I love Collin! I've had issues this year, and the 3 times I've went in for treatment. I felt noticeably better compared to the treatments I've signed up for this year. His listening skills, bed side manners and confidence to IMS/dry needle you is muy bueno. Collin is a keeper. read more

I've seen many different ones and there's not a lot of physio therapists that I have seen in the past that have actually helped me for the pain that I'm going through, usually 5-10 mins of discussion and on site treatment and then they send you home with a gazillion exercises that I never do and therefore do not get any results. If you are like me and want results another way, then this is the place and Colin is the guy. I see Colin Miller for physio and he specializes in IMS. Although it can be quite painful at times, IMS has been the only thing that gives me relief when I have back or shoulder pain. Trust me when I tell you that it's worth it. He does great work and I have yet to seek his help and not get results and I have been a client for over 5 years. read more

Colin did not know how to deal with a complex issue with thickened hard tissue. He charges a lot of $$money$$ for none 1 to 1 personal care. I spent about a thousand dollars at this clinic without him knowing what to do and non-personal care. It is not one to one care and he attends to another client and gives music for cliens to listen to while he is with another client. He gave up on me and told Tony about my issue as he did not want to accept me as a client either the receptionist told me. He was too rigid on needling and no hands on manipulation to feel my tissue. He told me he did not think the treatments would work. He lacks insights on what to do and moved on to someone else who gives personal care unlike Colin. read more

The couple of times I visited this clinic they were very busy. The physiotherapist had to bounce between clients. I prefer 1:1 physio care, where the practitioner is with me for the majority of my appointment. They focus mostly on IMS treatment which I do like. I would recommend that this clinic add 20, 30, and 40min appointments so they don't have to bounce between clients/leaving them waiting. During my hour appointments I was attended to for 20-30min max with my appointments starting late and ending early. read more

I came here for the very first time one year ago when I tore a muscle in my inner knee from a sports injury. Jason Lee is AMAZING. I went from not being able to put any weight on my right knee, let alone walk, to being able to stumble around in no time. I did IMS treatment (very painful but works!!) and some ultrasound along with getting some exercises to strengthen. One year later, I went for a revisit because things are starting to act up again. It felt like no time had passed by and I was just there last month. Jason is very friendly, understanding and patient. He goes thru all the exercises with you and explains what each does and what you're trying to accomplish. The receptionist is always friendly as well. I love that they have an online booking system which makes it very easy for me to find appointments that work for me. Highly recommend this place. and Jason! read more

Being referred to this place was a game changer.. I have been seeing Colin Miller for some IMS treatments and it literally changed my life for the better. I was on disability for two years with brutal neck and back pain. Plenty of issues from bone and disc degeneration, spinal stenosis and more. This has fixed me. My quality of life is improved 110%. I'm a guy that has his back "go out" because he doesn't stretch and strengthen his core as much as he should. I use Chiro monthly for adjustments but I wanted to try something different. A few trainers at my gym have had good results with Colin Miller, so I thought what have I got to loose? - "except what did they say about it's going to be painful?" Different is called IMS - the idea is that the needles will stimulate or reset muscles that are tight or not functioning to full potential as well as improve blood flow. I believe that it worked in my case. I saw improved range of motion for sure. I didn't think IMS was all that bad, until Colin got my calf muscles. I can't even let my wife or daughter tickle my calfs without screaming and thrashing away. Super glad I held it together over the 3 treatments I've had. That could have been embarrassing. As for the pain after treatment. It's not too bad - like a good workout after missing a few months of activity. Sore muscles. I was able to continue bike commuting and only missed 1 day of classes at the gym. Oh, I should also mention that the needles were front & back all over my body - working from mid back to low calf - about 20 to 30 spots each treatment give or take. This is not acupuncture folks. What did Colin call it again?? ... "an athlete's tune up" I thought it sounded better than "a dad bod tune up" so I went for it! I'll say this in conclusion... If you've had trouble with pain in the past and nothing seems to work. I'd suggest visiting Colin to see if he's able to help you. I'm still working on doing my part to keep my back pain free because I'm sure help from people like Colin is just part of the solution of staying healthy and pain free. In most cases, I'd bet that if you think one visit or a few treatments is going to "cure" you... you might not get what you think. At least my calfs aren't as ticklish as the used to be ;) read more

Out of all the therapies I have tried, Colin's technique using IMS is by far the best treatment I've ever received. I've suffered many injuries and had chronic pain my entire life and I've seen a difference in only 3 visits. It's quite remarkable how I feel to be honest. I highly recommend Colin if you can't find pain relief from your massage therapist, chiropractor or acupuncturist. read more

