My friends and I got together really just to visit and catch up, with no real plans for activities in mind. The property gave us plenty of room to spread out in comfort, and a spacious kitchen and dining area to come together for meals. We made use of the large deck area as well, with the beautiful fire table and seating area. There is a hot tub on the deck as well, but it was not available during our stay. The property was clean and well-equipped, with enough kitchen equipment and basic ingredients for us to prepare anything we needed. We were impressed by how roomy it was, and the house is furnished with rustic pieces that felt very relaxed and cozy. The property had no TVs when we stayed there, but this was not a problem for us as we came there to visit. There is internet service on the property, which was sufficient to supplement the sometimes spotty cellular reception. Mayne Island has numerous places to discover, including a great outdoor pub, some wonderful casual dining spots, and some amazing walking areas. We ventured out for walks down to nearby beaches and saw quite a bit of local wildlife, including a number of sea birds. We also took several drives around the island, visiting St. John Point, and Campbell Point trail, which takes you through a beautiful forest of arbutus trees. There are a few small grocery stores on the island, but I would recommend a larger shop on the mainland before catching the ferry across, as we did. There is a wine/liquor store on the island as well, and the Mayne Island Brewing Company sells its beers by the bottle, as well as offering tastings and pints to stay. I loved our stay at The Grove, and we are already making plans to return. This is a great spot for a family or larger group who wants to gather in some peace and quiet on beautiful Mayne Island.

Wonderful and the way a B and B should be. The home is located on the center of the island on a…read morewooded bluff with a nice view. I stayed in the Maidenhair Suite, one of three guest rooms. It is separated from the main home offering privacy and quiet. It has its own hot tub too located on a private balcony. The innkeepers, Richard and Julie are warm, amicable and great hosts. To me a good B and B is not just the facility but the folks who run it. They are great and will make you feel right at home. Julie will feed you well too, so make sure you go for a hike, bike or run afterward and the Fernhill B and B is located really close to the wonderful hiking trails of Mount Parke. Oh yeah-the B and B has a big ole cat and a cute and slightly skittish rescue Shiba Inu. They both add warmth and character to this wonderful accommodation.

The self contained unit provides the guests with utmost privacy and has a full kitchen, so if you stay long you can cook some of your meals here. The hosts were considerate to leave basic Kitchen supplies like tea/coffee, salt/sugar, cooking oil etc. They were thoughtful to have a basket in the bathroom full of basic toiletries one often forgets. I took a toothbrush from it! The best part is the breakfast, which is freshly made each morning. We got bowls of fresh fruits with delicious homemade granola along with a baked breakfast item: Scones/muffins/waffles each day. We could not decide on a favourite and felt so spoilt! They had a great selection of books and boardgames in the seating room. Wifi is a bit erratic but when you are on the island the point is to relax and get time off the grid! It is walking distance from eateries like babes in the woods, Galiano Island's independent book shop and the active pass where you can see harbour seals and otters passing. The couple running it are lovely and super helpful. We cannot wait to return.

When I want to send my mind and memory to it's happy place, I send it on a vacation here: 2 beautiful rooms with private bathrooms and a fireplace with the most breathtaking views and spectacular sunsets; big yummy homemade breakfasts with our chatty and very friendly hosts; a hot tub for late night dips under the stars; and deer munching on the grounds made Salt Spring the best mini-vacay I've taken in ages! Whether you want to be left alone or entertained with a lifetime of stories from Bill and Edward, this has been the best bed and breakfast experience I've had to date!

From the Seaview Haven Chalet, with it's own kitchen and two floors of my own space, it was blissful peace from the moment I dropped my bags. Definitely rustic, with a grandma's house vibe (complete with stuffed animals) the chalet only has one piece of "technology," a CD player--ideal when you're there to escape! *And a potty note -- they are on a septic system, so if you can handle tossing your TP in the trash instead of the bowl, they greatly appreciate it!* The view from the bedroom was incredible! Waking up to look at the ocean, framed in trees always has a way of winning my heart! My only suggestions would be for them to update some of the furnishings, linens and bedding. Right next to the main house, a stream runs straight over the big rocks leading to the ocean. I had to admit, there was something serenely magical about sitting out on this edge. When the tide was out, I spent so long stretched out on a long rock with my book that I sunburned -- ouch! A bathtub (yes, a bathtub) that you can fill up is built right into the rocks. I didn't give it a try - not being a bath person myself, but it does have a great view! *A deer note: Make sure you're around at dinner time, that's when the deer come out and try to sneak nibbles through the fences they have protecting their gardens.* There's also a couple of rooms they rent out inside the main house which had extraordinary views as well! Maybe if I'm feeling more social next time I want to escape I'll look into one of those...one did have a hammock after all! If this is up your alley, I should warn, the house is situated down a long steep gravel road, 12 km from the ferry terminal. That's about 1/2 way up the island, so I'd say a car, or really powerful bike legs...and it is a hilly ride!

Every room seems unique in an arty and aesthetically pleasing way. Luannah showed us the rec room she is in the middle of building and it looks great. super lovely property, kind of like a zen garden mixed with human size hobbit environment, like the streams, the rocks, the paths, the hills. Massage by Luannah, a german RMT, was educational and helpful. I read a lot of the reviews and she really does know her stuff. I have chronic pain and long standing issues from an MVA and she really did help. My roomie got a massage that was more related to stress and emotions. Theres only one RMT so we took turns. We both came out feeling genuinely happy. The Massage room is a separate house, also another amazing structure. Its clean, modern, well-set up. She asks you tell her about your body and when you go to disrobe, she goes behind these doors and then you tell her when youre ready. I actually love the face pillow that you put your head on when lying face down, it is, for once, comfortable!! Host: Luannah said she was going to send me referrals in Vancouver for a chiro and an RMT, which I thought was really kind and thoughtful of her. She knocks on the door and also responds to texts and calls. Her husband and kid came home later in the evening. She was super caring, thoughtful and helpful. Even packed us food to go cause we were in a rush for the ferry. Provided advil. Wifi is good. Shower nozzle was super tricky to get right. There's cat in the main area and I think I only sneezed and blew my nose a handful of times, which I'd say youre pretty safe imo. Cat is 19 year old Jeremiah who goes outside and stays downstairs, super cute!! Hot tub was my super favorite part.

The owners had thought of everything, very detailed and extra ammenities that I didn't expect like TV, a great DVD selection, hottub, freshly baked cookies daily, etc. It felt like we were at a friend's home. My husband and I had such a wonderful time, not only on Salt Spring Island but at this particular B&B. We highly recommend it!!!

But we were on a budget this summer and wanted to stay on Saltspring without breaking our budget, so we decided to try out the BG. Jason and Josh went out of their way to pick us up, provide byciles and advice about visiting the island. They were genuinely happy hosts that truly enjoyed the company of their guests, yet were respectful of our privacy. I'm convinced we found the best B&B in North America!
