An odd thing is that there was no separate top sheet- just a sheet material incorporated into the bottom side of the comforter. This was also problematic for us and we both prefer different temperatures - it was warm and stuffy in the room and I would've liked to have just had a sheet. The HVAC unit was very loud. On the plus side everything was very clean. We got the exact room I had requested on the app prior to our stay. Our keys were ready for us (this hotel does not have the technology for the room entry via the app), which we appreciated as we arrived very late. Water temp and pressure in the shower were very good. Lots of toiletries provided. Breakfast was solid, and the price was right.

I was furious as I had been on the road all day and was there to visit friends in Bridgeport the next day....and did I mention I had a reservation. After a long discussion they offered me a reservation in Morgantown about one hour away. I declined and stayed at the Super 8 as it was the only hotel with availability. The next day I spoke with management and was offered an apology and 10k HH points for my "inconvenience" which ironically is about a third of what is required for a free reward stay....I declined this also. I have since signed up for the Marriott reward program. Book at your own risk.

We stayed three nights at this Comfort Suites. It is located on a hill, as is all of West Virginia; if you are not driving up or down a hill, you must not be in West Virginia anymore, hahaha. This hotel is up in a business park area, with an iHOP, Wendy's, and Sheetz next door. The Sheetz was particularly convenient for gas and snacks as needed. Our room was a Queen/Queen suite. It was not the best suite of this nature we've ever had at a Comfort. The couch was small and not very comfortable. Suites like this often have two TVs, one by the beds and one by the couch. But there was only one television oddly placed where watching it from the beds or the couch wasn't great. Also there was no light or lamp at all in the couch area. But we weren't in town to sit on the couch and watch TV, so that wasn't a huge issue for us. The beds were comfortable enough, just with the usual hotel issue of HUGE HUGE HUGE uncomfortable pillows. But that is not unique to this hotel, all hotel pillows typically suck, hahaha. The free hot breakfast was a bit of a let down. When we first came in and scoped the breakfast area, we were excited to see THREE waffle makers! Unfortunately there was no waffle batter provided the whole three days of our stay. :-( The rest of the breakfast was good enough, but still a let down without any batter for any of the three waffle irons that sat sadly unused. After our long days of exploring, we did enjoy the pool and hot tub. It was smaller, but clean and more than adequate for a family swim. The location of this hotel was really the star. It was great for our adventure'ing!! Santa brought out teens mostly cash for Christmas, and the Meadowbrook Mall is less than ten minutes away for shopping. For outdoor nature exploring, the hotel is within 25 minutes to an hour of five state parks. We did a hike at Tygart Lake State Park, which was lovely. For history, the hotel is close to several Stonewall Jackson historical sites, including his birthplace marker/statue and his boyhood cabin and grist mill. And for those who enjoy offbeat sites, less than an hour away is the American Glass Museum (free), the West Virginia Bigfoot Museum (free), and the Flatwoods Monster Museum (free), all super fun and quirky attractions. The hotel is on the outskirts of the village of Bridgeport, which is a super cute village to check out too, with adorable boutique shopping and coffee shops. Overall we were satisfied with our stay at this Comfort Suites. The room and accommodations were clean, mostly comfortable, and in a great location for all of the things and then some that we wanted to see, do, eat, and enjoy as a family. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we loved this area of West Virginia, and would love to come back to see and do more. This Comfort Suites is a good place to rest your head in between everything that this part of wild and wonderful West Virginia has to offer.

There also isn't a casual buffet-style breakfast like most Best Western hotels. Instead, you get a choice of three preset meals, and have to sit in a formal restaurant and order them from a server. (Or you can get $4 off a regular breakfast from the restaurant menu.) You need to fill your own drinks in the lobby, and tipping is heavily emphasized. Although our server was fine, this is not the type of experience I want first thing in the morning while on a trip. I want to be able to get only scrambled eggs, or just a pile of dry toast. I want to have the option of wearing my pajama bottoms as I sleepily open a sealed bowl of dry cereal and dump some milk into it. I don't want to have to talk cohesively to an employee and be served a fancy parfait I may or may not be able to eat. The entire place felt old and outdated, too. But it wasn't dirty, so I didn't mind very much. Overall, it wasn't the worst hotel, and I wouldn't say people should avoid it. But I also won't be staying here again.

The staff were friendly and professional, especially one of the housekeeping staff, Ms. Nancy. It was really quiet when we were there, even though there seemed to be a lot of guests at the hotel and with the renovations they were undergoing. Our room was fairly clean and well-stocked with the normal toiletries and other amenities. They definitely updated a lot of things in the room. The only thing I would've wished they also updated and made sure was clean was the heat/AC unit in the room. It looked like the filter should've been replaced or cleaned because of all the dust bunnies attached to it. Other than that, no other complaints. The beds were comfortable, and my entire party napped all day because we had travelled quite far after working a full week. The breakfast was from 0630-0930, and they had a good variety of hot breakfast foods as well as fruits, cereals, yogurt and drinks. They keep them well-stocked, and if something was low, it looked like it was because they were in the process of prepping more. We didn't have to wait very long for replenishments. Breakfast definitely has solid choices. I work out at 0500 and had the opportunity to eat after my workouts, so it was really convenient for me. It was also very quiet with not very many guests up at the time, which I enjoyed very much. Overall, our experience was really pleasant. We would definitely come back and use their services should we have something in the area.

The pool room needs to be redone because it was like a horror movie vibe and the water in the pool was very cloudy. I have stayed in some bad places at times but this one was probably the 2nd worse I've ever seen or been in. This is definitely not a hotel that I will be back to ever again. They need to do better and figure things out and hire some people that will do their jobs and clean for the next person that pays to stay. I would have asked for a refund but I'd rather stay to get the experience and let others know that this isn't the best around. Wyndham needs to get a hold on their businesses.