I've been dealing with chronic lower back issues, resulting from a weight lifting incident, for over 10 years now. Aside from my lower back just being sore and immobile, other symptoms included incredibly tight calve and hamstring muscles. Every morning I would wake up and I would just be sore and tight, which sucked. I had tried everything to try and fix my back, from yoga to stretching to other physiotherapists, but I found I was only managing the issue with these techniques as opposed to getting to the root of the problem. . Still, after 10 years I had pretty much given up. I figured my back was the way it was, and I was just going to have to accept it. Through serendipity I learned about the Intramuscular Stimulation method offered by Colin Miller at sport and spinal. The person who had experienced it couldn't stop raving about it. When I learned that she had flown in from California to get the treatment, and that she had been recommended by someone who came from New York, I was intrigued. I mean, California and New York are big places. You're telling me that you flew to Vancouver to experience a therapy that wasn't available in those places? Then and there I decided that the next time I did a number on my back I would check this guy out for myself. So, a few months went by and, as I had gotten used to, I had a major back flare up. My lower back muscles were so tight I could barely move or even sit in a chair. I spend a few days just lying on the floor, as that was about all I could do. Still, I was able to crawl to my phone and make the call to Sport and Spinal, and boy, am I glad I did. After the first session full mobility was restored. The relief I felt from the session was instantaneous. In the subsequent 4 sessions the tightness that had plagued my lower back was resolved. The constant tightness and soreness that I had lived with for years was gone, and I could move like a normal person. Amazing! Full disclosure. In order to get anything good in life you have to give something, and in this case the cost is some pain. The first few times you undergo the Intramuscular Stimulation procedure you will likely find it quite painful. However, that will decrease substantially with future visits. The question you have to ask yourself is do you want to experience 10 minutes of pain in order to gain a lifetime of health and wellness? I know what my decision was, and I'm glad I did. And this is from a guy who doesn't like to pull band-aids off! Can you handle it like I did? I bet you can, and you'll be glad you did too. read more

I shattered my ankle May 30th, 2011 and it very well could have been the end of my professional career as a skateboarder. My ankle was broken in 4 places; 2 plates, 9 screws later and I was supposed heal up in a few months, and possibly could return to skateboarding at the same level in a year, maybe more. I tried a few physiotherapists to start off and couldn't find someone who would take my recovery and eventual return to skateboarding as seriously as I was. After a few visits to recommended places and highly rated offices, a colleague suggested Rick at Sport and Spinal. With Richard (Rick) Boden's help, I was able to return to skateboarding on September 17th, followed by competing in the World Championships on the 20th of November. I qualified 1st, against one of the strongest international fields ever assembled. Rick's thorough knowledge of recovery, exercises, and the use of the right equipment at the right times really did it for me. His IMS technique was one of the most potent recovery techniques. Rick's ability with IMS softened my tendons, ligaments and muscles after hard training sessions with my personal trainer allowing me to be back in the gym the very next day. This combined with willpower and a healthy mind and body got me out on the track far sooner than I or my doctor's thought possible. The team at Sport and Spinal is incredible. Their location is super clean, comfortable, stylish, and always well attended by kind staff (even their music choice was on point). Their physiotherapists are top notch, as evidenced by my miraculous recovery. Location is great, easy to reach by train, bicycle or car and there's always plentiful parking out front on Homer St. (parking downtown is a nightmare usually so it was a nice change). You will not be disappointed, especially with Rick! Visit Sport and Spinal and get your life back. 11 out of 10. THANK YOU RICK! read more

Sport & Spinal came highly recommended by several people and I was lucky enough to get an appointment to see Colin, (thanks to a last minute cancellation). I'm a mother of three young children and I walked into Sport & Spinal in tremendous pain and feeling defeated, having been told elsewhere that my injury was serious and I would not be able to use my arm/shoulder for at least a month! (For a full time mom, that is just impossible) After ONE, (aggressive & intense) treatment I woke up the next day with easily 50% more mobility and almost no pain. A week later I have full mobility. I cannot say enough about Colin. For me, it felt like nothing short of a miracle, though it's clear that for Colin it's about years and years of perfecting his art and having the intuition to know what's best for his patients. Will recommend him to anyone and everyone! read more

After reading the other reviews, I wondered if Sport and Spinal really needed another recommendation but they are all such excellent professionals, I will add to the praise. Over the years I have had several sports related injuries and Colin in particular has been very skilled at quickly addressing the neck, back, hamstring and quad issues! There have been head to toe problems from a variety of sports and just active living, including over use injuries, but without fail, I get realigned and the muscles fired up and working again. IMS treatments are often painful but always effective and after one or two sessions, I am back on track. Occasionally, a longer series of treatments are required but with the helpful stretches and exercises recommended, I am only down for a short time, but never out of the game. read more

I had some work related shoulder and neck issues that were exasperated by some snow board lessons. Basically keeping my head turned down the mountain for much of the day resulted in constant stiffness and soreness of my neck and shoulder, and that was leading to some real head aches. I saw Richard twice (in two weeks) for some of that needling therapy, the Dr. Ho electric pad thing and some stretches. Neck/shoulder was fixed up and I've been recommending him to others ever since. read more

I have been suffering from chronic back pain for the last 3-4 years and nothing seemed to do the trick. After going from physio to physio I was exhausted and thought nothing would work -- until I came to sport and spinal!! After only 3 sessions with Collin Miller I am almost fully improved. Amazing that he could do for me in 3 sessions what nobody could in 3+ years! Collin is a great physio and along with the helpful treatment, he takes time with you and there is no rush at all. I would highly recommend seeing Collin if you truly want to get better! read more

I've had a herniated disk for years that's been bothering me on and off. About a month ago I had a terrible flare up that confined me to my bed for most of the day, yet no relief can be found in any position as sciatica runs down my leg. I've seen other physiotherapists before for years and nothing really helped much so I wasn't really addressing the problem other than with painkillers. However, I had an upcoming trip in 2 and a half weeks and I really didn't want to miss out on the opportunity so I decided to give Colin a try without a lot of expectations. After all, I've had this problem for 15 years and all the physiotherapists, chiropractors and acupuncturists haven't been able to do much. To my amazement, with IMS after the first session my pain had reduced by 60-70%! I was able to walk around again and do regular tasks and errands! I saw Colin twice a week for only 5 sessions and by the 3rd session I was feeling 100%! The pain was completely gone and I had a great time on my trip! No recurring pain at all despite taking two 5 hour flights in 24 hours! Usually flying makes my back cramp up and my sciatica come back, but I had no problems at all. Colin also helped some of my family members with recurring hip and neck pain as well all with great success. The treatment hurts like crazy but it really works! There's no doubt in my mind that if I have any problems, Colin is the first one I'm going to call. read more

