Char means the number 4, so this place has 4 important Indian temple replicas in one place. Jagannath Temple (East): Dedicated to Lord Jagannath. Ramanathaswamy Temple (South): Dedicated to Lord Shiva. Dwarakadheesh Temple (West): Dedicated to Lord Krishna. Badrinath Temple (North): Dedicated to Lord Vishnu The actual Badrinath temple is located in a very difficult terrain. Due to its extreme conditions, it is open only 6 months in a year. Its not a journey anyone can undertake at short notice, requires extensive and proper planning, and, excellent health. So, this shrine is definitely unique and probably the only one outside of the country. The other 3 are important temples too, but not as hard to reach except that they are different corners of the country. the temple is open from 7:30 to 9:30AM, 6 to 9PM on all days except Fri and Sat. Fri and Sat timings: 9AM to 1PM, 5 to 9PM They have a canteen too which operates on weekends, but did not get a chance to try. An interesting place for the devout Hindus who can get the feel of the real temples so close to home in Houston. The temple has a huge garden and pathway laid out which makes it a pleasant place in more than one way. The pathways have directions which help go from one temple to the other in the order suggested. Not mandatory, just suggested. Operated by the SKAI foundation, it is not only a spiritual, but also a cultural center hosting besides daily worship - yoga classes, language lessons, and various Indian festivals Definitely worth a visit. Meenakshi temple canteen…read more A great huge temple built as close to an authentic South Indian grand place of worship, as possible. The main deity, as the name suggests, is Devi Meenakshi. Avoid during special Indian days if you like to avoid crowds (like me), or, make sure to head to the temple on Indian festivals to be a witness to all the splendor of shiny clothes, funfare, prayers, activities and a carnival like busy but happy atmosphere. A must visit for any South Indian theist. Dressing modest is mandatory. Canteen. A good variety of simple yet tasty food. Everything goes towards temple proceedings after basic wages are paid. (A lot of ladies and gentlemen volunteer too.) There is limited dining area, but between indoor and outdoor, and the constant flow of devotees moving in and out, it gets managed pretty well. The food is prepared fresh which in itself is a crowd puller and we never come away without a box of lemon rice and curd rice as a to-go.

The temple itself is spacious with well organized multiple manifestations of Devi Ma and Vishnu, as well as Shiv Parivar. It's very beautiful to see in person and is worth a visit at least once! If you are not familiar with Indian culture, please pay attention to the signs posted in the area so that you can be respectful while visiting. NO SHOES can be worn near the statue as it's considered disrespectful and unclean to wear shoes near god/in temples. Please be mindful of this and leave your shoes in the dedicated shoe storage area before stepping up close and personal to the statue. Also, be mindful of those who may be offering prayers while walking around the statue of Hanuman. Keep your voices low and refrain from using profanity with others in close proximity.

We worship at Sivakasi temple every Monday. Yesterday we took our milk and bananas offerings to the temple. The priest, Ganesh, knows us and expects us on Mondays. Sometimes, my wife's schedule does not let us go on Monday but when I can, I go the following day. One thing I must mention is that over the years my health has had me use a walking cane and stairs have become quite hard to climb. I use the little elevator if I can but sometimes request Ganesh to come to the car and take the offerings since the distance to the elevator from the parking lot becomes fatigue inducing. On those bad days, Ganesh helps out for which we are ever grateful.
