We were in the Yucatán for a week long vacation. My boss use to live in Merida and he said we had…read moreto go here if we were in the area. It was the first non-tourist place we ate. We started with the guacamole con chorizo y cerado. It was excellent. It might have been better than either of the entrees. I got the Lechon con frijoles negras. It's what my boss told me to get. It was good. I'm not sure it was worth a special trip but it was good. My wife is a bit of a picky eater. She wanted to play it safe so she got the Empanadas and a coke americano. The empanadas had a white sauce on them. I don't think it was cheese. It tasted like some kind of puréed yuca or potato. Everyone was drinking this green drink. It looked like a grass shot. I asked the server and they said it's called Agua de Chaya. They had a couple flavors so I got limon. It had a mild flavor. It was almost like a watered down fruit smoothie. The building was pretty neat. I think it was an old plantation house with several levels. There was a nice courtyard in the middle that most of the tables have a view. The courtyard has deer and peacocks wandering around. That was something I hadn't seen before. There was venison on the menu so it made me wonder.

The service was excellent. We came at 1 PM on a Tuesday and were done by 2 PM. The food was…read moreexcellent and I loved the inside decor of the restaurant. I read a previous review that it was hot and humid but o noticed that in the hallway by the restroom a only. The dining area was comfortable temperature wise. I would recommend this restaurant.

If you're looking for a place that serves the region's largest variety of taco options, this place…read moreis probably it. We had to visit multiple times to take in those options, and we can also say that their tortillas are among the best, namely because they are built to contain those fillings, unlike others that are simply not quite up to the task. Here are a few tips that we'd like to pass on from what we've learned: - The Lomitos offering is one of the best, bursting with flavor and smokiness. I think it's often overlooked, so definitely grab one of these. - The Lechon, Cochinita, and "Pork Belly" are all great, flavorful and juicy. You can't really go wrong with these, though the "Pork Belly" may not be what you expect, so read on. - The Castacan is the crunchy skin and pork belly that most Westerners think of, so if you're looking for that experience, this is your taco. - The Asado Yucateco (beef) is solid, but a little dry. Pork options are going to dominate it. - The artisanal cerveza is a great pairing with their tacos. If you are a beer snob, it's worth the extra cost. - We think you can pass on the queso fundido. It was more of a cheese blob than what we prefer in a fundido. Plenty of tacos to placate your hunger, so this can be a pass. - The light brown salsa is great, with excellent flavor. The small, dark brown salsa is a tongue-melter, so proceed with caution. I'm a pepper belly, but that salsa probably overwhelmed the great taco flavors, so just know that. Overall, a great place to get the variety and explore it. Seating was comfortable, and service was efficient, though not very chatty. They can get busy at times, which just speaks to the popularity of a well done taco. If you follow the given advice, you may have more of a 5-star experience. We had some of the misses, so you don't have to, though part of the fun is your own exploration. Buen gusto!

Now the food I think they did a good job at the simple dish I ordered, it was flavorful and it came with a side of romaine lettuce with a very yummy dressing Definitely a place to come with friends or your significant other to have an extended breakfast time

I was ok with the bread, instead of an English muffin, and was even open to the green Chaya sauce surrounding the eggs. (Just try not to think of Doctor Seuss.) However, the eggs were served almost raw with the whites slimy and just this side of salmonella. I sent them back and a few minutes later the waiter brought them, still uncooked, but more browned on top so, obviously, the kitchen just stuck them under the grill for a minute or two. Did not complain a second time, although I should have, and just ate some of the bread and the beef chunks served with it. Pointed out the uncooked egg whites to the waiter when he brought the bill in hopes that he would check with the manager and take them off our bill. Nope, so with my limited Spanish, I didn't even attempt to ask for this. My wife's omelet was "just ok". I guess the five star reviews must be for the pastries and the Yucatecan menu items. Love, Ku'uk, but we won't be back here.