My experience with this clinic has be exceptionally positive. I came in two weeks ago with a shoulder injury. I could barely raise my arm over my head. Literally, one week of following instructions for movements has improved my mobility immensely. I'm slowly back practicing yoga and am on the path to recovery! I highly recommend asking for Dr. Jason Lee. A big shout out to him for supporting my health and wellness. I'm grateful and appreciative for his help! read more

This was my third time seeing Colin and I'm writing this review for anyone who needs care in a space with oblivious white men in positions of power: Consider finding an IMS practitioner who is better informed on trauma, doesn't pretend their "full-on" approach is a way to justify blatant verbal transgressions. I'm sorry that finding practitioners who ARE informed and responsible is difficult. But they're out there and better serve our communities as womxn, poc, queer folks with various lived experiences. It is a classic situation where the resources are mostly with these white men so there is pressure to "put up with the bad stuff" and get your treatment, but this just isn't worth it. Colin is a textbook example of a white man who ignores the responsibility of understanding his own privilege. My last appointment was devastating and Colin would be the last to know, because that's how this works. Asking your patient without warning if they were sexually abused as a child is unacceptable. It is not transparent, it is jarring, potentially triggering, and your needles won't pick up the pieces. From there, when you are about to exit the room DO NOT ruffle the hair of your younger female patients. Unsolicited touch, especially in a space that is already so potentially triggering, and in such a fucked up, infantilizing way, is absurdly unacceptable. Like, I can't believe I have to write this shit down. My smiles at the time were a defense response. I will never be going back to IMS with this person and wanted to put this review up for anyone else who might be affected by irresponsible white men in positions of power coming in contact with your body! read more
Please be advised that my review is completely out of my own personal thoughts and feelings from my own experience at Sport & Spinal and may not reflect what is the usual practise or what you may encounter at your visit. I went into Sport & Spinal with upper back tension and pain due to some prescription medication causing my muscles to seize up in my back. From the get go, Colin knew what was bothering me once I started telling him how my doctor started me on this new prescription medication that got me really wired within 2 days of taking it. He was able to finish my sentence and was able to identify the symptoms without even placing a hand on me. I was really impressed and I remain so today. The reason why my visit amounts to a 1 star is because immediately once I laid down on the physicians bed, adjustments or cracks were made to my neck and spine without any notice to me. I did not realize I needed them so you could imagine how surprised I was to hear my neck and spine being cracked. I was told, however, to wrap my arms around me and to be in a certain position when he did this. I was also told that the neck adjustment was something I needed for a long time. He then assessed my back and asked if I wanted the pain to go away that day. I asked if that was possible and he told me yes and went and grabbed his instruments (his dry needling/IMS needles). I jokingly asked him if it would hurt when he came back and he told me that there would be some discomfort, and that only the muscles that are unhealthy will hurt. He then proceeded to needle me in various parts of my upper, lower back, spinal area, neck, and in the base of my skull. I was in a lot of pain and was sniffling as he was needling every single point. After the IMS needling was done, he proceeded to place what he described as 'equivalent to 30 massage machine' pads on my back, shoulder, and arm, and told me to relax for awhile. I was told when I was leaving that I would be very sore, as if I had an intense workout, and that if my upper back/shoulders continued to hurt in a few days, I needed to return for more treatment. I left with my arm so sore and my back in so much pain that my range of motion was decreased and my left arm could not hold up my handbag. I got on the westcoast train and was in so much pain sitting that I was almost in tears coming home. I tried to go do my usual fitness class two days after the session and found that I could not do a single thing I use to be able to do (planks. squats, sit ups, push ups, and light weights) and did not have any strength in my upper body. Mind you, I was not told to avoid any exercise or to do any exercises after my session other than to take a soak with epsom salts. Within a few days of my session, the soreness wore off and I started having intense pain in my upper and lower back, base of my skull, neck. and there would be loud cracking noises whenever I turned my head and rolled my shoulders. I could no longer sit at my desk job without having intense pain and strain by lunch time. I ended up going to another physiotherapist 2 weeks later that told me that the treatment I received, while may be accurate in the long run, was way too aggressive for someone who has never received physiotherapy and most likely created additional pain for me. My doctor has now prescribed me anti-inflammatory pain medication for the daily pain and I use a heat patch on my neck and back during the day so that I can carry on my daily tasks. I went to a massage therapist a week after my painful session with Sport & Spinal and was told that I had very dark bruising on my left side from where the massage pads were placed and multiple knots in my back. She thought the bruising was from cupping therapy and was surprised that it was from physiotherapy instead. So while I understand that Sport & Spinal has great reviews online and has helped a lot of individuals with their different symptoms, I believe it may not be for me who have had no physiotherapy before or was not aware of what kind of therapy is available from a physiotherapist. My upper back/shoulder tension/strain became much much worse that now requires adjustments to be made at my work (a raised up desk, and spinal cushion chair), heat to be used almost 24/7, massage therapy, accupuncture, prescription medication, and another physiotherapists care. I recommend anyone unfamiliar with what therapy physiotherapists can do to first read up on the different techniques, and to ask lots of questions. Also, if adjustments are not your thing - speak up and tell them! I, unfortunately, was not given notice with what was going to be done and is now faced with a lot more treatment for the next while to correct this. I was very reluctant to post my review due to the volume of positive 5 stars that Sport & Spinal has received and I'm sure that everyone's visit is different, however, mine was unfortunately not and I don't think I will be returning to Sport & Spin read more

