The chicken version also has leeks, while the beef seems to contain a root vegetable, either turnip or Swede, maybe? Regardless, they are both delicious. A friend tried the lamb and mint, reporting lovely flavor, but a bit of chewiness to the sparse meat tidbits, The Chough's treacle tart is very tasty, with bright flashes of lemon zest here and there to lighten the molasses top notes and sugary richness before it becomes overwhelming. The Bakewell tart is also very nice though it uses sliced almonds instead of the more traditional almond paste, which isn't to everyone's taste. Finally, we took some of the scones home to eat with piles of jam and clotted cream, and they proved up to the task, though otherwise unremarkable as scones always are.

The pasties are one of my favourite in Cornwall, and we were so impressed that at a recent party we order 30 pasties from here. Everyone seemed to be very pleased. The staff seem to be friendly and helpful when serving you. As well as pasties the other bakery products they sell are to a good standard. The shop doesn't seem to get really busy as the service is usually quite fast. I would recommend Portreath Bakery purely because of the great pasties they serve.
