Review Visit: August 8th, 2016…read more This castle has a moat of ice cream, corn dogs and deliciousness. I kid. There is actually no moat of ice cream, corn dogs and deliciousness, but there is a counter where you can order some of those. After driving past Kastle Kreme a few times on my way to Iowa, I finally made a conscientious effort to stop and try their ice cream. I do love me some ice cream shacks. Boy, what a yummy stop it was. From what I could tell, you can only walk up and order food. Which is fine, as other ice cream shacks I have been to are similar. For the size of the building, it's kind of odd that there isn't an indoor area, unless I am mistaken. It's about the size of a small business building, if that makes sense. If I can, I will update this blog to reflect any updates I find out about the place. I ended up ordering a simple ice cream cone. For the life of me, I don't remember the flavor (probably swirl), even after looking over the menu and my photos. I do remember enjoying the ice cream and thinking how I wish I could get some closer to my home. You really can't go wrong with most ice cream shacks. Also, you really can't screw up ice cream. Looking over their menu, it seems they offer your usual ice cream shack food offerings. Hot dogs, tenderloins, chicken tenders. Your usual lunch or dinner offerings. I didn't try any of those but they sound yummy. I will have to try some food next time. It's not too often I drive to and/or through Galesburg, so who knows when I will get back to the Kastle. I am hoping to revisit it next summer to try their other offerings as I love a good tenderloin and ice cream cone. When I do, I will update this blog accordingly.

Delicious ice cream, quick service, a bit pricey but everything else has gone up too. Seating…read moreoutside

Located in the cutest downtown shopping area, there is on street parking and public lots available…read morein the area. The dining area is small, you likely cannot accommodate a larger group without a lengthy wait. We arrived around noon on a Sunday and waited about 15 minutes for a table. They provided a pager and indicated you could walk a 3-block radius, then recommended some shops nearby. When our pager went off we were promptly seated. Tables area is tight, there is not a lot of room to spread out. Our server came quickly and was friendly and accommodating. There are separate menus for breakfast and lunch/dinner. Options include crab cakes, Belgian waffles, paninis, pastas, and of course sweet or savory crepes. There are many options that are either gluten free or can be offered gluten free. The bread is homemade which always a bonus. We ordered a GF Turkey Melt, a Bacon & Cheddar Waffle, and Pesto Chicken Pasta. Everything came quickly and was delicious. We would all order what we had again, but with the expansive menu would be excited to try other options also. Many items on the menu can also be ordered in a smaller portion for a reduced price as well. I did this with my pasta, as I wanted to save room for a sweet crepe. For dessert, we ordered a Nutella Strawberry Crepe, a Black Forest (minus the cherry) Crepe, and the Hot Fudge Crepe (half portions). The Black Forest and hot fudge were filled with vanilla Hagan Dass ice cream. They were all so delicious and I recommend saving room to try one. They also offer their coffee beans to take home (and will grind them if desired) in half or full pound bags. The Praline Pecan is really lovely. Overall, if you are in the area, definitely give this place a try! It would be hard to be disappointed.

I would to start off this review by saying at I am not from Galesburg. I am from the far-off land…read moreof California, where humble shops like these don't really exist. When they do, they have competition against stores like Whole Foods who take customers from the local natural food stores, leading to the prices being marked up. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of keeping local businesses open and thriving, but I will humbly step off my soap box, and continue on to share my love for this beautiful business. As I get off the train from San Francisco and search up local restaurants, I come across Cornucopia, a hybrid business model that has both a deli and a market with great prices and a bigger selection than most stores I have seen. With curiosity in my head, and a growling stomach, I set off to walk the entire 3 minutes it takes to get to Cornucopia from the train station. I need not say the location of this place is great. The moment I walk in, I am greeted by both the delicious smell of Indian food as well as a nice woman by the name of Susan Lyon. She tells me that this is not only a family run business, but a business run by all women, and Susan (with her husband) are the founders. After our greetings and conversation, I walk to the deli where they had a fine selection of foods from sandwiches to curries. I order the coconut curry (a popular dish, from the words of the man working there) with turmeric rice, and a cup of coffee. I cannot understate the amount of flavor it has, and I highly recommend it to anyone who cannot do spicy food. I also see their selection of bulk spices, frozen meals, supplements, and everyday use items like toothpaste and shampoos. I walked out with a smile on my face, and as the cold Illinois wind hits me I feel longing to go back to the warmth of Cornucopia once again, but my train was to leave soon. I enjoyed every moment of this business, and I will always hope that they expand their business to California. If you ever are visiting Galesburg, Illinois, please make sure to go here. You will be pleasantly surprised by this humble family business. I hope my review, written on the observatory deck of the Amtrak, not only convince you to go here, but give you the little slice of life that Galesburg has to offer.

The price was so reasonable, I could hardly believe it. I can't wait to order these again the next time we are in Galesburg. Thank you, Cornucopia, for this excellent experience.