I can't say enough about Colin. When I first went in to see him, I could barely dress myself because my back was seizing up so badly. In 3 sessions, he had me feeling normal again! While commuting on my bike 4 years ago, I was hit by a Range Rover. The driver ran a stop sign and didn't see me. My hips and my back haven't been the same since. I've seen several physios and chiros about it since, and most of them have helped somewhat for a little while ...but then weakness and pain would come back again. But it wasn't until I came in to see Colin that I felt a significant difference in my condition. The IMS treatment is challenging (I'm a little nervous around needles...) but so, so worth it. The treatment gets deep into where the pain and weakness is, and I can feel as soon as the treatment is done, that my back/hips/neck/shoulders (wherever I'm being treated) are revitalized. I physically feel an increase in vitality as soon as the treatment is done. For the last 4 years, if I were to ride more than 20k, or do any kind of exercise, I ran the risk of not being able to lift my legs, or put on pants, or walk for weeks! Now I am riding about 60km a week, and gradually working up those numbers. I'm getting stronger. I am so grateful for Colin and his practice. read more

This was the best and efficient treatment I have got. Colin was really professional and his treatment healed a lingering injury that I got 10 years ago. And it took only 4 days for me to see my body improving. I first pulled a muscle on my back while pitching in 2005. I decided to just let it heal over time. Then I got back to play baseball and softball competitively 4 years ago. Nothing was hurting but i knew my arm wasn't the same, but playable, so I thought I was probably just older and gained some weight. During one of game, I injured the same muscle again. After that, thing started to get really bad to some degree that it's affecting my work (I sit in front of computer a lot). This summer it became really frustrated that I couldn't run well nor throw well, and I felt fatigue on my shoulder in the afternoon at work or after an hour playing on the field. I tried many treatment, but nothing really worked until I went to Colin not knowing what to expect other than my captain told me he cured his rotation cuff problem. First I thought it was acupuncture but it wasnt. I immediately felt sore in my muscles. The next 4 days my arm felt like the time when I over worked myself back in highschool. When the sore went away, I did some practice and I could throw far with ease again. I felt 80% recovered after the first treatment. The whole body became so loose like I just got a new set of muscles, and there were a lot of activity going on in my muscles. I could often feel my muscle jumping and moving when I rest. I went back to Colin two more times before he cut me loose. Now I run well again, and I no longer feel the fatigue after long day at work. I really look forward to the next summer. I highly recommend Colin if you have lingering injury. It really was a bad idea thinking my body could heal on its own. If you feel something's not the same for a while, the chance is that it won't complete heal unless you let your body know about it, and this treatment is perfect for that. read more

Excellent work by Colin...I don't normally leave reviews, but the adjustments and dry needling were amazing after the initial discomfort! IMS is no joke if you are sensitive to pain, but I felt more fully in my body afterwards. I perceive it as a highly efficient way of mitigating tense muscles. I will go back for sure as these things that take months and years to build up are not undone at once. read more

I had to retire early from a very busy dental practice largely because of intractable back pain. After years of minimal relief with chiropractic, acupuncture, exercise, massage and some physiotherapy I was lucky enough to stumble upon Colin and his IMS. I never ever thought my long standing back problem could be fixed but in less than two years Colin was able to completely resolve my back problems. I was astonished and extremely happy. Needless to say it has greatly affected my life. It wasn't easy and it is painful but it was SO worthwhile. That was 5 years ago and I recently had to return to see Colin for a serious neck problem that neither my chiropractor nor my masseur could resolve. This time within 3 months he was able to alleviate the pain that was preventing me from sleeping at night. There were times between treatments that I was longing for the IMS treatments; that's how bad it had become. I highly recommend Colin. He has magic hands and he's a very affable engaging practitioner as well. read more

I injured my knee 5 years ago but without any serious damage like tearing or breaking anything. My knee has been fine since then but it started to swell and become painful when I started to train for my first half-marathon. It was bad enough where I couldn't run more than 10 km on my knee even though I was in great shape. I looked for treatment for over 5 years but had no results from physiotherapists until I met Colin. I found Colin through these very yelp reviews and every positive review about him is true. The guy just gets it. Within 5 minutes, he diagnosed the source of my pain and successfully treated me in a few sessions. He clearly has a wealth of experience and genuinely cares about his patients. I highly recommend him for any physiotherapy needs. read more

Colin is friendly, knowledgeable, and best of all, carries a big stick. Had a herniated disc that was repaired by surgery (microdiscectomy) 5 years ago so I knew the symptoms of back/leg pain caused by stressed nerves. I recently tweaked a different spot and had the same symptoms as disc herniation. IMS is not the easiest treatment to endure, but the effects are well worth the temporary discomfort. I went through 4 sessions, each one rewinding a month distress I was experiencing. read more

I had been struggling with my recovery from double FAI hip surgery for about a year before I met Colin. At the time I was extremely rigid about my PT regiment which mainly left my body feeling stiff and sore but the pain was not subsiding. A few days after my first session I could feel all the tension that had built up in my legs slowly dissolve and with that also went much of the anxiety that had been looming over me for the last year. It was quite remarkable. I will say that the treatment is not exactly pain free but no doubt worth every session. I can't recommend Sport & Spinal enough! read more

Before I went to Colin, was a bit skeptical about all these 5 stars. But when someone can fix issues that couldn't be fixed for years, as in my case, you're elated as a client so I now understand. For years I just couldn't get rid of this constant dull ache in my back. Medication, Physio, TENS muscle stimulator would provide only temporary relief. After 4 sessions with Colin I can say I'm now constantly pain free. I can't explain how liberating this is. Every morning I expect to wake up to pain and nothing. No neck pain and no dull pain in my back. All I can say is Colin for PM. read more

