A breath of fresh air compared to hotels down of street. Beautiful lobby & continental breakfast was awesome. Room is clean and quiet.

My family loved the conveniences of the kitchenette (microwave, sink, plates, utensils, fridge) and the beds were wonderful.

However, I was very happy to be offered this wonderful Breakfast Bag which included a bottle of spring water, a microwavable breakfast sandwich, a blueberry muffin and a fruit cup. I love fruit cups! Thank you for making my stay in Pittsburgh less anxiety provoking!

Very disappointed by this Hilton property. I stayed last week and it was great! The AC was amazing,…read morethe room was nice, decent breakfast, etc. I'm in the area for a six week project. Fast forward to this week. No WiFi, and no ETA for it to be up. If you have Verizon, you have only one bar at the hotel. Add to that, I stayed in room 313. The toilet ran loudly every 20 minutes. I called the front desk and let them know Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings about it. Apparently maintenance had been in my room every day and was not able to resolve it. On Wednesday evening the desk clerk was exasperated and told me the maintenance man had done everything possible, even replacing the flapper! So it can't still be running. But it still was. Every 20 minutes. Loudly. Get a new toilet for that room or a new maintenance man. Substandard hotel with substandard maintenance service. The desk clerk never offered to move me to a different room, even after I told her I hadn't slept well for the two nights prior because the toilet ran all night. I ended up turning off the water source to the toilet to get some sleep last night and checked out a day early because of it. Not impressed. Cancelled my reservations for the next four weeks and will stay somewhere else.

Let me start with this -- I'm AMAZED by the number of 1 star reviews, over one minor issue. If you…read morecan't leave an honest rating then maybe you shouldn't be writing reviews. We travel from NE Ohio to Pittsburgh frequently but this was our first stay at the Holiday Inn Express - Mifflin. Everything was as expected and some expectations were exceeded. Very friendly staff. The elevators arrived quickly. The room was clean and spacious, as were the common areas. The only time a felt a bit cramped was by the low 4th floor ceilings. It snowed overnight and the parking lot was salted in the morning. Saw a few mentions of the coffee being to strong but I thought it was one of the better cups I've had at a hotel. Large buffet style breakfast with three warmer food options as well as cereals, yogurts, breads. They also have a pretty fun pancake machine that kept a few college students very entertained *Pro tip: mix the orange juice with the mango juice. This property is everything you'd expect a Holiday Inn Express to be and I'd say a little more. If you want fancy interiors and valet parking, there are plenty of options in the city. If you want clean, comfortable and affordable with a breakfast you'd pay $18 for at a diner - this is an excellent option.

Gee, how did I end up in a Holiday Inn Express on the outskirts of Pittsburgh? I had not stayed in…read moreone since I looked for last-minute lodging before a Lost Coast weekender outside of Eureka, CA. Coincidentally, I was in a last-minute lodging situation yet again because I had originally planned a road trip to Jamestown, NY. However, heavy snowfall scared me off, so I decided to stay in Pittsburgh one more night, but hotels closer to the city center were fully booked. I had never heard of West Mifflin, but it didn't turn out to be that onerous a drive from downtown. I noticed several Steeler fans were willing to stay here and do the same drive. The location felt fairly remote, though the popular Kennywood theme park was nearby. I was able to secure only a King Suite for $284. That was more than I wanted to pay, but beggars can't be choosers. It was too cold to sleep in my rental SUV. It did cross my mind. The suite was spacious, just rather spartan (Photos 5-7). I wasn't really in need of two flatscreen TV's for my overnight stay. I did manage to try their underwhelming complimentary breakfast (Photo 8). There were no dining options on the premises, but a five-minute walk took me to a reasonably good Mexican restaurant, Primo's Tacos & Tequila (review: https://yelp.to/fs-RZBdJ9n). The front desk staff was polite. All in all, if you want a suite like mine, it felt overpriced for the less than stellar amenities. There was a valid reason this place was not fully booked. What a beautiful home! I treated my boyfriend to a couple of days here as a birthday treat (and as…read morea "thanks for spending your actual birthday with me and all my relatives at our family reunion hundreds of miles from home" treat). With one of the Frank Lloyd Wright packages purchased in advance, we were able to spend some time in this little town right outside of Pittsburgh and one full morning at Wright's masterpiece, the Fallingwater house (which has now officially been declared priceless!) The bed and breakfast's website will have you convinced that West Newton, PA is a gorgeous riverside town. Don't believe the hype. While it's okay, the town is nothing to look at it not exactly walkable. Between the Victorian home and the "downtown" area, we were hard-pressed to find any sidewalks. We did take the hotel manager's advice and rent some bikes (okay, I admit it--we were cheesy and got a bicycle built for two) in order to ride along the pretty bike path that runs along the Youghiogheny River. (Don't worry--you can just call it by its nickname, "the Yock.") Apart from the town being relatively desolate (hardly anything was open) and unattractive, the b&b was oozing with charm. We weren't sickened by it, however. We had a GIGANTIC, ornately carved king-sized bed, a big bathroom with a whirlpool tub (note: no shower--I assumed that there would be one, but only some rooms have 'em), and the WHOLE HOUSE TO OURSELVES. That's right. No one was in any of the other four rooms, and the owner and manager live off-site. Glory be! We felt rich and famous for two days. I feel terrible for forgetting her name, but the woman who arrived bright and early to serve us breakfast at whatever time we desired it was really friendly, funny, and kind. She asked us in advance if the next day's meal would suit us and gave us tips about the area. (She even gave me a slight discount on the two-day Wright package since we didn't have enough time to go to two different FLW sites.) Overall, it was a lovely experience. I would highly endorse a trip there if you're going to be in Pittsburgh (or are from Pittsburgh) and want a quick getaway where you will either leave the hotel most of the day to explore the luxuriously beautiful Laurel Canyons region OR if you're just going to stay in the hotel all day long (insert low growl noise). If you're traveling from far away and want a more picturesque vacation destination b&b in the Laurel Highlands, I'd look at this helpful website: http://www.laurelhighlands.org/ Happy bedding & breakfasting!

Despite…read morehaving to go down a cement stairway to get inside to the main lobby (only discovered the ramp to the door a yard to the right later that evening) and the floor of the elevator needing immediate attention to fix tripping hazard, our stay was quite pleasant! Our King room (314) was comfortable, clean, and had many amenities (large mini-fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, alarm clock radio, huge tv.) The bathroom was sparkling with a big mirror and bright lights. The shower head has three settings to choose from, the water pressure is great, and soap, shampoo, and conditioner are all provided. I love the corner chair with its little table and the hassock. We both used it at different times for reading or surfing the web for local restaurants. The King size bed was a little harder than I like (needs a mattress topper to be more body-forming & softer.) But was tolerable for the two nights we stayed. The walls aren't exactly sound proof (could hear all conversations in the hallway.) Location of the hotel is right in big shopping area. We were in the area to attend a convention in Monroeville (about 10 miles/ 20-30 minutes away (depending on traffic.) But we couldn't pass up the great price (compared to Monroeville hotels) plus we got to experience Homestead and what it has to offer. The free breakfast has many options, but healthier food would be better. I had a banana, a couple bites of an apple (which was bruised all around and past its prime), scrambled eggs and sausage patties. Lots of carb/grain-filled options available for those who aren't on a restrictive diet. Suggestion: Maybe offer a gluten free choice as well. Possibly have non-dairy yogurt as an alternative. Our second morning we opted to eat breakfast at a restaurant to eat better choices. Summary: enjoyed our stay and would stay here again because of location, cleanliness, prices, and friendly staff.
