I love the name of this place! As I walk down each aisle and throw copious amounts of goodies in my…read moretrolley, I know I'm going to Dai Phat (Die Fat). Not too sure if that's the pronunciation but let's just go with it hey! As I enter the door I'm greeted by staff who know me by name. They really like to get to know the regulars and it does make it feel like we are friends. Well they have food? Hello! I'll be anyone's bestie when it involves food. I cook a lot of Asian food, like 90% of my family meals. This place is right around the corner from me, but even not I would still travel to come here. Each week there is always something new and interesting I find and want to try. They have trolleys and baskets. I always, ALWAYS opt for the trolley since making the mistake of carrying a basket once and it was completely overloaded. I always have intentions of coming in 'just for a few things' but it never ends that way. From a huge freezer section to the left full of seafood, dumplings and vegan meat alternatives to name a few. A cool open fridge section with a huge variety of drinks, kimchi, tofu and vegetables. I could go on and on about the copious amounts of sauces, condiments, dried herbs, tinned foods, but you really need to go and see for yourself. What I love most is that they don't just stock one asian cuisine. I especially love the Indonesian and Japanese sections. There is also a butcher in the back. I'd love to buy organic but that's a pipeline dream for now. The chicken, beef and pork here is of great quality and fantastically priced. I'm talking under $10/kg for nearly every cut of meat. I make super savings by buying majority of my meats here. The only thing they don't stock is lamb and not a huge range of beef. So my fellow Yelp-tastic peeps. If you are in need of an Asian grocery store in the Western Suburbs then come and shop here. Then we can all eat, be merry and Dai Phat together!

They specialise in imported sweets, like Hersheys, Yorkie and Reeses Pieces, as well as imported soft drinks. They have the largest range of Pop Tarts I've ever laid eyes on, including flavours like "choc fudge", "cookies and cream", "s'mores" and "ice creme sandwich." They also sell fresh fudge at $3.95 per 100gram blocks. Mmmm, fudge. This place is a child's dream and a mother's worst nightmare. You can get a sugar-high just thinking about all the things you'd buy if you had the money, weighed 20 kilos less and knew it wouldn't give you a headache. One little favourite of mine is the gob-stopper, an enormous ball of sugar on a stick in wacky colours, for only $1.50! Pity any of my friends with children would hate me for giving them these, though the reactions on both sides would probably be worth it. This seems to be new to the centre, so isn't yet listed on the directories, yet it's right out the front of the West Lakes Newsagency. Just look out for pink and you'll no doubt spot it.

This place has everything, from the old favourites to imported goodies. I brought lots from here for my wedding, for our lollie bar (which unsurprisingly was a massive hit). My fave would have to be the homemade fudge (soooo smooth and rich). I come in here and see so many lollies I haven't seen since I was a kid.