I've had a pinched nerve in my neck for quite some time and it was really getting in the way of my physical activity. I injured my back 4 years ago, sciatic issues, turned to leg and calf issues. This followed me around for too long. I learned to just cope with the pain and get the usual manipulation at the chiropractors once or twice a month. I re-aggravated it playing hockey 5 months ago and it was back with vengeance. I spent the next 2 months visiting chiropractors, massage therapists and acupuncturists trying to find an answer. After being fed up of pill popping and hemorrhaging money for things that were not working, my doctor recommended me to Sport and Spinal and said "Ask for Colin Miller". My doctor told me before I called for my first appointment," This is not something for the faint of heart, you have to be sure you want to do it". At this point I did not care anymore. Years of pain were so tiring, I would have done just about anything to make this go away. My first appointment I had no idea what to expect, I did some research. I checked out the website, and decided to give it a try. I was going in with an open mind, and I am so glad I did. Everyone there is very nice, and the common theme is getting people better, exactly what it should be. I have gone from being unable to put a pair of socks on, to being nearly pain free in 5 sessions. Along the way Colin has shown me exercises and stretches I can do to increase strength in the areas that have been affected for years. Since I walked in the door the first time, I have done nothing but get better. Plain and simple, you will see a common message reading reviews about these treatments; you are going to go through some pain to get better. After embracing the sessions as a release of all the pain I carried with me for years, they became less painful and more rewarding. I fully recommend this for anyone that is sick of being in pain. Similar review to jane's below in that no heads up was provided relating to the treatment and while colin's approach may work for others, it doesnt for everyone and patients should be more informed how the treatment would be like (spine cracking etc). Didnt have such a bad response like jane did but i did wanted to throw up after the treatment from the pain. Also some of colin's comments made me felt very uncomfortable and i never went back. read more

Kat has gotten me back up and running. I have a bad shoulder injury (too much typing on the computer at work) and seeing Kat has helped me be able to work without pain. She listens to me, is a great communicator, and tailors her advice and exercises for me to things she knows I enjoy. Her calm and professional demeanor are exactly what I needed, especially when I was at the height of my pain (I was being a bit mean since I was in so much pain). I am so happy to have found her! Also, the other staff there (i.e. receptionists, other physios) are always so lovely. I can't recommend this place enough!! read more

After sustaining an injury in the gym that plagued me with harsh back and neck pain for years and wasting money on dozens of physiotherapists, chiropractors, and massags therapists, I finally found Sport and Spinal. Colin's IMS treatments were very effective, and after only 2 brief (yet painful) sessions, most of the pain and soreness dissipated. Stop wasting money on useless practicians and try this place out; you will not be disappointed. read more

I suffered a low back disc injury at the beginning of April that was so bad that I could barely walk without pain. I started seeing a chiro as I wasn't sure where else to turn. I was asked to see him twice a week for a month and each time I left his office I left in more pain then when I came in. After 4 weeks of this, on what would be my final visit there, I walked in feeling pretty good and positive that things were healing up and after a 10 minute treatment from him I could barely take 4 steps out of his office before my back seized up on me. I was stuck. Literally and figuratively. After painfully making it home that day I decided that this was not the person that was going to help me heal. I was feeling pretty defeated, as this back issue had been bothering me on and off for 13 years. Upon arrival at work the next morning my boss noticed how much pain I was in and suggested his physio person that he used when he suffered from whiplash. His physio was Colin Miller at Sport + Spinal in Yaletown. He assured me that his experience with Colin was top notch and that his whiplash was healed within 3 sessions with Colin. I immediately googled Colin and Sport + Spinal and was pleased by the professionalism of their website as well as the credentials of all of the therapists working there. I made an appointment for the next day. Again I was so pleased when I arrived at the office to find it warm and inviting and a general sense of calm and positivity emanated from it. Some other reviewers have remarked on the music choices and I would have to agree that they always play the best music. :) My first impression of Colin was kindness and positivity. He was very honest and straightforward about his review of the state of my back but reinforced that with saying that I would only need to see him a few times and he would sort things out. I explained my apprehension given my experience with the chiro and he reassured me that that wouldn't happen here. My first session was powerful and as I gingerly moved myself off the treatment table, bracing myself for pain and immobility, I was beyond relieved to have a full range of motion with ZERO pain! It's important to remember to do the exercises that Colin gives you as that is part of the healing process. I've been back for a subsequent visit and have one more upcoming. Each time I feel better and better and more and more confident that my body is healing. Thank you Colin! And thank you to Tara at reception for always being so pleasant! read more

