Another adventure on the SpringRidge bus. This time to Guide Dogs for the Blind. A wonderful experience learning about all the effort it takes to produce dogs for the blind. So many volunteers that do a very dedicated job. We all enjoyed the tour and the lunch that followed at the Ram in Wilsonville. read more

Let me start by saying my mom couldn't wait to move in to Springridge. She had a home in Carbonneau for years, and loves the area. The area is gorgeous. The facility is fine, and for the most part she enjoyed the staff. We/she are not happy with this facility any longer. Our mother is in the independent section, and she is very independent. First, and most important there have been two separate occasions for which we needed staff to check on our mother and we could not reach anyone. Her neighbor across the hall had fallen recently and no one was available to help her. Springridge states they have a 24-hour emergency call system and reception desk. Second, the dining room is closed because of covid. They are now serving and delivering a very limited menu. Our mother is lactose intolerant, and they are unable or unwilling to cater to this need. We question why the dining room is still not open when other facilities dining rooms are. There is a patio that is not open. According to our mother, the quality of the meals has dropped significantly since the dining room has been closed. However, they just recently raised their rates for my mother. The last important issue is twofold. Our sister is in the ICU clinging to life due to cancer. A staff member said my mother faces eviction if she leaves to visit her regularly. Yesterday I needed to take our mom to the Doctor because she fell on her hand. My mother's doctor was out so her doctor office referred me to either an urgent care clinic or ER. Upon return from urgent care we were told by the same staff member the policy is residents can visit their doctor office only. No urgent care, no ER, no hospital or they will face quarantine. My question was why is a doctors office safer than ICU. She didn't know, she said it may be the cleaning products they use. If this rule was logical, so be it. How on earth does this make any sense? I told the staff member that we are aware of a friend of my mom's who was afraid to leave the facility to visit her dying husband of 40 years because she was afraid of being evicted. She told me that was just a rumor. It is not. We understand everything is up in the air with covid. We do expect to receive the services that are being paid for. We also expect our mother and everyone else's loved one to receive the best care and service possible, and to be safe. We are still awaiting a decision as to whether they will allow her to visit my sister. It's been 24 hours. My mom is ready to move out. read more

The assisted living facility, Springridge Court, is attractive.  Generally people are friendly. The age of residents is older than it used to be. The facility is  short on caregivers.  It seems many caregivers quit because they have to work several days in a row or have so many residents to care for all by themselves.  Residents get showers on designated days, not every day. Some new caregivers do the bare minimum.  You are lucky to get your bed made or the trash taken out.  You never know how long it will take for someone to respond to your call button. Housekeeping is fair. The quality of food has gone down but the price you pay here goes up about 3 percent a year, supposedly because of the wonderful care and amenities. And if you need help with medications, that fee goes up every year as well.  During the big freeze, residents had no heat or lighting in their apartments and were served cold sandwiches.  There is no large generator to provide heat and lights for the residents. My mother, at age 88, chose to move to SpringRidge because she had lived in Charbonneau for nearly 30 years, had friends who liked living there, and could keep playing golf twice a week :) The staff were upbeat, friendly, and caring, including the young people who served the meals. At each meal, choices varied, to appeal to different appetites and palettes. and were presented nicely. My mom enjoyed the activities that were available, from water aerobics, to Bridge and other games, concerts, lectures, and her favorite, the Friday bus excursions to fun destinations with other SpringRidge friends. When larger amounts of family wanted to gather with her there, there always seemed to be a good place for us to meet, and again, the staff could not have been more accommodating and the dining room director was terrific at coming up with catered meals or snacks for our various birthday and reunion celebrations at more than reasonable cost. My mom's 2 bedroom apartment on the ground floor was light and cheerful. The patio space meant that after our Mother's Day trip to Al's in Woodburn we could together plant her impatiens and geraniums each May. After several years of independent living and enjoying old and new friendships, mom had the fall we women of a certain age all fear and dread, and broke her hip. Her attempt to recover was made extra difficult by other health issues, and had it not been for the compassionate leadership at SpringRidge, to allow her to return to her apartment with the aid of Trilogy caregivers, she would have spent her last weeks deteriorating alone in a skilled nursing facility. I will be forever grateful to the Director and staff for the compassion shown to me and my brothers as we also assisted with her care. She passed away peacefully in the familiar place where she felt comfortable, respected, and loved. SpringRidge turned out to not just be the place where my mom took up residence, but a loving community where our whole family felt welcome coming and going and relieved that she could live her life out the way she chose in a lovely safe and friendly place. This was all before Covid-19. I really feel for the staff, residents, and related family members with parents at SpringRidge and other similar living groups at this time. It must be so difficult to figure out how to keep things as safe as possible, while allowing people to stay connected with friends and loved ones. For the sake of our elderly, I wish we could do whatever Canada and Europe and Asian countries have done to get our numbers down to end this isolation sooner than later. It seems we are drawing things out by our lack of a national strategy and commitment by all of us citizens to do our part. read more

My mother lived in the assisted living for four years and the extended care for one year. The staff was caring and kind, the meal options were a ten, the grounds were beautiful. The interior of the common areas were maintained beautifully, as well as her apt. She called Springridge her home away from home.......what more can you ask for. read more

In February of 2017 I was invited to join SpringRidge At Charbonneau in Wilsonville for lunch. I was so disappointed when the presenter bragged about their meals and indicated that they use a bunch of bacon. He seemed proud that their food was so delicious. There is not a resident in that community that should be offered that kind of food. Today, I received a call from a woman from that community to see if I was interested. When I told her how I felt about what they serve to their residents, she indicated that if they did not do that they would not have residents. The food at SpringRidge has been deteriorating in quality over the years. This last Thanksgiving and Christmas the food was HORRIBLE. I feel bad for my parent having to deal with that "food". An example of how bad it was, the dark meat on the turkey was drier than the breast meat! I also bit into several sharp shards of bones. read more
