Chill place. Less homeless i observed to standby, some coffee vendors on area noted. Some pathways are not paved. Students, adults and geriatrics observed enjoying their leisure time.

OK, I'll admit. I'm giving a 5-star review to a park, of all places. Yet... this was scenic. There were houses (photo attached) of many colors. The square is historic. There's a fountain. There's a small coffee kiosk with munchies. I even saw a mother pigeon nesting in the hollow of a tree. it is a great place to relax, or walk, and just take in the scenery.

We happened on this stunning outdoor space walking from the metro to our chocolate restaurant. Pictures do not do it justice. I am a sucker for squares, and have always wanted to live on or near one. The homes in this area are beautiful. Folks were sitting and reading, laying on blankets, and picnicking on this warm summer day. Idyllic....except maybe the man urinating on one of the porches....a bit TMI! City life...

The Victorian chic of the streets & houses around Square Saint-Louis... They stand in the same line as San Francisco Painted Ladies. Emanating same charm as Punta Arena's Plaza Muñoz Gamero. Reminiscent in feel of open courtyards along Sienna river. ...You will hear your heart sing when you see colorful rooftops surrounding this square. Shades of the tall trees, urban sculptures dotted throughout park alleys, wooden benches warmed by the sun, and narrow streets around it - a symphony of colors and architecture. I spend quiet hours in the morning enjoying little warmth of winter sun, and long hours in many afternoons, walking streets around it with my little camera in hand. It is beautiful and peaceful. A retreat, a rest stop, an eye candy. A place to see, a place to remember.

I was very excited to visit the famous colored houses of Montreal but was disappointed to drive here and find that there really isn't much to see. The colored houses that you see in the post cards of Montreal are really only 4 brownstones on one side of the square. We came on a Thursday afternoon in December and the park was covered in snow. It was a tiny park and there wasn't much there besides a few benches and a fountain. It felt very residential rather than tourist-friendly. The colored houses themselves were blocked off with construction (as you can see in the photos). It was quite loud and the street was difficult to walk and drive on due to the trucks and other construction vehicles. It was thus hard to even get a clear photo of the street. There weren't even any plaques to read that described the historical significance of this place. Just really not worth the visit due to it being an average residential setting.

Carre St Louis or Square St Louis is my favourite park in Montreal. In any of the three seasons (minus winter as I never come here in the cold) it's absolutely idyllic! It's Montreal's version of Bryant Square park but much nicer! There is a very cool fountain in the middle and majestic old trees that provide shade and allow for cover from the sun! The houses that line the park speak to the old world architechtue that is quite prevalent and well kept in Montreal. I imagine in my mind many poets and artists living here but rather it's probably urban professionals. Unfortunately there are many sketchy characters (some homeless) and young individuals partaking in a toke of weed/pot or drink in the park which is rather unfortunate. It would be nicer (and safer feeling) without the seedy people. The pot people don't bother me it's the other individuals. However if you don't make eye contact they pretty much stay to themselves! This would make it a 5/5 for me if it was cleaned up but for some this is probably their home! I'd let my daughter roam freely if different however I keep her close by. Come stroll on a wonderful blue sky day or come as the leaves change Open your imagination and relax as you stroll through!

Everybody already saw this house right? it's cross from the park!

Small little cute beautiful park. Everybody who have ever checked "Montreal", you guys already know this park without knowing it. Check the photos I just put up. During winter, it's little hard to see how beautiful this park is but Spring to Fall, you have to come here and enjoy the view, houses around park, and little veggie vendor. The veggie vendor owner closes for winter but during the 3 other seasons, you can buy fresh Quebecois veggies and fruits. All very cheap and fresh. I saw many tourists took photos in front of the little stand..

Perfect little park and resting spot in the heart of Le Plateau-Mont-Royal surrounded by stately Victorian homes with beautiful, even whimsical features that evoke a sense of joie de vivre.

    Gorgeous homes line the park.

I've been to Montreal twice now, and have made it a necessity to visit St Louis Square. Victorian inspired homes line the park. I've taken over 100+ pictures of all of the homes near and around the park. I'm sure the locals are annoyed by tourists like me, but the homes are so visually appealing that I can't help posing in front of them. My favorite is the red/blue/purple trio of homes right across the little street from the park. I also adore the homes that look like medieval castles. The park itself has dozens of benches, gorgeous trees, and my favorite - a plague of squirrels. I could spend my entire trip sitting on the benches and feeding the squirrels. I'm not sure what the rules are in Montreal in regards to squirrel feeding (I couldn't find any legitimate information), but nonetheless I have a blast feeding them. It is located right by the subway station Sherbrooke and is close to Mont Royal (a wicked shopping spot). I love this park and will continue to visit it every time I am in Montreal.

The ascent to the top can be taxing if you take the pathway that includes the stairs. I would recommend taking one of the trails up to pace yourself and enjoy the journey to the scenic views. The park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the legendary Landscape Architect who also designed New York's Central Park, and the grounds for Stanford...the impressive list goes on. You really get the impression that this park was thoughtfully designed and planned to harmonize with the native species of plants. There are two Belvederes where you can view the city. We ventured up to Kondiaronk Belvedere and were treated to sweeping views of the city. If you are looking for a postcard-perfect view of Montreal, this is it! Mount Royal Park is a must-do and was definitely one of the highlights of our Canadian trip. Don't miss this park, it's immersive qualities are outstanding and your are rewarded with incredible views if you persevere to the top!

Warning: Be Prepared for Pain for Up to 5 Days Afterwards…read more The park was lovely with lovely rolling hills and picnic areas, and I could see the fish in the ponds at the edges. There were paved paths up the hill to the top of the park. It was a lot of hilly inclines but there were a few benches along the way. At the top at the chalet, there is a nice view of Montreal over the trees. There is a large building up the stairs where you can go down the stairs to the bathrooms. We took the stairs all the way down to McGill University and down more hills to our hotel farther in the city. Chatgpt said there is between 339 to 525 steps depending on how you come out. I was totally amazed as you turn the corner, how many other flights of steps there were. There is no way, I would have made it up the stairs. The wooden stairs were of the same color, no color stripe marking the edges, so for someone with progressive glasses, it made it hard to see where each step ended to go to the next one. I looked more to the edges to see the outline to know. I would have really have hated taking the stairs in the dusk when it was darker or overcast. When we sightsee, I can walk 20,000 - 25,000 steps a day; however with that number of stairs then all the hills from McGill University down to our hotel, my legs felt it that night. The next day, my calves were badly cramping and knotted up for several days afterwards, so I am glad we visited at the end of our trip, not at the beginning. It took 5 days before I could walk without pain. If you decide to go, make sure you do it at the end of your trip or your calves and legs are really stretched out and strong.
