ELDER ABUSE: Red…read moreRock Pointe is the Las Vegas location of Resort Lifestyle Communities. The company business model offers over-priced, under-sized apartments along with dining services for one monthly fee. The company leans heavily upon the "Executive Chef" and the "Freedom Dining Program" to entice prospective renters. This is necessary because otherwise, nobody will pay $5k/mo for a 759 square foot apartment. The promise made to senior citizens and their children is this: We are operating a luxury cruise ship on the ground. All you do is have fun, while our staff takes care of the rest. The reality: The "Executive Chef" has ZERO training. The food is inedible. The soups are created using Las Vegas tap water (you don't want to drink it). The building has significant structural issues (plumbing leaks everywhere), the staff is fluid. Meaning, they won't be there long. The average employee has less than 2 months tenure. The community has had 4 managers in 1 year. 3 sales directors in 1 year. 4 Chefs in 1 year. 19 people have had the job of concierge in the 14 months since they opened. The residents are treated with disrespect (translate: they get yelled at) if they provide honest feedback to the managers. Additionally, if they contact Dan Hebenstreit, the corporate Director of Field Operations, he simply has them evicted in the hopes of "limiting the negativity". In other words, if you complain, they will make you homeless. Management regularly attempts to make senior residents who complain appear to be unreasonable to their children (who often pay the bill) . STEER CLEAR OF RED ROCK POINT!!! RLC will take your money and NOT deliver on their promises.

We were generally impressed by how friendly and welcoming the staff and residents were and the abundance of activities to choose among. However, we were disappointed by the environmental and nutritional aspects of Acacia Springs. There was no robust system for recycling, and none at all for composting. The dining program almost totally ignored the expert consensus that Americans would improve their health (and the environment) by consuming smaller quantities of meat. 100% of the menu entrées were animal-based, and the vegetables were relegated to small "sides", some of which were marked as good sources of fiber or low in sodium (OK, but that suggests that everything else on the menu is NOT a good source of fiber or is HIGH in sodium!). A resident wanting to avoid animal-based foods altogether was forced to choose between veggieburgers and Greek salad with the feta cheese removed, while carnivors got 2 varied entrée options to choose from. The only plant-based milk alternative was ultra-sugared almond milk, and the only vegetable juice was high-sodium V8. Meal components such as salad dressings and oatmeal raisins were served in separate little plastic cups even if the resident asked for them to be mixed in, exacerbating the plastic-waste footprint of the facility.

There are no words to express the gratitude I have for the care provided to my father by the TLC…read morefamily. Prior to TLC my father was in at least three "memory care units" where lots of promises were made regarding the patient-centered care that would be provided and the expertise of handling any difficult behavioral problems that come with the progression of Alzheimer's. As a nurse practitioner, I thought I had done my due diligence with researching the facilities. I was wrong. With the covid shut down in March 2020, many of the facilities housing elderly took advantage of the fact that families could no longer check on loved ones physically and a lot of negligence occurred. My father was moved three times during this time as I tried to find the best care. What did Tender Loving Care provide that these other facilities did not? 1. As with any patient with dementia, moving them to a new facility can be very difficult. The transition can cause them to progress in dementia and not recover. It can increase behavioral disturbances during the adjustment period. My father was already having issues with agitation when needing to have his brief changed/bathing so the staff already had their hands full when he came over. Dr. McGivney and Kerri were amazing and worked very closely with me to make changes to his medication regimen to reduce the behavioral disturbances to allow the staff to care for my father. Once he was stable, the doctor would reassess with the goal of reducing medications as needed depending on dad's response. There is not one facility out there that I know that would spend this individualized attention with a patient. The staff is watching the resident daily and reporting back to Kerri and Dr. McGivney on medication response. 2. The staff truly got to know my father and what he liked. When they asked for the list of things he liked they actually used that information to learn how to get him to engage with the community. I would come in to visit and he would be in his "office" writing for work. He would be at the desk reading the newspaper while the staff was also sitting with him engaged with activities. Staff found out he liked to organize and clean, they would have him helping them and encouraging him, meeting him at his level . These were the biggest differences between TLC and other institutions. My father felt safe, happy, and content here. 3. The amazing backyard/courtyard for the residents. Lots of natural light inside the house. Previous facilities promised he could freely walk outside in the locked outdoor courtyard yet at each facility I would find out from my father they were all locked and a loud alarm would go off thus my Dad not wanting to go out. He loved being outside and this was the reason I had chosen those facilities !! At TLC, it was truly open and unlocked so residents could freely go outside in the backyard. This is so critical especially with the COVID shutdown that residents can get fresh air and sunshine. 4. Maintain all the COVID precautions. 5. I could go on and on with all the little things the staff did to let me know how much they cared for my father but there isn't enough space here. Thank you TLC for everything

However, they were and still are short staffed with wait times after pressing call button of sometimes one hour. The quality of the food leaves much to be desired. So I wound up buying my own groceries and often times making my own lunch and dinner. The weight staff in the dining room does the best they can, however, in my opinion, with the exception of the head cook, the cooks don't know what they are doing. Often times you will wait one hour after ordering your food to get it, and then more often it is ice cold. Add it to that, it often tastes disgusting. There are residents here, but that belong in memory care or in a nursing home. There are residents here that are a danger to the other residents and even though we report them to the powers that be, nothing is done. I am happy to be saying I'm moving out of this place because I can and also because the price is way too high for the services that I use. Carefully research the place you are looking for to live in for yourself or a loved one. Walk in at different times of the day. Try to experience the food and the dining experience for yourself more than just once. Talk to the residents and ask a lot of questions. I would not recommend living here. And I hope and never come back to an facility, but if I do, it will not be this one.

I keep hearing how bad the food is there, though I have never tried it myself. There have been multiple times that my grandmother has had injuries that staff had not been keeping up on the cleaning and care of the wounds. Down side is that when your loved one has to go to the hospital for more than one day, they empty their room and give it to another person. This has happened many times, resulting in my grandmother having to split a room with someone else until another private room opens up. In doing so, she has had a few room mates pass away and watch them get carried out. This has left her scared of dying and a little hopeless. I do like the views of the surrounding mountains and I am glad my grandmother has a great view of the mountains from her room. Another thing I do appreciate is that they allowed my grandmother do bring in her own belongings to the room to make it feel like her place.

Did they tell me that I was supposed to be at the building next door that happens to be the low care residential part of the complex?? Nope. Not either time. Did they tell me that they didn't like the was I was "walking too slowly" and that I was going to be "hurried up?" Yes. I remarked that I am handicapped and the officious enormous security guard said " o no ma'am. This has nothing to do with a disability." I then saw what looked like a place to drop off and asked and the security guard physically menaced me. The nurse who had jumped to threatening me with jail time with her second sentence was smugly laughing with her arms crossed (so obviously this was not about anything but power) I commented to the person for whom I was dropping off that this place should not be trusted.