I wish I could give TEN stars. I came to Sport and Spinal back in December 2010. For years I had been struggling with pain in the right side of my lower back, and in the months proceeding my visit the pain had spread to my knees, hips and shoulder. To give a simple explanation, nearly every part of my body was in constant pain. I could not sleep, I could not walk, I could not function at the levels that we all take for granted on a daily basis. I had seen a specialist in physical rehabilitation, and he had given the diagnosis that some of my tendons were damaged. He recommended a treatment called "prolotherapy", which is both expensive and not covered by MSP. Unfortunately, in the three months I received the treatment (July-Sept 2010) my condition was only getting worse. Then, I saw an acupuncturist downtown. My body actually did respond fairly well to his treatment, however, things were still going downhill (some of the pain lessened, but it continued to spread to new places). Finally, around Christmas, I dropped my family doctor and found a new one. She recommended that I see Colin Miller at Sport and Spinal. I consider this moment a turning point in my life. In the last nine months Colin and I have worked together on relieving my body of the tension and pain that had literally taken over. The treatment first completely relieved the areas that had just recently began to bother me. Then, with time, some of the older injured areas started to become pain free. It was as if the illness that had effected my body was being put back in a box, and was following the same pattern that it had emerged. Today I am happy to say that the only discomfort that remains is my left hip (very minor) and my right hip (somewhat irritated). I continue to see Colin regularly, and progress is still being made. However, after ~30 months of chronic pain my back is pretty much free of discomfort. Also, my knees no longer feel like they are going to explode if I stand in place for any amount of time. For this I have to thank Colin Miller and the kind people at Sport and Spinal. Fair warning, the IMS treatment can be quite painful. It all depends on how badly you want to be well. Ask yourself If you're willing to embark on the journey, and if the answer is yes, Sport and Spinal is the place to do it.. read more
If you don't like the idea of popping pills to control your pain, you may want to try visiting Sport + Spinal Physical Therapy in Yaletown. I have never gone to a family doctor, chiropractor, nor a physiotherapist to get my body checked up. So you can imagine how privileged I felt when I had the opportunity to meet Sharon for a check up. I also thought it was vital to do this since I am now in my early twenties. The space of Sport + Spinal is rather small, but does not lack character. Their beautiful Native Indian art is captivating and sets the atmosphere. The choice of music they play coordinates with the overall feel of the place. I also felt instantly relieved as I noticed that Sport + Spinal does not look like a clinic! (with steel beds, chairs and such) It's very reassuring to have Sharon work on me not only because has a great athletic physique but because of her professionalism and great bedside manners. (not to mention her 15 YEARS EXPERIENCE!). She assessed me for about 45 minutes, asking me to do certain stretches (touching my toes, stretching my neck, etc) to test my posture and such. She also felt my spine and hips to make sure everything looked place and aligned. The stretches she helped me do definitely woke up my sleepy body, which was a bonus. I told her exactly what issues I was having and she gave a very soothing massage on my knots which felt awesome. Mind you, she has STRONG hands so for the first time I felt like it was a proper massage. The other massage "therapists" I have gone are good, but they can't hold a candle to Sharon. I can't describe exactly what she did but she realigned and adjusted me to make me feel fantastic. Folks, if you feel uncomfortable with the idea of visiting a physio, I cannot recommend Sharon enough. She is very patient, HONEST, non-exaggerated with your diagnosis, and professional so she will put you at ease. She can also give you advice on preventative care so you'll benefit even if you don't have major problems to begin with. After a session with her I felt TREMENDOUS HEALING and increased energy. I now feel like my yoga sessions will be enhanced. If you are near or in Yaletown, you cannot miss out on Sport +Spinal. read more

I suffered a back injury July 2014 and saw a chiropractor, it wasn't determined exactly what caused it but I was told overtraining in preparation for Tough Mudder. I was ordered off exercise and back pain started to go away. I was approved exercise in Jan 2015 (to ease into it), something tweaked in my back in Apr which was a lot worse than the previous year. I couldn't walk without hunching over, could not sit down at work (had to get stand up desk), it hurt to cough and sneeze, I got sciatica in my left leg, and would have sharp shooting pains throughout my lower back and leg several times a day. I got x-ray, CT scan, saw several Doctor's and was put on wait list to see a spinal surgeon who said MRI required to see if I need surgery. In July, a coworker suggested I see Colin Miller at Sport and Spinal (2 other coworkers gave great reviews as well), she warned me the IMS would be extremely painful, and it was. Colin was very helpful from the moment I arrived. I had several questions that Doctor's did not have time to answer, but he went over everything with me and was confident I wouldn't need surgery. After 3 months my pain had not improved so I was expecting to have to get surgery but couldn't afford taking the time off work and was dreading the aftercare/recovery. I saw Colin weekly and he was very encouraging, and didn't mind as I swore/yelled or cried from the pain. Gradually it was reduced to every 2 weeks, then every 3 weeks. In Oct I noticed a huge improvement. I was able to sit down at work and the constant daily pain is gone (it's still there but very minor). He approved me doing moderate level exercise and said to focus on losing weight I gained during the injury and to build up core strength. I had MRI and follow up appointment with the back surgeon and decided not to do the surgery. I have noticed huge improvements thanks to Colin. The reception staff there is very friendly as well. It has not been an easy process, but I'm so happy with the results and would recommend Sport & Spinal to anyone working through an injury. read more

If you've endured years of chronic muscle tightness, stiffness or joint related issues, you owe it to yourself to book an appointment with Colin Miller. Like David (below), a friend recommended I try IMS treatments with Colin. Both he and his wife were seeing Colin and raved about the long term change they'd experienced (okay, I was also warned to expect some pain along the way!). I was heading to Africa in 2 months with my daughter and was desperate to get my knee working (I'd been seeing a physio, chiropractor (ART), and trigger point/shiatsu massage practitioners for 10 months already. It was costing a fortune and I wasn't making much headway). Anyway ... I took the plunge, and boy am I glad I did! I was able to drop all the others and just focus on IMS. In a matter of weeks, my knee was WAY better ... which created another dilemma ... why stop with my knee?? For close to 20 years, I'd experienced chronic tight, stiff and aching muscles throughout my body with recurrent joint pain and "injuries" that weren't necessarily the result of any trauma. Colin set to work like Edward Scissor-Hands with pins ... jaw, neck, shoulders, back, hip, quads, hamstrings, calves ... even my foot and thumb! He adjusts my back better than any chiropractor ever has (even put the trigger point massage guy to shame with my psoas muscle one day)! And bit by bit, this crazy syndrome of a body is starting to come back to life! Yippee! I'm getting closer to the end of my treatments now and am delighted to feel so good. I will continue with pilates (both Michele and Romney are great!) to keep my low back and those weaker/tighter muscles moving. And I will revisit Colin from time to time if I need it as I see this as an investment in a healthy, active retirement. I want to be able to move and play and feel good as I age. Try to put a price on that!!! read more

