Since I was going to be in Germany for 6 months without a car, I decided to buy a bicycle. I'm an…read moreavid cyclist and already own 5 bikes, so I didn't want to buy a type that I already had. I decided I wanted a fat bike, and since I was in Germany, I also wanted a German brand. I had an excellent experience buying a bicycle from the B-Site! The owner David was friendly, spoke perfect English, and was a complete professional. He listened to my needs and pointed me to exactly what I was looking for with no shady attempts at up-selling. He sized me up using some kind of German laser guided computer program and determined I needed a size medium for the bikes he carried in stock. He made sure the saddle height and stem length was correct for every bike I test rode. During my test of a Specialized fat bike, I was surprised at its incredible grip at turns and how light it felt despite the oversized tires. However, I did not want an American bike. David told me he could order a Bergamont and gave me a catalog that had its pictures. It looked pretty good so I put a 100 euro deposit on it. The bike was not going to arrive for a few days so David told me he could lend me a bicycle in the meantime. He lent me a beautiful cusrtom carbon hardtail 29er worth about 4000 euro. He didn't even ask me for collateral or an ID or anything. He just trusted me. I enjoyed the heck out of that bike for the few days I had it. In a way, his lending it to me was kind of diabolical because, damn, now I want a carbon hardtail! Anyway, eventually my fatbike arrived. I did not get out of work until his shop closed, but his business partner Helko (I hope I have his name right) kept the store open until I arrived. It was absolutely beautiful and assembled perfectly. To my surprise, my bike came with a complementary water bottle, bottle cage, and bike computer installed! I bought a few other items and to make the whole experience even sweeter, I used a VAT form and did not have to pay the 19% German tax. In summary:
Pros:
1. Excellent service
a. They will listen to your needs/wants and find you the right bike
b. They measure your body and size you up correctly
c. No pushy up-selling
2. They speak perfect English, so no language barrier
3. Good selection of German bikes as well as Specialized Bikes. Everything they carry is quality.
4. Complementary water bottle, water bottle cage, and computer
5. Technical expertise - your bicycle will be assembled perfectly
6. They accept VAT forms (as a foreign visitor, you will not have to pay the 19% sales tax)
7. They lent me an amazing bicycle while I waited for mine to arrive
8. They agreed to box my bike when it is time for me to leave Germany
Cons:
1. They are closed during lunch hours, Sundays, and after 6 PM.
In short, if you are in Baumholder and looking for a bicycle, don't buy a shitty one that was shoddily assembled from the PX. Get it from The B-Site and you will not be disappointed.
