I have an embarrassing confession to make folks. I failed "Textiles" at school. Worse then that though, I failed after getting my Mum to help make my projects. Proving once and for all that sewing does not run in my family. So as someone who has no idea how to sew a hem that lasts more then 24 hours I can happily say that this store gave me what i needed. Access to cheap fabric to use in art projects without all that sewing lark. Well this shop is no-frills (pun totally intended) in atmosphere and is unsurprisingly packed with fabric and all the haberdashery and trimmings you need to turn your cloth into fashion. They have patterns and accessories to help you on your way too. Friendly folk and fabric. That is all.

Strategically placed next to a gallery "I could paint that! Oh look heres a paint store" St Luke is a richly stocked store that caters for the serious art/craft individuals. The range of paints and materials is extensive and the staff are happy to explain their various uses/potential. When I say serious artists I mean serious prices for example a 60ml 'Heavy body acrylic' averages around $17 and around $60 for the more interesting metallic paints (200ml). 'St Luke' also offers art classes, custom canvas stretching and a unique range of stock that really cements itself as an artists retail haven.

Some will find it overpriced and tragic, but it's all in good fun and the staff are lovely. Worth a sticky beak if you're at the market.

This is one of those shops that basically sells random stuff for your house. I basically came here…read morebecause I was looking for a place that sold picture frames, and while they do, they tend to be standard sizes, and the ones that I ended up with didn't really fit any of the pictures that I wanted to frame (they are namely for photographs, not Monet prints brought all the way over from France). However the frames are only a small part of what this place has to offer namely because they have heaps of things that easily fall into the category of decorations, especially statues. Mind you the things they sell aren't exactly what you would consider useful items, rather things that are designed to add a bit of life to one's abode. Still, they have some pretty cool things here, and if you are in to fantasy statues then this is definitely a place to check out.

Let me preface this review by saying I run a fashion label and we use M Recht for a range of…read morehaberdashery supplies. You can shop here as a retail buyer (ie. purchase in retail quantities rather than wholesale) but it's primarily a wholesale / commercial outlet. M Recht stocks everything you can possibly think of that is fashion related that isn't actually fabric. Buttons, zips, shoulder pads, bra wire, thread, measuring tapes, toggles, ribbon... you get the idea. If there's a very specific type of item you're looking for (say, an denim button with a red enamel coating) you're better off going somewhere that specialised in it. If you need something fairly generic though, it's a great place to go. The staff are really helpful and they have product across many price points. We use them for denim zips that 'lock' when they're closed (so your fly doesn't fall down) and 'unlock' when you intentionally undo them. If you're in the industry and you use a local manufacturer, they deliver daily to most places for about $5.