I've had issues with a massive knotted muscle under my scapula for over 5 years. I have never had excruciating pain but this issue has always been very uncomfortable and has become a chronic issue. I have tried everything from chiropractic work to massage therapy to traditional Chinese medicine to personal training to help strength that area of my body-I have been looking for anything to help solve the issue not hide the discomfort. The muscles have just been knotted up for so many years that nothing seemed to do anything other than provide temporary relief. My boyfriend had recently hurt his IT band and a friend recommended he see Colin Miller at Sport+Spinal. After his first visit there, he said "You definitely need to go see Colin-I'm pretty sure he's the one to help you fix your shoulder!". I scheduled an appointment for the next week and did some online research on Intramuscular Stimulation-the method of healing that Colin Miller is very passionate about. I was pretty nervous for my first session since I didn't know what to expect, but Colin was very friendly and informative and I quickly felt at ease in his care. After that first session, my shoulder felt amazing and I knew I was on the right path to healing. Intramuscular Stimulation is a very unique and interesting procedure and it most likely will be painful the first few times- but as Colin likes to say, "If you feel it, then you needed it". I've been back several times and each time the IMS procedure is easier and easier and I know it's helping me get that much closer to being free of that discomfort I've had for so many years. I'm very happy I made the decision to check out Sport+Spinal and am finally feeling like I will finally be free of the knot that's been part of me for so long! Oh yeah-they play great music there too! read more

After 1 year of weekly treatments with another local physiotherapist, and after several high recommendations to see Colin, I decided it was time for a fresh eyes approach in my recovery and booked an appointment to see him. Colin from Sport and Spinal is a true master of therapy. In my 14 years of receiving physical treatment for my back I can say he is 1 of the 5 healers to treat my body. His intuition in finding the areas that need attention with his IMS technique is second to none. My muscle tension before Colin's first treatment was still so restrictive and at times my movement was very limited. On completion of my first session with Colin, I lay on the table and was amazed that he had released all my body tension which had been in spasm since my severe disc herniation injury (2+ years at this time). I left his clinic with the biggest smile on my face and was on a natural high for the remainder of the day. After 2 intensive years of rehab that had plateaued for quite sometime, thanks to Colin I was gradually getting my life back, week by week. Since then I have been shouting his name from the rooftops! I have finally found my winning combination - Colin Miller's IMS treatments, Christophe Lacour's Osteopathy, in conjunction with high dose Vitamin C therapy for healing of the disc. Now after 12 months of regular treatment with Colin, I recently returned home to Australia to visit with family and friends. Colin has not only given me back my mobility but has given me much more than that, he has given me my life back! This summer I am returning to rock climbing..... Colin Miller has my vote! I chose this place after hours of searching everything in town and it seemed like the best one so I went with it. I waited 5 weeks for my app and expected good things but the first session I had was with Colin and he was 15min late and the session ended 45min later with him only being there for only 15min of it. The next session I had was with Tony for a vestibular issue and he was also 15min late and the session ended 20min later and he did basic tests my neurologist had already done and gave me exercises that I could find on YT for free. Based on the info on their website, I was under the impression they had advanced equipment and tests to figure out the details of my vestibular issue but they had no such thing. They advertise as the session being 1 hour but they always show up late and the session is always shorter but they charge full price anyway. Any other place I go to whether it's a massage or chiropractor, they always see me for the amount of time they advertised. Also, when I called a couple of weeks later to ask the receptionist Carrie about coverage since I'm on disability for my issue, she raised her voice at me thinking I was someone else she had talked to in person and then tried to backtrack when I corrected her that this was my first time calling and that other person wasn't me. Overall, very disappointed with this place even if I am in the minority but I think what they have to offer and the amount of time they see you for isn't worth it. However, I still think everyone should do their own research as I'm sure this place will be helpful to others, it just wasn't for me. read more

After suffering a work-related injury over three years ago I've been dealing with chronic mid-back pain and acute back spasms ever since. It's been a difficult journey and I've seen pretty much every practitioner on the market, including massage therapists, physios, chiropractors, rheumatologists, back specialists, rolfers, acupuncturists and more... I've had very little success and have spent well over $10,000 on treatments and medications... and I'm only 29-years-old! My doctor at UBC Sports Medicine suggested Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) because his other patients with severe myofascial pain had had success with it. Luckily, I happened upon Sport and Spinal (recommended by a personal trainer friend). Colin is a superstar practitioner whose treatment style is unlike anyone's I've ever encountered. He's extremely attentive and thorough and is one of those rare practitioners that is naturally gifted at his profession. I'm still dealing with chronic pain, but for the first time in three years I feel like I'm on the way to recovery. Colin has also helped me with the emotional side of chronic pain -- he's connected me to meditation practice, which has been a huge help in dealing with the trauma and stress of my ongoing injury. If you have chronic pain I seriously suggest you contact this clinic -- it is a hidden gem. Seriously -- do not wait any longer -- these people will help!!!! Thank you Colin for your amazing treatment and for helping me to believe that I can get better. read more

