My boyfriend and I were wandering down Glenferrie Road hungry yet poor so we had to budget accordingly and didn't want a massive feast.
Food:
At first when I thought of "Spudbar", I thought - alright I guess a baked potato? That doesn't sound very filling though. Little did I know these meals were actually in large bowls topped with fresh salad and sour cream. It is not just 1 measly potato.
To be fair, the portions were a lot better than just 1 measly baked potato. However, I wouldn't really call the employees here "chefs" or even "cooks". They just sort of pile the different toppings onto the potato with no real care. I ordered the Chilli, Beef, & Bacon Bolognese (without the mushrooms) and it was great, but everything just seemed a bit... disjointed? It didn't feel like a real meal, more like a potato with loads of different side dishes. I don't even know if that makes sense.
My boyfriend on the other hand didn't really enjoy his dish at all - especially not the idea of raw cold mushrooms just plopped on.

Spudbar provides a filling meal for a decent price, but there's just something a bit... off about the place. Like I said, there's really no care involved. The potato is at the bottom of the bowl with all the different toppings layered on. I almost felt like there was a bit more "chef quality" to burgers I get from McDonald's.
Spudbar seems to be a good place for a quick and cheap bite, but if you're looking for a bit more, I suggest you look elsewhere. read more
