautiful it was impossible to say no, so we were treated to our very own private tour of these ancient grounds. We learnt some incredible stories from this kind man; the site has been used as sacred ground since the 1300s! The current building has stood here since 1659 - that truly stands the test of time. The church features a number of stunning stained glass windows, which were utterly beautiful when the sunlight shone in from the Eastern window. The building has been kept exceptionally well, thanks partly to Lottery funding it received in 1996. We noticed an incredible hand painted and beautifully illustrated 'Donegore Roll of Honour' from WWI which featured a sadly long list of names. It was a very poignant moment. The whole building and grounds are a fascinating step back in time. It was a wonderful experience; thank heavens I was in the right place at the right time!

Actually, make that seriously Beaut, incredibly Stunning, and downright Impressive. Just wow. Tell me I've been reading too many Jane Austen novels (the hopeless romantic that I am), but Hillsborough Parish wouldn't look out of place in one of her tales as the sight of an upper-class wedding...ooh la la. This striking Georgian church lies upon a small hill, with the pathway leading up to it lined with leafy green trees, which even on a horribly wet day look so incredibly picturesque. My sister and I decided to take that grand walk up towards the church, both of us agreeing that it would be a perfect location to get hitched, and my sister imagining herself approaching it in a carriage, and stepping out in her beautiful white dress. Yes guys, we do speak of these things. Both of us desperately wanted to take a sneak peek, and the door was open, but with no-one around, the fear of uncertainty came over us, and we (sadly) did not get a chance to pop in. I can only imagine that the interior mirrors the remarkable beauty of the exterior. Walking back down the path, we noted the well-kept graveyard to our right, as well as the two entrance gates with their charming lodges further down. Every aspect of its location is simply charming. Stuff Austen, fairy-tales are where it's at, certainly for Hillsborough Parish anyway...
