It's a great group of guys / gal who know how to give a quality haircut at a fair price. The shop has that old-fashioned neighborhood barber shop feel that's getting harder and harder to find. Walking in reminds me of the barber shop from The Andy Griffith Show--where everyone knows your name, the conversation is easy, and you're always made to feel welcome. It's laid back, comfortable, and just feels like home. If you're looking for a great haircut without all the fuss, along with friendly people who genuinely enjoy what they do, Hillcrest Barber Shop is the place to go. Good people, good prices, and consistently good haircuts. I highly recommend them. Roll Tide as they often say in the Barber shop.

It did…read moretake them several days to confirm the appointment by text, but the day and time I had chosen was confirmed by email and text. They also informed me by text that the appointment location had been moved to their new location on Cottage Hill Road. The Cottage Hill Road location is a four chair shop with partitions set up for an additional four chairs on the opposing side of the partitions. It's clean and clearly freshly remodeled on the interior. I was surprised to see only one parking space for the handicapped in the whole disappointedly small parking lot, and that space was occupied. On entering the shop I found no customers, and only my barber present, which indicated to me that it was his vehicle occupying that space. As a wheelchair bound person, it sure would have been nice to have been able to use that space closer to the door for my parking, instead of having to park on the other side of the building. Nevertheless, because it was my first visit to this establishment, I said nothing to Ali, my barber, deciding instead that the quality of my haircut was more important an issue at the moment. To that I can report that Ali did an excellent job. He cut my hair and trimmed my beard quickly, expertly and with remarkable skill and talent. His friendly demeanor capped the deal for me and despite the shortage of parking spaces for the handicapped, I decided that I will be back to allow Mo's Barbershop another opportunity and perhaps convince me to become a regular customer.

I understand that a haircut is kind of a sensitive thing, whether its for a date, or for a business…read moreevent or wedding, or simply because it's needed, a good a reliable haircut is essential to life. Also, I don't want to sit in some feminine looking salon where they attempt to sell me stuff I am not sure how or why it was even invented. Also, men like to feel and smell like men, this place takes the cake; what I mean is men I have found this place to be the place to go to for a haircut. First, I would like to spend some time about the shop itself. It's centrally located, on Royal Street near Dauphin so I just walk. If you happen to be driving, It has ample street parking, or if you need, theres a garage at the end of the block. Royal Barbers is impeccably clean and well maintained. It has that feel of the old fashioned barber shop your dad and grandfather went to with some modern touches which today's men would like to see in a barber shop. Its totally unassuming and completely come as you are, be prepared to laugh at the banter and be aware you may very well be sitting in a chair next to some of the cities elite. Next the experience, it is one of those places that has efficiency without sacrificing the comfort and satisfaction of the patrons. You walk in and the ladies will decide which one of them "wants" to cut your hair. They are always laughing and can keep up with men, meaning, they tease and banter with their clients. Ask some questions with regards to your needs and desires and then do what they can to make sure you get a great haircut and have an enjoyable experience. The haircuts are awesome and I feel fairly priced to make sure the job is done correctly. The experience of their shaves is impeccable; carefully manipulating the straight razor this young lady took her time, used warm towels and I wasn't nicked or left with a razor burn. The haircuts are extremely fair 18 bucks or you can have the shave and haircut for 35. Tip well men these two ladies have been a Mobile staple for 20 years and they will do an awesome job, 1 thing to remember they give as good as the get and its CASH ONLY. If you need an ATM there is one literally next door at bank of the Ozarks.

The sign just invites you into a place where you will feel very welcomed. I love going to barbershops. In my experience, the people at hair salons are reticent about cutting a woman's hair really short; whereas, the men at the barbershop have no problem with cutting, fading and lining at sista's head. No problem at all. This was the pleasant experience at this shop also. Terrinon (I hope I spelled it correctly), the owner and another barber were in the shop when I entered. Everyone greeted me at the owner asked me how may I help you? And he seemed really surprised when I said I wanted to cut. But he was probably surprised because my hair is already rather low from other peoples standards. And I sit in Teryan's chair and described what I wanted. He talked me through his process told me what he was going to do and also let me know that at each stage he would stop and ask me if everything is OK before he cut any further. I really like this communication, and I appreciated the transparency of his telling me his process before he took clippers to my hair. The conversation in the barbershop was jovial. There were a few TVs on sports information shows which is totally fine with me. I also really liked the signs that warned the customers to use no profanity in this establishment and to keep their children under control. I really liked the signs and the fact that the owner and the other barbers were adamant about keeping a nice clean family friendly establishment. I visit Mobile often. So I will keep this place in mind when I'm in Mobile and I need a cut.