This is like no other therapy I've ever experienced. Other therapies like massage and chiro might have helped my chronic neck/shoulder issues for a short time (usually for the rest of the day, and sometimes into the next day), but nothing had the staying power I was so desperately searching for. I had resigned myself to living with the muscle tension, pain and limited mobility for the rest of my days. When Colin Miller told me at my first appointment that he could help, I believe I rolled my eyes, said a cursory thank you and let him do his thing. The therapy was an uncomfortable experience--even painful at times--but the results have been nothing short of amazing. I've been in to see Colin about 4 times now--my times of being pain-free keep extending for longer and longer periods of time between visits. How I wish I would have found this practitioner/clinic sooner! If you find yourself in a similar situation--given in to living with pain every day, convinced there is nothing out there to help you, decided that older bodies simply do not heal. . .do yourself a favour and call Colin Miller to set up an appointment. You can thank me later ;) read more

Can't speak highly enough about my IMS treatment with Colin. I've had IMS treatment with 2 other physios and while they were good, Colin was the best. He bases his intensity of treatment on how much the patient can handle. My first treatment, three years ago was for a spasming lower back muscle, which was sorted out in a few treatments. I haven't had a problem since. This time around it was sore mid-back and neck. Although IMS is very uncomfortable, Colin follows the treatment with electrical muscle stimulation under a heating blanket. We joked about it being a all inclusive appointment with painful treatment followed by relaxation spa treatment. For tight knots and spasming muscles, I feel this is an essential part of the treatment for full recovery. Now strengthening and stretching are required to complete the recovery. read more

I was visiting Vancouver for a 4 month work assignment and about a week before I arrived my hip and back had become so bad that I could only walk about 50 meters before having to stop and wait for the pain to subside. I visited Jason Lee at Sport and Spinal on a recommendation from a friend and he literally gave me back my life. He conducted a thorough analysis of the cause of my problem and using manipulation, exercise and dry needling (IMS), he set me on course for complete recovery. I was skiing within 4 weeks and able to enjoy some of the terrific hikes and climbs in the Vancouver area within six weeks. At this point I am headed home and feel better than I have in several years. Thank you Jason Mark Shaughnessy Brooksville, Maine USA read more

Six weeks ago I inured my back pulling up tree roots in my back yard. I had an inflamed nerve that sent sciatic nerve pain right down my leg. I was planning a cycling trip in Portugal at the end of May and was ready to cancel because I was unable to walk, let alone ride. I went a saw Colin Miller at the Sport and Spinal Physical Therapy Office and after one treatment I was walking. After two treatments I was doing yoga and pilates. After the 3rd treatment, I was on my bike again and climbing hills. So, I guess I'm going on my cycling trip thanks to Colin. His IMS treatments are thorough and effective. I am so happy with the results. read more

I was diagnosed with a frozen shoulder in December and sent to a physio who gave me a couple of exercises to do every day and was told it would probably take at least one year or two to heal. As I am an avid golfer I was very discouraged by the prognosis and the exercises were not helping. I went to see Colin every week starting in February and am now back on the golf course! Though the treatments were painful and I hated them the sleepless nights from pain I was experiencing came to an end and I was able to move my arm more freely. Colin is masterful with his IMS technique and I would certainly recommend him to anyone! Thanks Colin! read more

Sport and Spinal offers a unique and different approach to treating short to life long injuries. Like so many of their patients, I have been struggling with chronic injury, tendonitis in my ankles, and they have been able to get me started to find the root cause and start healing for the first time in 5 years. I'v only been a few times and am still on my way to recovery, but I've gone to so many doctors and tried so many ways to treat my tendonitis over the years, and they are the first to really have a significant impact. If you are looking to treat your chronic pain or injuries, please give them a call! It's worth your time. read more

I saw Tony Macri at the Sport + Spinal clinic in Yaletown as I was searching for a physiotherapist with experience and FCAMPT training to address an ongoing issue. I have seen him 3 times and so far he has been able to assess, explain the issue, and treat it very efficiently. It allowed me to not have issues in my work at the same time as giving me exercises and techniques which will help me prevent the issues going further. I plan to continue to see him to continue to improve things as well as deal with other issues I am having. I do not hesitate to recommend Tony to anyone looking for a great physiotherapist. read more

After suffering from plantar fasciitis for over 4 months I finally went to see Colin miller at sport and spinal and after one IMS treatment I felt amazing improvement in my foot and over all flexibility. I will admit the IMS treatment is very painful at times and I certainly want to punch Colin at moments but the temporary pain is worth it. I I have had two treatments now and my has improved greatly, I have been sleeping better, I have more energy, and feel great. Colin and all the staff at Sport and Spinal are great and if you are suffering from muscle stiffness, or plantar fasciitis go see them. read more

I have been dealing with patello-femural syndrome for about 6 years now and from working with Katrina Sovio, I have been able to manage my injury while remaining very active. Thanks to Kat, I can continue to teach my spin class, climb the Grouse Grind, circuit train and be active leisurely. My treatments include IMS and exercises to work on my muscle imbalance. I have not had this kind of succes working with other Physiotherapists and highly recommend Kat's treatments for those serious and committed to managing a knee injury and seeing positive results. read more

4 sessions of IMS treatment from Colin has corrected my chronic hip/low back pain - allowing me to run and go up stairs pain free (for the first time in 5 years). Can't say thank you enough for the treatment I received. After multiple attempts at significant cost on physio/chiro/massage this was the treatment I needed. Colin was friendly and helpful throughout my 4 treatments - even if he wasn't I would give 5 stars because he fixed my back! read more
