The highlight, other than the many event nights (Tusedays for movies), has to be the large garden with patio heaters and a long covered area with more heaters. Not to mention the decent range of ales, spirits and wines that are at fair prices too. I think one of the most appealing features of the pub is the family atmosphere, and there have always been a lot of activities for kids of a variety of ages that they are always improving/expanding. On my last visit a few months ago, there was a very large soft-play area with ball pits and a large outdoor climbing frame. The only negative thing that I could say about the pub is that it can get quite cramped on a Friday/Saturday night especially.

The Smithy is a perfectly reasonable village pub, quite large for the location. What makes the difference and keeps my repeat custom is the food. The meals are HUMUNGOUS, and ridiculously cheap (pound of lamb chops with the usual for 8 quid? Pound of steak and a mountain of chips for under a tenner?). Sure it's not Cordon Bleu, but it is unquestionably fit for purpose. I've never had a bad meal here, and it's a place I come back to again and again. One nice touch for smokers is the marquee outside the smoking area is surrounded by walls on three sides so you can have a fag without freezing to death. I only wish they'd ditch that awful Magners and get some decent cider in!

I almost went through the whole menu :). Never been disappointed with a special for the courgette and mint soup (I didn't know it was that good) and the pimm's with lemonade.. The food there is very good, the portions are quite big and last but not least it's not expensive. The service is very effective and fast. People working there are kind and they always smile.
