Pretty standard build-your-own spud place. Spudbar is a chain and I've been to them in a few different states -- they're consistently good quality.
Essentially, you choose your base (regular baked potato or sweet potato), and then choose a truckload of toppings to put on it.
Either that, or you can select one of their pre-made concoctions.
The menu has clearly-marked vegan and vegetarian options, which I appreciate. Also, everything is gluten-free.
This location in particular is tiiiiiiiny, next to Nando's on Little Bourke Street and close to Hardware Lane.
Service is kinda inconsistent -- I've seen really nice staff members there and really grumpy ones too.
Flavour-wise and quantity-wise, I prefer Famish'd (a similar build-your-own spud concept) just down the road, but honestly Spudbar is a decent alternative and it's way more budget-friendly.
Looks like they've changed their menu and the Indian dahl spud is no longer an option, which is a bummer, but there are plenty more vegan and vegetarian options clearly marked on the menu:
- Fresh Vegie = baby spinach, tomato, corn, carrot, peas & hummus - vegans need to specify no butter
- The Classic = corn, shredded cabbage, spring onions - vegans need to specify no garlic butter, cheese, or sour cream.
- Hawaiian = shredded cabbage, tomato, corn, beetroot, pineapple, and spring onions - vegans need to specify no cheese or sour cream.
- Chilli Bean and Salsa = chilli bean, tomato salsa, corn, shredded cabbage, spring onions, and corn chips - vegans need to specify no cheese or sour cream.
Spudbar also does a couple of salads, but I've never tried them. Vegetarian ones are beetroot and feta and sweet potato/quinoa/feta (vegans need to specify no feta for both of these and otherwise they're good).
All in all, not a bad place to go for take-away lunch if you're in the CBD and looking for a filling meal for $9-12. read more
