For my 380th review I am literally Yelping to the high heavens, about St. Anne's Cathedral.
One of my most beloved pastimes is visiting places of worship both near and far, and this Anglican Church in Belfast stands as a shining example of why.
Thought, tradition, history, architecture and artwork converged in this effort to create this celebration of spiritualism. Our group of four were fortunate to have a very knowledgeable, docent give us an impromptu tour. Though the components of this cathedral are distinctive enough on their own to elicit awe and invoke inspection, we were able to get even more out of it this way.
For example, now we know that the baptism pool is done in black, red and white to symbolize the sin, blood and grace of the Holy redemptive process. Overlooking the church is gorgeous stained glass, and mosaic tiles each with an interesting narrative of their own.
From a historical perspective these pictures were so much more than decorative. Ordinarily, most people in the past weren't always literate so these pictures were how many people learned of God, as well as history.
From ceiling to floor, the place is absolutely inspiring! As a foreigner, from a different faith the weight of these visuals were evident, impacting and wholly moving to me. read more
