A few things where very clear in my discussion with Jon. 1st, he was extremely knowledgeable, I chatted with 4 people about the same issue and he was the only one who seemed to know the terms of the work needed and the cost and timelines in working with the city to complete the job. What a relief that all was to me in such a sensitive and crucial part of the transaction. 2nd, he was quick to respond. Not only did he call me back within the hour but he came out to the property to bid in my tight timeline super early in the morning so I could proceed with my transaction comfortably knowing exactly what to expect cost wise to bring the deck to code. 3rd, it was very clear that Jon cared about the quality of work that needed to be done and the accuracy of what he was preparing me for. I will add that with Jon in the mix we felt confident proceeding with the property acquisition and with Jon's guidance, will have him come out to complete the work when it warms up a bit and the ground isn't so hard. I found Handyman from Heaven via a referral service with my job and was so excited because I thought they would be able to help me with all the small issues I had throughout my home. The first visit went so well! I was able to get multiple things fixed and scheduled a larger job which was basically a bathroom Reno due to a leaking pipe. The work started off great and the team was really communicative. Then we ran into a small issue where I felt some work was improperly completed and wanted to work through it and that's where it all fell apart. The receptionist was extremely accusatory at first but did eventually call to apologize and I hoped things would be better. Once I talked to the owner he seemed really understanding and accommodating and even sent me a really thoughtful response as they were working though the issues with me so I had high hopes that we would fix the issue and continue on with the work, only they just stopped communicating with me completely. I would have fully understood if they came to a conclusion and explained to me why but they chose to do nothing and that was really disappointing. Now I have a half finished bathroom and construction debris that they left behind that I'm having to pay a new person to finish the work and clean up behind them. The worst part is I had already referred them to a friend of mine who needed some work done and had to go back and tell her, never mind because if you can't trust them with a minor inconvenience how can you trust them with a major job?! I will say if you just need some minor handyman work then go for it because it doesn't seem like my experience with them is their normal experience, but be leery and keep every record along the way.

First they sent out an Michael, who was unfamiliar with the type of rehab I was doing but tried to take notes and ask questions. He seemed to have an overall pleasant demeanor. Due to Michael's inexperience, Robb had to come out an view the property a few days later. Robb was supposed to be the expert on the type of renovation I was doing. Robb showed up 30 minutes late for my appointment, did not call or text to inform me that he would not be on time. The meeting was good and Robb did seem to be knowledgable. I asked him about the use of subs and he said that subs do all the work for him. I asked if he would be open to working with a sub that I had already hired and he said that he would. He explained to me that the company also offers Project Management services, so that I could use them as that instead of the full General Contractor. Robb then told me to expect an estimate by Wednesday of the next week, we met on a Friday. I wrote them an email a week after failing to receive the estimate on the Wednesday it was promised and was told that the only was they would work on my project was if they were the GC and used only their subs. Obviously this was different than what I was told in the meeting but I wanted to see the price that would be quoted to me. I agreed and asked for them to send me the estimate, which I still have not received. I would be leery of hiring them due to misleading claims. The refusal to work with other contractors is also concerning. I have a family member who does similar work and he said to never work with a GC who refuses to work with subs that aren't theirs, that is a huge red flag. Everyone is allowed their preference but that typically means the person/company is shady. I also had to chase them down to get any information on the estimate, so if hired I would probably have to chase them to do the work.

I called and left a couple of messages and never heard anything back. Getting an estimate didn't cost me anything but it was a waste of time waiting for a response. If the job was too small to be worth his time I'd totally understand, but if that was the case I wish he would have just said so.
