I've tried to shop more ethically, honest I have. But something about this store keeps driving me back. I thought I was cured when all Bristol had to offer was the worst of the worst Primark's, with their poor selection and disorganised layout. But then they opened a super-store sized outlet and I just couldn't resist. I'm not saying it's the best one I've been to, and I've been to MANY, but I've never come out empty handed. My favourite thing about the brand new shiny Primark is their range of accessories which take up almost a third of the ground floor. Their underwear department is a bit lacking, but their sparkly dresses and cheap hosiery more than make up for it. The queues are still long, and you need a patient of a saint to trawl through the rails, but compared to most Primark stores this one is well managed and easy to navigate.

Imagine having a fine store crammed full of wonderful shoes and boots (Ladies fashion ground floor…read moreGents upper floor) with quality oozing out the door in the breeze only to find your address is Cheap Street. It's not what you think though as the name Cheap Street comes from the medieval word 'Cheap' or 'ceap' meaning 'to sell' and more loosely to 'market'. I got a wonderful pair of quality black leather shoes here that fit me perfectly at size 11. I got them at under half retail price too. The sales assistant was very helpful and pleasant but upselling appears to now be necessary in this less caring society. She endeavoured to sell me the internal wooden shoe shapers with one set around £20 and another £40 waving one at me. I politely declined but next it was a machine that would protect the leather from staining (for 3 months) at £4 so I agreed to this then she tried to sell me polish. I declined and as this point it has become tedious, I just wanted away. I began to think that I was in a Monty Python sketch. This is a chain of shops with an 160 years of history and a company that had a visit from Queen Elizabeth II in 1955. It began in 1857 when an Alfred and Emma Jones opened a footwear shop in Bayswater, London. They were parents to 11 sons and three daughters. Nine of the 11 sons were apprenticed into the trade where each went on to open their own stores trading under the name A. Jones & Sons, and so it began. Interestingly the Joneses were the first traders to install electric lighting into their shops. Who knew.

And that's before you reach the glorious, plush nook at the back of the shop where dozens of fur coats, leather jackets and bags brush against each other, giving a rustling call for you to drape them over your shoulders. It's hard to leave RePsycho, mainly because it is, actually, quite hard to leave; it's very cramped and stuffed with stock from ceiling to floor, wall to wall, and it can become a bit of a slalom if more than two people are inside. It's also awkward getting out if you're the only person in there and you haven't bought anything. It's the kind of small boutiquey environment that's staffed by people who are intensely passionate about what they're selling, so you can't really slip out empty-handed without offering a slightly grovelling "thank you", wearing your best "I'm sorry" expression as you open the door. Of course, as with any vintage shop, you get the best experience when you're prepared to invest time looking through all the racks and all the shelves and battling through lots of questionable stuff in order to find something gorgeous at a price you're willing to pay. RePsycho is one of those shops that can provide hours of silly fun if you take a friend and play dress-ups (and do your best to stop worrying about the shop assistant hearing you talking about how hideous some of the things are), but it's also good for intensive, solitary shopping when you're on a quest for those perfect Betty Draper-esque white court shoes.
