This place is absolutely delicious!! My girlfriends family told us about this spot even though they never eat out. They're Jamaican and prefer to cook there own food at home but they said if they were going to eat out , it's going to be Spring Gardens. We got the chicken curry, oxtail with gravy, and curry goat. All were flavored to perfection! Oxtail was juicy, soft , tender and fall off the bone. Just the way I like it. Curry Chicken and Curried Goat were so flavorful, seasoned perfectly, savory, the goat was sooooo soft and the chicken was divine. These pwoolen are just plain rude and have disgusting attitudes that turn you off from the food. The food is usually quite tasty but the weekend food has been horrible and a safety hazard to consume. The hottest peppers are used and seemed to burst in the food n they still serve it. This abnormal amount of pepper is most commonly consumed by rum heads and alchilics not reg people trying to enjoy a meal or feed children. The jerk pork is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING - definitely recommend this as well as the vegetarian stew peas. Both dishes were unbelievable and so flavorful. They also make their own juices - all of them are great but my favorite is the cucumber juice (and it's all natural!) However, after my last experience, I am compelled to write an honest, unpleasant review. My first bad experience was sometime last summer. I bought a small order of oxtail and rice&peas to find hair shavings throughout the container. After almost a year, I worked up the courage to go there again last Tuesday. Immediately after drinking half of the cornmeal porridge, my stomach began to burn. This was strange to me as I do not have a sensitive stomach. Whenever I get done with my volunteering during most Saturdays, I try to venture around the area to new places that would serve oxtail over rice! I yelped this one up, and it was close by to where I was and gave it a try. I'm glad I went! I think I will be coming back more often. I feel it caters more to locals. There was a soccer game going on and a lot of the men there were watching and conversing with each other. The place is very small and seems to be consistently packed, but there are seatings. Chances are, it's better to just to-go it and enjoy their delicious food at the comfort of your own home. I really enjoyed the oxtail over rice here. It's seasoned very well, not too salty but packs a lot of flavor. Their rice and beans is very good too. It comes with sides - vegetables or mac n cheese and the small platter comes out to be $10. I thought that was reasonable since they really packed my platter. I paid with cash - didn't check if they took card or not. Usually at joints like these, I just bring cash. Spring Gardens came at the recommendation of my airbnb host and given that it sometimes have a tough time finding great food in Queens, I recently gave it a try. I was frustrated that Caribbean basics like kingfish and shrimp weren't available, and instead told that they were typically reserved for weekend orders. You can get anything from a D&G soda , carrot juice , soursop juice, coconut water, or just plain water. They also have baked goods available for sale. If you're in the mood for something different you can call ahead and order what you want. One time I was craving curry shrimp so I ordered it and picked it up. It did not disappoint. I will continue coming here again and again. I love it. One tip i have... the large meal is only $2 more than the medium. You get a substantial amount more, so just go for the better value. The lady behind the counter gave me the cold shoulder though and I could not help but wonder if I was being discriminated against on the basis of my race. I asked for the prices and she said it depends, but wouldn't break it down. She said I couldn't have the greens with my meal, I'd have to have them in a separate container. I visited this restaurant on 8/01/19 the food is normally good although depending on the time of the day it can be off from time to time but yesterday was the worst i ever had. I ordered oxtail with rice & peas and a side of mac and cheese. Let me start by saying the mac n cheese was ok but it had no real flavor. The oxtail were tender but i had a plate full of the bone more then meat . And the worst part of it all was the rice & peas. The rice taste burnt and the peas were so tough it come like they never soak the peas before them cook or boil them rather. I was so upset with the food i started to carry it back.
