He essentially read from a Microsoft instruction manual, which I already have. I needed help with issues not covered. That's why I paid for the course. Admin was unhelpful and full of attitude. Though the course was promoted as being for expanding artists' work, the instructor instead discouraged students from actually creating any work. Instead, we were used as test subjects for her "life coach" training. Instead of presenting our creative work, she encouraged painful childhood revelations----as LONG AS they weren't in the form of a poem, a painting, a story, etc. An unexpected support group, really. Not what was advertised, and I was not looking for cheap therapy from an unqualified person. A lot time was wasted by the instructor startling, commenting and going to the door every time someone walked by. She emailed us to "vote" to change the class start time, so she would not be disturbed by normal campus activity. All I saw was a few students in the hall, chatting quietly. We were never informed as to whether class time was changing. In the second week, she emailed me daily with unwanted, invasive, personal advice on how to run my life and career. She herself has not had any success in an Arts career. The last straw was her email saying I was the first thought on her mind in the morning. Followed by more irrelevant, personal advice. Between the prohibited materials and this invasiveness, I asked ElderCollege for a refund. The administrators had hysterics, repeatedly focusing on the fact I'd emailed the office after hours. I have never known an organization insist you are absolutely sure you are not emailing at lunch, or after 3 pm on alternate days. No refund, just more hysterics and obfuscation. After speaking with many concerns about ElderCollege, I discovered it is not uncommon for their instructors to simply profusely photocopy copyrighted materials as their curriculum. It got even weirder. The director posts her email on her LinkedIn. I discovered it is her personal email, which she shares with her hubby. So unprofessional. After I emailed her once, she told me not to email her again at that public address. But she kept emailing me from this address. That pretty much defined the crazy making nature of this place. Like being put in a round room and ordered to pee in a corner. I took it up with the BBB, and the astonishing personal attack and falsehoods the admins launched, was something you just don't see from professionals. They found my email stating that it is illegal to photocopy and distribute copyrighted materials, "intimidating." Of course, they didn't state the topic of my email or its calm, factual tone. They just used ugly words in a personal attack. You can enjoy higher quality courses at a community centre or library, for half the price or even free. They seem to vet their instructors more stringently, as well. I knew this course wasn't for credit, but I mistook the word "college" and its location at a rented room at UFV, for offering higher standards. The only business I've seen that has turned off their Google reviews.

The thing is, life moves fast, and although we all have dreams and goals.. sometimes we end up at somewhere like UFV. Now, I am not trying to trash on anyone who goes to UFV, it is an okay school, and I don't blame anyone for going there. It is a relatively affordable school, and it makes sense for so many people to go there; it makes sense for me to go there. However, at the same time, I would not try to claim that the University of The Fraser Valley is a great school. To be honest I kind of sort maybe hate it. The profs are pretty good, and the campus itself is not that bad, but if I were to be completely honest, the only thing that convinces me to go to school is wanting a better job when I am older. Okay, not really.. my main motivator for going to school is the UFV Timhortons located within building G. Shoutout to the Timmie's workers, they are the goats. Oh yeah, also the wifi/power goes down like everyday.. so I guess that's one way to procrastinate with a reason.

It's difficult to get through a degree when courses aren't always available or you're being waitlisted. This is especially apparent for their low budget CIS program! Highly recommend communications courses here though! The profs are all great and what they teach is useful for any real world career! Japanese Prof Joe Sunami is also highly under appreciated. He's a wonderful, patient teacher! Weeaboos please take his class seriously. He deserves better than you!

We got to tour the fitness center, gymnasium and pool area. Then took a leisurely walk around the campus to see the different buildings - Fine Arts building, the Library, Residence Halls, Science Building, and the Viking Union. All were closed since it was a Sunday, but still enjoyed walking around to see the layout and creative structures and different building locations. The natural environment with views of the Cascades and hills full of trees across the ocean was very calming and peaceful.

CAUTION: Don't come here…read more This university changed a lot, seemingly for the worse. If something goes wrong, watch out for the caring front some professors put up. I fell for it and it costed me. I truly believed that when another student told my professor that I felt suicidal, that I would be helped. Instead my tuition was wasted. I was told to enroll in courses that had no site placement. Then when I asked my professor about the shared concern from my classmate regarding how I felt suicidal, she gaslighted me. She forgot that my classmate said I felt suicidal. Mind you, my classmate shared this information without my permission. We had a three hour meeting after class that I can't believe she forgot... I thought I'd be supported but instead I was ignored for the rest of the year due to the courses that did not exist. I was then suddenly removed from my program because I was told I was not ready for my final quarter. I would have been ready if I actually had learned what the missing courses failed to provide due to not existing at all. All of my classmates noticed how I was treated, but nothing was ever done to help me, because then the school year ended and everyone graduated. The program I was in had high suicide and mental health stats, which I learned after I graduated. In hindsight, the pressures of how challenging the program is was a huge source of stress, which was basically mocked at the front door, during orientation. Do not expect this university to actually care about you as a person. You only seem to matter if you can contribute financially, but otherwise, you're completely on your own. Other things happened too. I'm not sure why there weren't better actions in place. After my sudden program removal, I was actually preyed on by a student who took advantage of me and raped me. And if that wasn't enough insult to injury, I never used my college degree for anything because my credentials were incomplete and all my financial aid ran out, even though I had a full ride, which was all wasted and never reimbursed, when I wasn't provided courses. This was all extremely painful for me to go through and i would argue that I never deserved what happened to me. I hope that this isn't the standard for how this university treats students who feel suicidal. Before my classmate shared anything about suicide, no professors could tell. So I felt exposed and then discarded. This was so brutal and unexpected at the end of college. My life has not been the same since. There are better colleges that won't make you go through what I went through. WWU is a high risk and a gamble in my honest opinion. You don't get a nice college name in the end. Anywhere else is better. I hope this helps.
