I can't say enough good things about the mid-wife team I was blessed to have during the duration of…read moremy pregnancy and delivery! Every visit was sincere care and encouragement. I ended up with a high-risk pregnancy and had to be transferred to care at Cox South. This beautiful mid-wife team went with me, advocated for me, and gave me every possibly chance at the most natural birth possible. They held pressure points to relieve my contractions, they soothed me with essential oils and worked along side team I was assigned to at Cox. I ended up needing an emergency c-section after signs of preeclampsia developed into HELLP Syndrome. I was heartbroken but the Family Birth & Wellness team never left me. They truly doubled as a doula in my case and also helped me understand all the hospital lingo and presented me with more knowledge and options which put me in a strong place of power when advocating for myself and my baby. My postnatal care though is really where they won my heart. Without saying too much detail... baby was delivered c-section, however, the placenta was left in and I was sewn up with it inside of me. Cox doctors didn't believe me when I said I felt something was wrong like something was inside of me, even though my puffy preeclampsia state didn't go away after baby was born as it normally would. My midwife team however took me very seriously, monitored my blood pressure and as I got sicker and sicker post birth they determined I had an infected uterus and an appendix at risk of eruption. They immediately got me meds for my high blood pressure and sent me into the ER ASAP. ER doctors thought the assessment was ridiculous but despite push back from the ER doctors, I stated firmly, with all confidence in my midwife team, that the tests needed to be done! Yes!! Turns out my uterus was infected and my appendix was inflamed. ER doctors were in amazement and kept asking how I knew... how a midwife would know... ...and got me into surgery immediately to avoid an eruption of the appendix. So, would I trust Family Birth & Wellness with my life? And my baby's life? YES, Yes I would. Zero doubts or hesitations... because, you see, I did once, and they saved me. They have my whole heart.

I had a really good experience the first few visits however as my pregnancy progressed it got…read moreworse. We chose a midwife because we wanted to have minimal medical intervention as possible for our sixth birth. After having five successful vaginal deliveries we were confident that our sixth delivery would be similar, easy enough we wouldn't need to go to a hospital. When I questioned the midwifes authority and said I didn't want a procedure that was dangerous to me and the baby they fired back an email saying they were severing our relationship I was 40 weeks and 6 days and without any sort of discussion they threw me out in the cold. Thankfully I was able to walk into Cox hospital two days later and have another easy vaginal delivery. My advice don't go here unless you're willing to blindly do whatever they want regardless of the safety of you or your baby.

I am writing this only to warn others about Dr Pamela Denson... She is cruel and uncaring and…read morejudgemental. When I went in to see her for the first time during my second pregnancy (my first pregnancy I had a lovely obgyn in Tenessee) she asked very personal questions about my relationship life that were none of her business. She is a doctor supposed to take care of the health of my unborn baby. She asked me what type of relationship I had with the father of the baby.. I told her that we were getting a divorce and he was not going to be there during this pregnancy. She then advised me to look into adoption. I have a daughter already that I take very good care of. I already told her I didn't want to answer questions about the father and after she pryed me she had the nerve to advice that I look into adoption. This was not the only thing I found wrong when seeing her. She is also cold and uncaring and refuses to test for anything that I think may be wrong while I'm pregnant. I told her I was bleeding a lot and she would not make an appointment to see me. I told her I thought I might have bv which is dangerous during pregnancy. She wouldn't make an appointment she just told me to go to walmart and pick up some cream. Her method of doing invasive exams are very uncaring and just cold and she comes across as she hates her patients and hates her job and wants to be out of your room as quickly as possible and she doesn't give a crap about the baby in your belly. I would not want her to handle my newborn baby. After a couple more visits I could not stand her and I switched OB's and am now very very happy with my current ob who treats her patients as people.

It is extremely important that an OB-GYN: 1. Listen to the…read morepatient 2. Respect the patient Dr. Pamela Denson was incapable of neither of these things, and thus caused a current injury to become even worse. You know the whole "First, do no harm" oath that physicians take? Dr. Pamela Denson must not have been paying attention to that part, just like she wasn't paying attention when I told her why I was there: a third or fourth degree perineal tear, due to childbirth. It is extremely painful and extremely delicate, and thus extremely important for her to listen to me telling her that I have it, and then take that information ("I have a perineal tear") and apply it to the situation, in this case, the exam. She either wasn't listening when I told her, or she didn't care, because she did an exam as usual (and must be rough even with people who have no issues or injuries). The exam was so painful that I had to cry out, causing her to say "it's ok, it's almost over," as if I was a regular patient with no injury who was slightly uncomfortable. She then did a breast exam (after I had told her I was breastfeeding) and seemed shocked and worried at what she was feeling (milk, duh!), and then after a few moments said "oh, are you breastfeeding?" Fast forward a few weeks later, and I am still in extreme pain every time I use the bathroom, and I am also having bleeding each time I use the bathroom, which was not the case when I went in to see her. I was concerned about my injury and leaving the country soon, which is why I went to see Dr. Denson in the first place - just to have it looked at and make sure everything was ok. Rather than check it out and perhaps give me something to help it along, she injured me even worse, and also traumatized me. I am now out of the country for some time and must find a doctor who can try to undo the damage she did, as well as help me with the original problem. I just hope the damage Dr. Denson did is not irreversible. Bottom line: Run, don't walk, to any other doctor on the planet. Dr. Denson is not just incompetent; she is dangerous.
